Hundleys performance today IMO:

+ Good pocket presence. Didn’t look rattled.

+ Stepped up well and made throws under pressure.

+ Evaded pressure well and showed off his running ability.

+ Protected the ball well and didn’t force throws or make bad decisions.

+ Accuracy and ball placement looked good IMO.

+ Passing fundamentals looked good, great footwork and mechanics.

+ Made some heady plays.

- Timing was off on deep throws.

- Progressions were slow and was late on his reads.

- Struggled with protection calls.

- Missed opportunities for audibles although perhaps MM wasn’t allowing that.

Overall I don’t think he embarrassed himself, but we need more. I don’t think the issues with the intermediate and deep throws are 100% on him. Hundley missed some opportunities, but McCarthy needed to give him better opportunities and the receivers needed to win 1 on 1’s more often. He looked like a young QB in his first start, the game will start slowing down for him and he will be able to go through his progressions and make his reads faster.

Grade: C+

I wish I watched the game you did.

He dumped the ball pretty fine, but if isolating to downhill throws, there wasn't a lot there to be encouraged about.

Gravedigger, how did you miss his late INT in your assessment?  I mean...what kind of throw was that?  A timing issue?

It was just a lousy throw.

It was a bad throw, I didn’t say all of his throws were perfect. It was one of only a couple bad decisions I think he made all day. I think he was trying to do too much. First real 2 minute drill in a regular season game, he will learn from it. All QBs make lousy throws, that pick 6 Rodgers has against Cincy was one of the worst decisions and throws I think Rodgers has had in his time in GB. It’s why completion % above 60% is generally pretty good, no one is perfect.

No. He had the ball to end the game vs MIN the week before. Sure he got it with 3:20 to go, but still that is 2-minute mode.

Ah yes you are correct. Point still stands though, he will learn. Two minute drill is tough, defense is teeing off at the line and DBs are keeping everything in front. It was a bad throw, but it's not a symptom of  a larger issue.

3rd and a football, after the Randall INT. Initially didn't like the call, why not run it there?

Hundley is late with the throw to Adams. Or maybe early? Adams never got to the LOS, and there appeared to be space further into the slant.

My gawd he threw early way too often. Hurried when there was not pressure (from what I saw), didn't wait until the WR hit his break.

Big challenge for McCarthy going forward.

It seemed like McCarthy more or less gave Hundley the Aaron Rodgers gameplan. In retrospect that was a mistake. Yes he's been here for 3 years, yes he knows the offense, but Rodgers is a 10 year vet running a complex offense. McCarthy should have treated him more like it was his first start rather than force him to make the hard throws. McCarthy didn't do much to get him in a rhythm or get his confidence up, that's a failure. I think McCarthy acknowledged as much after the game saying he was disappointed in himself.  He needs to drive a minivan for a while before he gets the keys to the Ferrari.

Are you saying poor outcomes are potentially a coaches fault?

What if it happens again next week?

What if it happens for 6 years?

I hope you get over your Dom Capers obsession some day and talk about something else.

Potentially the worst play call MM has ever ever made.

Unless Hundley  checked to an audible thinking he could get a big gain if Adams broke free with everybody stacked at the line.

I hope we win a superbowl season soon where the defense doesn't **** itself.

I think with Dom fired, there is a chance we both win

I hope McCarthy fires Capers just so this forum never talks about Dom fukking Capers ever again. Unfortunately the next DC will become the next obsession the first time our D has a bad game.

On the other hand, from Silverstein regarding Jones first TD run:  "After runs of 3 and 6 yards, he followed McCray into the hole on a power play that Hundley switched to at the line of scrimmage based on the Saints’ alignment and ran 46 yards for a touchdown. "

The photos above show he threw early at that point. If he waits a split second longer, that DB gets scraped off on the "pick" by Cobb. Or he has to throw it even earlier and let Adams stretch for it before the DB can react. Then again, Adams might have run that a little shallow and if he had stepped more forward, he gets the ball with Cobb in front blocking for him. So many variables...

Disagree.  I think some posters will blindly defend the new coordinator for 6, maybe 7 years

I’d rather defend people involved with my favorite team than constantly b*tch about them.

I’ve said for many years that I won’t be sad to see Dom go, I just don’t think that solves the problem though. There are still personnel issues. Over the last two offseasons I have advocated for bringing in Lovie Smith, who is a proven DC. There’s no elite Safety, which is something every really good D has...we have 4 SS’s and no ballhawk and it shows. There’s no shut down corner which is something every really good D has. There’s no difference maker at ILB next to Martinez, who is more of a grinder than a difference maker. Our depth is lacking everywhere except DL. So everyone b*tches about Capers with no acknowledgement that there’s some real personnel issues going on...until someone makes a bad play and then that player sucks. Well how can you expect the DC to field anything when sucky players are out there? It’s sad that maaaybe 2 of our 10 best players are on D. The next DC will deal with the same execution issues and mismatch talent. Ed Donnatel to Bob Slowik to Bob Sanders, three different DCs and the same problem existed. So forgive me for not blindly blaming the DC for every single stupid issue and recognizing there is more the problem than just the DC. You give ANY DC some real talent and he will field a championship defense, even Dom Capers. Holding on to this misguided belief that the talent is there and a simple DC change will bring the next Lombardi is ridiculous. That will only happen if you bring in Bill Belichek or maybe Mike Zimmer, unfortunately both are unavailable. Thompson HAS to start bringing in talent, doesn’t matter how. I like Thompson and I believe in draft/develop, but he’s missed on too many high picks lately. So yeah bring in whatever DC you want, dig up Fritz Shurmur’s corpse and prop it up in the booth, but upgrade the godd*mn talent.

To be an effective DC, many skills are needed:

1) Choose a system of play that your players can both physically & mentally execute.

2) Motivate maximum effort from your players

3) Develop game plans to combat specific opponents offenses

4) Call the defenses in game time.

5) Make sure that position coaches are teaching proper fundamentals & holding players accountable

If these criteria are met, the defense's "whole" should be greater than it's "parts". Of course when evaluating, it is always the "chicken & the egg" , would the players play better under a different DC or would the system be much better with different players? My question with Capers has always been; "does the scheme's complexity result in player's having to think too much, which causes them to play slow & miss assignments"

Whole I agree he was missing Burnett & not having a Sam Shields shutdown corner doesn't help....

What about the "mis-communication issues" we keep hearing about for the last 6 years? What about 10 guys on the field? Not once but TWICE in the same ****ing game!!

I've had enough of this ****. If you remember Charles Woodson complained about the defense just before he was ushered out of Green bay. Heaven forbid someone of Woodsons caliber challenge the Wizard.

Maybe a new DC doesn't solve 100% of the defense issues. But I guarantee it will solve some of them.

I wish I could lead a protest where nobody shows up at Lambeau until Dom is gone. Money talks & the fans have all the power yet few realize it .

does the scheme's complexity result in player's having to think too much, which causes them to play slow & miss assignments"

THIS! All of us have been athletes playing game know that when you're thinkin' you're stinkin'. Have to just read and react. Dom's system seems to make that impossible if you're not Charles Woodson.

Going into this game on MNF:

1.) The Packers have had an even longer time to prepare for the Lions then a normal bye week because they play on Monday Night.

2.) Brett Hundley stayed in town to work with coaches and MM and him have had an extensive amount of time to prepare Hundley for this game and the second half of the season.

3.) Hundley should have the preferred starting OL the team envisioned when the season began on Monday.

4.) The WR's are healthy and aside from Bennett who can't catch much of anything, his TE's are also healthy.

5.) GB has perhaps the best running game in Aaron Jones since an in shape and less Phat Eddie

6.) Per MM this morning, Hundley has spent an "extensive" amount of time at 1265 and QB Coach Alex Van Pelt is "doing an outstanding job" preparing him.

7.) The Lions are the 25th ranked defense in scoring coming into Lambeau.

8.) Aaron Rodgers will be on the sideline and in Brett's ear all game.

If #7 does not play just better, but SIGNIFICANTLY better on Monday night, at home, then our QB Guru HC has a problem. A big one.

Considering the talent around him on offense plus a real running game, there is no reason the Packers shouldn't be able to run their core offense.

“QB Coach Alex Van Pelt is "doing an outstanding job" preparing him“

Packers had their best week of practice prior to Saints game according to MM.

Less talking. More winning.

I don’t doubt Mikes ability to coach QBs. He’s good at it. Concern is whether or not he’s got a staff and the ability to rebuild an offense predicated on all the parts working together as opposed to a reliance on Rodgers making it go.

So he needs to throw 6 TD's with 500 yards passing and have 4 TD's running.

He needs to be significantly better then 12 for 25, an average of 3.5 yards per pass, 87 yards, 1 INT, sacked 8 times, and a QB rating of 39.9

Let's be real. Those are the kind of numbers I would have expected Randall Cobb to have as an emergency QB. Not a guy groomed 3 years in MM's system.

Not just that....he had those numbers with a rushing game that gained exactly 181 yards.

Any QB worth his salt will kill a defense with those rushing stats. PA pass like a M****** F*****
