I would go Offense if I were TT.  Get a game breaker tight end, Jace Amaro or Ebron from NC.  Seems to me our best defense is going to be a great offense.  These guys will help the play action pass/running game and the wide outs too.  AR will be able to take whats given without being pounded because this powerful offense will slow pass rushes.  Plenty of time later in the draft for the D.  I'd take one of the tight ends even if Finley returns.  Turn this offense into the Patriots O. of two - three years ago.

This morning I heard Dallas freed up $17 million in cap space by restructuring contracts for Romo, Scandrick, and Sean Lee. They're only $1 million over the cap now! Great work Jerry!

Romo is recovering from back surgery and his 2015 cap hit is $25 million. If they cut Ware they should have enough to pay their 2014 draft picks.

Great time to be a Cowboy fan.

Dez Southward says his low time in the 40 was 4.31 and the high was 4.39, so they split the difference and he was given an official 4.35.

Previous three posts?  Nothing there are far as an answer to my question.  With an unbiased opinion, how good is the guy?  Strengths and weaknesses?  Obviously, speed is a strength.   Is he a good tackler?  Good cover guy when needed?

covered well, forgot to turn his head around until the receiver caught the ball.

Will be a late pick because of measurables, but I'm not sure you can teach ball awareness.

did they time how quickly he could turn his head around to find the ball?

This could be an issue in his imminent porn career too. It's like that age old porn adage, ear shots for show & facials for dough.

McShart says we take Ebron from UNC...I could live with that.

Players he projects after us who we might be interested in...

CB Bradley Roby

CB O'Dell Beckham

DT Ra'Shede Hageman

DT Louis Nix

DE Kony Ealy

Southward has terrible instincts and ball skills over the top.  I don't care how fast he runs.  He was easily the most disappointing player on the Badgers D this year.

As a traditional strong safety he might be worth a look but safeties in this day and age have to be able to cover and he can't do it

I knew when this was originally posted it was going to be like throwing chum-legs in the water to be feverishly humped upon.

The Green Bay Packers are usually bystanders while other teams throw around millions in free agency. That's about to change.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport said Wednesday on "NFL Total Access" that the Packers plan to take advantage of their nearly $30 million in cap space and acquire outside free agents, according to sources informed of the team's thinking.

Rapoport reported on NFL Network that the Packers could sign as many as five players, which would be the most for the team since 2006.

No real different thoughts than what I see currently from most mock drafts and other Packer fans.  Assuming Thompson stays at 21 in the first round, I think it looks like this:

Our biggest needs -- in terms of adding an immediate starter -- remain ILB and S on defense, TE on offense.  If I had to rank them, based on who's on our roster, it would be ILB, S and TE.  With the talent we have at WR, I think a combo at TE of Quarless and Bostick (backed by Taylor and Stoneburner) can give us enough quality receivers for Rodgers to throw to this coming year.  Maybe add a TE in the 3rd or so.  At S, I'm confident they'll move Hyde there, who I think will give us good play next to Burnett.  But need more there, especially since I'm not sure what we have in either Richardson or Banjo.  So ideally a 2nd round S would fit here.  And ideally our first pick would be an ILB, since I think neither Hawk or Jones is as good an ILB as Hyde is a S.  ILB just a huge weakness on this team.

CJ Mosely would therefore be, I think, a perfect pick, and many mocks currently have him falling to us.  He's the only ILB anyone is predicting while go in the 1st.  So if he's there, I think that would be our best pick.  My guess right now is he'll be gone, and Thompson won't trade up to get him.  Mack, Barr OLBs who'll be long gone.  Shazier intriguing, but really an OLB as well, likely too small (6-1, 237) for ILB.  Lawrence (6-3, 251) touted as potential late 1st round pick, would offer great size for ILB, but not sure anyone thinks he could make conversion from playing DL in college.

If Mosely is gone, then Dix or Pryor at S look like good targets.  I'm especially high on Dix as a fit for us, but guessing he too will be gone.  I'd be OK with Pryor (wish he were a bit bigger, only 5-11), but not sure he'll be there either.

Ebron only TE I think we'd have to think hard about passing up at 21, but I think he'll be long gone.  Don't see us considering guys like Amaro, Niklas at 21.

If all 4 gone (Mosely, Dix, Pryor, Ebron), I would look hard at DL -- Hageman, Nix, possibly Tuitt.  I'm guessing Raji plays well at NT this year and we resign him to a longer-term deal.  So we pass on NT Nix -- who looks like a Raji-clone.  Or Thompson possibly grabs Nix, says goodbye to Raji next year.  Peppers may only have a year left in him.  I think Hageman -- all 6-6, 311 of him -- could be excellent value.  Learn behind Peppers, get him in the rotation, have him and Datone Jones as your 3-4 DE's for years to come.  I like what I read about Hageman a bit more than Tuitt, although both seem similar, both have that hot-and-cold motor/questionable production/great physical potential tags.  By the way, Jernigan (6-2, 298) likely long gone, but too small for a 3-4 anyway.

So my current targets are Mosely at ILB, Dix and Pryor at S, Ebron at TE, Hageman at DE, in that order.

Your thoughts?  Any players you like at 21 I missed?

There's plenty of decent TEs, so I don't know that I'd make that a priority in the first round. Ebron, Amaro, Seferian-Jenkins, Fiedorowicz, Niklas....they all look like pretty good prospects.  And with AR and the rest of the offense, any one of them could excel.

Obviously it all depends on who's available at 21 and where TT had them projected.  If a player he graded highly falls to 21, it won't really matter the position.

Multiple reasons...

  1. Runs great routes
  2. Has excellent hands
  3. Blazing speed that you cannot teach
  4. TT knows WR's & has proven it multiple times
  5. Most every fan pretty much wants defense because they think we "need" it
  6. We need another WR (loss of Jones)
  7. He fits exactly what we do in Green Bay (Run after the catch or YAC)

I believe he will be the best, highest rated player available at #21. Just my 45 day in advance slightly educated guess.

I realize it's only 1 play but look at this video. He's pretty much Randall Cobb. The 2 of them together could really spread the field

9. It always takes an extra year before a WR settles into our offense.  Cobb is a FA in a year.  Just in case.

10.  Ted might be able to trade back with Cleveland at #26 and still get his guy.
