Rip is a great example of why the draft is such a crapshoot. Here's his pre-draft conclusion:

"Old-school blocking back who will have a hit or two each game that wows the crowd and gets his teammates fired up. He often charges in head-first and with a lowered head, so his success rate can vary greatly from game to game. Lack of pass-catching background hurts his chances."

Lack of opportunities in college doesn't necessarily mean he can't do it. I don't think he ran the ball once at Oklahoma, he runs it fine in GB though. I think people assume that college coaches all know what they're doing and had a good reason for not using a player a certain way. That would be false.

The way NFL & college defenses play vary greatly. Rip started as the lone RB mainly because they were afraid Monty could not handle blitzers . When Lions played Nickel that left a DB & a light LBer (Levy) forced to tackle Rip, big advantage for us there. Not sure which LBer Giants take out in their Nickel, but 2 of their 3 starters are in the 240-250 pound range. I doubt we will see Rip carry the ball as much vs. them Sunday.

Prescott has earned the third-best QB rating in the league from a clean pocket, at 118.0, while he has ranked just ninth under pressure at 75.8. That was on display in the teams’ first meeting, when Green Bay was able to generate pressure on just six of 29 dropbacks and Prescott lit the Packers up when given time to throw.

But on the season, the Packers ranked seventh in pass-rush grades and fifth in run defense. There are concerns in the secondary, but this is far from a lopsided battle in the trenches. If they can slow down the Cowboys’ running game and get to the rookie quarterback with their pass rush, it could be enough to keep the game in reach for the Packers’ offense.

As far as running the table, I do think the team circled the wagons to try and get back into playoff contention and then win the division.   Once in, I do believe they thought they could get to the Super Bowl based on how they were playing...with confidence.   At the pro level, I'm sure you can't underestimate the lockerroom confidence; the willing to play hard and hurt for your teammates knowing that this might be THE season to win another Super Bowl.  Of course, the memories of the 2010 season still linger...so they  know believing in yourself does go a long way to success.
