April 2, 1976 – The Packers trade quarterback John Hadl, cornerback Ken Ellis and two undisclosed draft choices to the Houston Oilers for quarterback Lynn Dickey. Dickey, a backup to Dan Pastorini for five years after being selected 56th overall (third round) in the 1971 draft, is expected to end Green Bay’s search for a reliable passer that began with the retirement of Bart Starr in the summer of 1972. “No, I don’t feel any pressure on me because of the price,” Dickey says. “There’s always pressure, but if you don’t like that, you’re in the wrong business.”

"You can sack our Pack, but you'll never lick our Dickey"
The other was a wide receiver who showed so little promise that the Oilers dumped him on the expansion Seahawks during training camp.
That wide receiver's name....was Steve Largent. And now you know the rest of the story.

haha. My favorite was one from my alma mater. We had recently fired football coach Mike O'Cain and hired a basketball coach Herb Sendek.
It read "You can have Mike O'Cain but you can have our Herb!"
(Mike OCain = my cocaine)

Ted Thompson was on that same Oilers team?
indeed, from '75 to '84
and...in a 1981 game against the New York Jets, Thompson successfully converted four extra-point attempts as the emergency kicker
On this date in 2000, #Packers GM Ron Wolf traded CB Fred Vinson and a 6th round pick to Seattle for @AhmanGreen30 and a 5th round pick.

Great thread too, H5!
Perhaps you should make this a daily posting?

"It sounds silly to keep repeating myself, but we really and truly wanted to take the best football player on the board," Thompson said. "And we felt like (Rodgers) was the best football player on the board.
"We look at the draft as a long-term view, but we would like some help initially, yeah. The guys we picked today, they're good football players. And I'd expect all those guys to help us this season."
"We stuck with the board today. We picked the best player on the board. We literally took the highest-rated player on the board today -- every time."
Signing his rookie deal.

On 7/24/1961, Vince Lombardi announced that all Packers season tickets were gone. The stadium has been sold out ever since.
One of the greatest streaks ever, especially when you consider the teams of the '80s.
On this date, in 1970, Vince Lombardi died.
I must've missed this thread the first time around, but Lynn Dickey is one of my all-time favorite players. Thought he was very underrated, and played on some bad teams with bad lines.
That was OUTSTANDING H 5. Thanks very much.
Speaking of Dickey... and Kickers.
30 years ago today, Lynn Dickey was 27-31 for 333 yards and 5 TDs, but the Packers needed a 42-yard Jan Stenerud FG to beat Oilers 41-38 in OT.
lots of derp from that chickenboy character
I believe Dickey got knocked out of the game at end on that concrete Astrodome surface and Dave Whitehurst actually led them to winning field goal.
That's when backup LB for the Oilers "Terrible" Ted Thompson first starting hating the Packers, he would get his revenge 30 years later.
...or maybe he fell in love with the Pack's lack of a running game.

Yup, and my Packers' "fact a day" calendar told me it was the first of five OT games that year. At the time, this set an NFL record, with the Panthers tying it in 2003. Although the Packers went 2-3 in their games and the Panthers went 4-1 in theirs. games.
On this day in 1965, Green Bay's City Stadium was renamed Lambeau Field to honor the late Curly Lambeau.
Interesting, quirky note going into Cincinnati this week. The Packers have played the Bengals three times on this date.
Four years ago today the Bengals won 31-24. Cincinnati still has four starters from that game, while Green Bay has seven.
Let's not forget this classic:

The Immortal Raymont Harris helps the GBP stop the Neil O'Donnell/Carl Pickens/Corey Dillon-leg Bungles to record a scintillating 13-6 victory.

Didn't he spell it RaymonT ?
I recently re-watched the Kitrick Taylor game. yeah, bert was able to salvage that game at the last but he was AWFUL in the game until the end. getting sacked, fumbling the ball, off target. it sure turned out alright tho.
Yup, Tdog, I remember watching that game and when it was over and I got done celebrating, I said to someone else, "Favre has more balls than brains." I would assert that same thing throughout his career... Sterger included!
Jim Taylor is 78 today.
On this date in 1999....
The last packer fan who gave a schit what herschel thinks... passed away
Birth of a legend: On this day in 1935 Don Hutson made his first career reception. It went for an 83-yard TD in a 7-0 win over the Bears.
Happy Birthday to Packers HOF DE Ezra Johnson. Unofficially had 20.5 sacks in 1978. Famously ate hot dog on sideline during preseason game.
On this day in 1996, the Packers' Chris Jacke kicked a 53-yard field goal to beat the 49ers 23-20 at Lambeau Field. It was the longest field goal to win an overtime game in NFL history.
