"Rams general manager Don Klosterman used Green Bay's first-round pick of 1975 (No. 9 overall) to select defensive lineman Mike Fanning, who gave the team eight solid seasons. Klosterman used the remaining picks from the trade to assemble the core of Los Angeles' secondary for the next few seasons: Monte Jackson, Pat Thomas and Nolan Cromwell (via a trade using another of Green Bay's picks). With the rest of its picks in those two drafts, Los Angeles shored up its offensive line by drafting OG Dennis Harrah and OTs Doug France and Jackie Slater."

Dennis Harrah and Jackie F'in Slater could've been Packers!!!

Today marks the 92nd anniversary of the first official league game for the . Curly Lambeau threw a whopping two passes in a 7-6 win.

The win was over the team from Minneapolis.

Thirteen years ago today: Antonio Freeman makes incredible catch and scores on 43-yard touchdown in overtime on a rainy MNF game vs Vikings.

"He did what?"

Classic Favre... just toss it up.

On this date in 1999, Brett Favre set the NFL record for most consecutive starts by a quarterback when he started his 117th game.

1999, a very forgettable season for Packers fans over the past 25 years.
On this date in 1942: Don Hutson recorded 14 receptions in a single game, still a team record.

This surprised me considering the prolific passing offenses the Packers have had the past 30 years (Dickey, Majik, Favre, Rodgers).

Hall of Fame HB Johnny "Blood" McNally was born on this date in 1903. One of the more colorful characters in Packers lore.

On this day in 1986 the Packers won a Thanksgiving Classic 44-40, clinching it w/ an 85-yard punt return TD by Walter Stanley with :40 left.

And Ron Wolf was hired OTD in 1991. Bob Harlan said that they met over dinner at Denny's a few years earlier and he formed his opinion then.

Need something to smile about today? OTD in 2007 Aaron Rodgers saw his first extended playing time in relief vs DAL, and played well.

Also OTD in 1956: The NFL draft. Bart Starr was chosen 200th overall (17th round). Willie Davis was chosen just 19 picks earlier by CLE.

On this date in 1985: The "Snow Bowl" game vs Tampa Bay. The Packers won 21-0, outgaining the Bucs (led by Steve Young) 512-65.

Nearly as many people claim to have been at the Snow Bowl as the Ice Bowl - both have claimed attendance of over 1 million.
quote:
The NFL held its draft OTD in 1957. In the first four rounds the Packers selected Dan Currie, Jim Taylor, Ray Nitschke and Jerry Kramer.

Dan Currie: not in the HoF.
Jim Taylor: out of the league
Ray Nitschke: deceased
Jerry Kramer: retired 40 years.

Even TT doesn't have this much failure.

They closed down the roads because of the blizzard, no one could get there unless they walked. Some fans actually got there on snowmobiles. Nowadays, they'd probably just reschedule the game, like they did with that Vikings-Eagles Sunday night game that was played on a Tuesday a few years ago.

On this day in 1987: 49ers QB Joe Montana completed his first 17 passes against the Packers on a 33-degree day at Lambeau Field. He also ran 10 yards for this second-quarter touchdown. The 49ers won 23-12. Randy Wright was the Packers' starting QB that day.

Looks like one fan had a bad case of precognition.

From the Packers website:

  • They won their first three by league standing (1929, 1930 and 1931), and 10 since the NFL's playoff system was established in 1933 (1936, 1939, 1944, 1961, 1962, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1996 and 2010).
