What's the rush ? Unless they need a roster spot for somebody interesting

The have indeed placed C JC Tretter on the short-term injured reserve list, per a source. Should show up on transactions today.

Also, the have promoted C Garth Gerhart to the active roster from the practice squad to take Tretter's spot on the 53, per a source

Tretter can't return until Week 9 now(Packers have a BYE Week 8).

I wonder if this is another lost season for Tretter. For the life of me I can't understand why a guy that was slated to miss 6 weeks two weeks ago would be shelved for the next 9 weeks starting Sunday... The numbers ain't addin' up.

No ligament damage to the knee. Played 49 snaps on a hairline fracture. 9 weeks?!?!?!

...did the Packers, the player or the doctor make that prognosis or was it the guesswork of the reporters ?  All I remember from MM was the word significant

Every injury and every player is different.

The injury stuff drives some fans to insanity, don't be one of them

And as far as I remember, he can start practicing with the team after 6 weeks, but not play until after 8.  So the actual difference is negligible and GB buys a roster spot.

Tretter has now officially missed the first 1.5 years of his NFL career.  Good thing he wasn't a first round draft pick.

What happens if Linsley performs well in the interim?  Does he keep the starting position like Bahktiari?

That's cute.

Maybe an incentive system is best for Linzzzzzzzzzzzzzley. For every time he DOESN'T let Rodgers get sacked, he gets a free shot.

Unless Im reading the schedule wrong, the bye week is 9, so maybe we do see him week 8?

He's not eligible because he already practiced in Training Camp.

When the rookie C who's done a good job starts talking about getting delusional in excessive heat and just not caring and going all out he's playing C for the next 12 years as far as I'm concerned.

The assessment of Linsley's play from the OL coaches/scouts is slightly different than the fans

He has weaknesses & shortcomings and either he'll fix them or Tretter gets a shot

Good spot to be in.

Very similar story to Bak, where an injury provided an opportunity for a young player

Sorry, if this is another "Sherrod must start" post, this time, I don't got your back. Sherrod would make a terrible center.

I remember that folks here moaned and groaned about loosing EDS...how did THAT work out? Now we have maybe TWO centers that can play instead of a washed out replacement center. I say that now we have a good (though not great) backup O-lineman not named Sherrod.

MM basically stated that Linsley might be the most impressive rookie that's walked through the doors since his tenure in GB.  There's zero chance a healthy Linsley is removed from C when Tretter returns.  Now, next off season?  Probably not... but maybe.

Who was that? I don't think it was maybe more then outside of a handful. The only bitching about I recall with EDS was the Lion game when MM slid in Lang as an emergency C and he was terrible.

Most thought EDS would be replaced via draft or Tretter. Linsley's been an awesome find so far. I don't see how Tretter gets that job back..even at TC 2015. Because by then, Linsley will be even stronger and have a full season under his belt. Pretty impossible for Tretter to compete with that.

I think MM sat Tretter down two weeks ago and started to lay out his path back to the 53. Take some reps at guard and tackle. He won't be going back to C. I think MM removed that question internally immediately. No reason to let that question float around the locker room. Linsley has earned his spot in a tough spot to be put in.

The whole EDS thing was blown up by Hank and I... I thought he was serviceable, Hank thought he was a cog... or cogbot....or just a general piece of ****.  The reality is GB substantially upgraded the C spot, not to be confused with the G spot.  C went from a position of average production to a strength and it's only going to get stronger.

Linsley has been better than EDS but I don't see what others see.  He has been impressive in pass pro and a bit below avg in the run game IMO.  All in all its an upgrade but "great" is a reach.

I think the competition next year will be good but at this point it's a continuity issue.  What I really liked about Tretter was the athleticism.  That guy was getting down the field on the second level consistently.  It's his versatility that is so intriguing.  Linsley is holding the line pretty solid, nothing to sneeze at trying to fill the big shoes of Big Ern.  The guy is a big strong horse so he can hold off guys in protection, not quite as mobile as Tretter so he isn't clearing blocks consistently.  But he's a rookie, I'm guessing he's only going to get better if he keeps overcoming his coaching of Coach Tagalong.

Lindvall Joseph is laughing at you.

Kid has gotten better every game and he was truly dominant in the run game against the Vikes.

Henry, Linsley is hardly a big C, but he is as strong as an ox.
