The NFC North championship and playoff seeding is at stake as your Green Bay Packers (10-5), coming off a abysmal road loss in Arizona, close out the regular season at Lambeau Field with their 109th regular season game versus the division rival Minnesota Vikings (9-5, pending tonight's game against the New York Giants).

Next Sunday, January 3, at 12:00 PM LFT, on Fox.

Packers vs. Vikings

  • Regular season, all-time: 58-48-2
  • All-time, postseason: 1-1
  • Streaks: The Packers are 10-1-1 in the last 11 games between the teams during the regular and postseason, including 5-1 at Minnesota. The Packers’ only loss during that span was by three points in 2012.
  • Last meeting, regular season: Nov. 22, 2015, at TCF Bank Stadium; Packers won, 30-13.
  • The series began when the Vikings entered the league in 1961, with Vince Lombardi's Packers winning nine of the first 10.
  • Over the past 22 seasons (1994-2015), these teams have accounted for 17 NFC Central/North Division championships.

As a result of today's loss, the only NFC playoff seeds in play for the Packers are the No. 3 or the No. 5. The Packers would earn the No. 3 seed by beating the Vikings next week, or the No. 5 seed with a loss.

If they were to win the No. 3 seed, Green Bay would host either Minnesota, Seattle or Atlanta on wild-card weekend. If the Packers get the No. 5 seed, they would travel to Washington to face the NFC East champion Redskins.

As for Minnesota, the Vikings qualify for the playoffs with a win either tonight against the Giants or next week against the Packers. Unlike Green Bay, the Vikings have yet to clinch a playoff spot and could in fact be knocked out, should they lose their final two games, Seattle loses next week, and Atlanta wins (under that scenario Seattle and Atlanta would qualify for the wild-card berths).

The Packers are down to the last game of the regular season, and while having claimed a playoff berth there are bigger fish to fry:  a division championship, overall seeding, and playoffs at Lambeau.

Plus another win against their wannabe rivals to the west.

I almost forgot.

The Vikings suck.

You know what you've got to do, boys.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see the Packers win next week. What would really stun me is if they win next week, and then find a way to beat the Vikings again in the Wild Card round (assuming the Queens get the #6 seed). Seeing the Packers lose yet another Lambeau playoff game would really, really suck.

Packers lose, they play the Redskins in the playoffs.

Packers win, they most likely get to play the Vikings again or, if Seattle somehow beats the Cardinals in a meaningless game, Seattle in Lambeau.

Anyone rooting for a Packer loss next week?

Seattle would need to beat Arizona in order to avoid playing them in Lambeau.  That seems unlikely since Arizona will still be playing for the #1 seed and Seattle really has nothing to play for.

I for sure am not rooting for them to lose because I am not sure they way Cousins is playing right now the Packers could beat the Redskins.  That and my wife is a die hard Deadskins fan  and I am not sure I would want that matchup for domestic peace.

Anyone on this site that is hoping for a GB loss is dead to me. Anyone hoping for a GB loss in hopes of avoiding a rematch with the Vikings is dead to me. Anyone hoping for a GB loss in order to travel to Washington is dead to me.

It's the Vikings. Eff them. If GB loses because they suck then they lose because they suck. But every ounce of me being want's GB to curb stomp the ever living **** out of them and then do it again the following weekend.

How can any Packer fan not be in love with the idea of beating Minny to win the North then beating them again a week later to end their season? That's fairly tale stuff.

Whether or not this team can realistically do it? Whatever. I certainly don't give GB a punchers chance after the wild card round. But we'll cross that bridgewater later.

Thanks for that post Chilli. I can never think of any situation where I would prefer the Packers to lose against a divisional rival especially to the @ucking Queens. Plus I would always want the Pack to host a playoff game at home for the advantage of the home crowd, not having to travel, and the revenue generated to the team and city with an additional home game played there is always desired no matter what.

Playing the Queens in the WC round is by far the most likely scenario. Only changes if Seattle (playing for nothing) beats Arizona  (playing for the number 1 seed) next Sunday.

Or if GB loses to Minny next Sunday night.

"Playing the Queens in the WC round is by far the most likely scenario."

You have it backwards.  If Seattle loses and the Packers win the Packers are the #3 and Seattle is the #6.  Seattle would be 9-7 and the Vikings would be 10-6.  Seattle #6, Vikings #5.

The Packers are already in the playoffs, the year end record doesn't matter. The seeding doesn't matter. The NFC North crown doesn't matter. Anything can happen in the playoffs. Sunday's game is, in reality, inconsiquential. I'd rather win, but I don't really care. As long as we can get healthy entering the playoffs.

You are correct. I kept thinking Sea / MN finish 10-6, MN get's 6 seed based on head to head. Overlooked Sea losing to Rams yesterday. Sorry.

Can't agree, Packland. I think a lot of people are sleeping on Washington and they'll be a tougher out than most will give them credit for, but there's no way they'd rather face Aaron Rodgers at Lambeau than Kirk Cousins and co.

That's fine, we can disagree.    But playoffs is about getting hot at the right time.  And maybe that's what's happening in DC**.  Washington's season arrow is pointing up and the Packers is pointing down.  And I just think Seattle would have a much easier time of shutting down a Packer offense than the Washington offense.

**for the record, I don't think Washington is going anywhere in the playoffs.

Nothing surprises me about this team. They are capable of playing well, and just as capable of losing big. Zimmer has the Vikings on an even keel and on a roll. We are a mess physically, and it appears, mentally. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if we lose this week; the Vikings and the Pack are headed in opposite directions right now, much as that pains me to say.

The Bears, Lions and Vikings are world beaters each year.

Well....maybe not world beaters, but the Bears & Lions won at Lambeau.

The Vikings have a shot next week for the "clean NFC North sweep" @ Lambeau.

Oh joy....
