One of a kind talent.

No kidding. I've been racking my brain to try and remember a CB with Woodson's entire skill set -- no luck yet. A true gamer -- in his prime, was as big a difference maker as any defensive player in recent history. Capped it off by becoming the team's unquestioned leader. A privilege to watch him in Green and Gold.

RT @TCrabtree83 Gonna miss Woodson. I mean, dude is quoted on our Super Bowl ring! Elite player, teammate and leader! #respect.

Starting in 2006, his first year in GB, Charles returned at least 1 interception for a TD for 6 consecutive years.

Only defensive player in NFL history. No other defensive player has done it more than 4.
Losing 2 of the greatest players every to wear the jersey, in one off-season, and we won't miss a beat talent-wise. It just reminds me once again of how fortunate we are to be watching the Packers during this period.

Excellent point, time for AR, CMIII, Jordy, Burnett and others to set the tone. I don't think leadership will be too much of an issue with AR and CMIII on the team.

excuse me....apparently you did not see the memo about the 07 draft.

Pay cut wasn't a serious discussion for either party. #Packers, Woodson both moving on. Agent does expect a market for DB.

It doesn't sound like a contract restructure ever came up. Sounds like different directions. While I don't think this has any effect on Jennings, it makes the Revis conversation a bit more interesting.
RE: leadership... big assumption that Driver and Woodson had that all to themselves.

Players at or over 30:
Kuhn
Pickett

Surely there were/are other leaders in the locker-room.

Patriots wouldn't surprise me but really it's up to Woodson where he'd want to play.

Looks like GB not only wanted to go younger but equally as important give young guys invaluable experience. Woodson injury allowed Hayward to get a ton of experience virtually no one expected. A re-energized Shields and hopefully Tramon is over his shoulder injury and that's not a bad starting trio. Plus you have House in the wings as well.

A lot of NFL teams would take that.

If we're talking fantasy acquisitions here, Dashon Goldson makes more sense as a signing for the Packers. He wouldn't take any draft picks, and he would fill a much more glaring hole. But in reality, the only thing the Packers are going to use this cap space for is to extend/renegotiate guys like Rodgers, Raji and Matthews. Even if they also end up cutting Hawk and Finley, I wouldn't expect them to sign anyone more than a mid-level free agent.

....we all love to speculate on who we could pick up, but in reality you are probably spot on.

Seems to fit their M.O. Rodney Harrison comes to mind as a success. Adalius Thomas (a former C-Boy crush) comes to mind as a failure.

Oh, shoot, I lost track. Is this a week that we suck? I thought this was a week that we're going to win the Super Bowl. Hard to keep up sometimes. I'd better check my calendar.
Maybe some team will be able to squeeze 1 more year out of him in the right system surrounded by the right players, but he just couldn't play at all last year. In 2011, he was still able to ballhawk, and his problems in coverage wouldn't have been noticeable on a better defense. Now, he's just a liability. Even when the pass rush was good last year (and they did improve significantly) he was still an easy first down. It was just a question of how badly the guy he was covering sucked or if the QB was able to find whoever #21 was covering on that play.
Was watching the NFL replay version of the Niner playoff game last night. He missed badly on a tackle early on, then got away with a PI on a defensed pass. He really seems to have slipped quickly.
Yeah; he still made the occasional play just on sheer heart (because after all, he's Charles Woodson), but on most snaps he wasn't a factor. That one-armed tackle of AP in the playoff game, where he just reached out and snagged him as he bolted through the second level like a frog plucking a fly out of the air, was nothing short of amazing. But he just couldn't cover anymore, and the truth is, he wasn't that great in coverage the year before either. Time catches up with everyone, I guess.
They would never let him go if he still had it.

Love you Charles. You helped us win another title even though you weren't on the field in the 2nd half of the Super Bowl.

See you up in Napa for some wine tasting Smiler
If he had been on the field in the second half of that game, it never would have been close. Steelers fans are still crying about being "robbed" in that game (the things they say about Rodgers/Green Bay make the statements about Shanahan/Elway/Denver from some Packer fans look downright positive in comparison).
You remember that 4th down pass by the Steelers, with under a minute to go? I think it was defensed by Williams? They were whining for weeks that Williams made contact with the receiver before the ball got there. I never saw it, but then I don't live in Pittsburgh, I live on Planet Earth.
They're all still PO'd about this.

Green Bay led 24-19 in the closing seconds of the game, but Pittsburgh was deep in Green Bay territory with a chance to win the game.

Steelers quarterback Neil O'Donnell dropped back to pass and spotted wide receiver Yancey Thigpen all alone in the end zone. Thigpen got his hands on the ball, but it bounced off his hands and fell harmlessly to the ground. Miraculously, the Packers had won their first division title in 23 years.

Thanks for that Shoeless. I was there and it was the first Division Championship in sooo long and we partied like rock stars afterward into the night. We were thanking the spirit of Vince for knocking that ball outta Yancy's hands. And the steelers have nothing to complain about either. that play should have never taken place. O'Donnell scrambled a couple plays beforehand and the zebras gave him at least a yard and a half he didn't get, signaled 1st down and off they went. couldn't challenge it back then but he in no way had achieved the necessary yardage for a 1st down.
I really hope, for Wood's sake, that he finds someone to play for. If there's a decent team out there that's weak enough in the secondary that he could still play a role, I'd like to see the man squeeze one more season out of it before it's all over. He's earned it.
