quote:
"It's almost like maybe a slap in the face," Jenkins said Friday. "I'm not the type of player that causes a big scene or goes out and displays his unhappiness. You just kind of feel like you're not in the plans, like they just don't see you as a valuable enough player."

Hard to imagine that Jenkins wasn't upset over a perceived "slap in the face" and not being seen as a "valuable player". He showed a lot of restraint unlike players who like to air their dirty laundry.

Too bad it worked out the way it did cause not being able to replace Jenkins and Nick Collins really trashed the defense.
That quote was from during the season.

More from that article (http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/104189808.html).

quote:

According to National Football League contract figures, the Packers presently rank sixth in the NFL in team salary at $138.5 million. One prominent agent said that the Packers might not have the cash to re-sign Jenkins.

"That could be an issue, too, with all the players that they've retained," said Jenkins. "They just may not have the room for me. It could be why they picked up the new D-linemen. They might want to go young now, young and cheaper."

Does not seem upset here, you know, 'cause he understands the business.

He wanted an extension and the Packers didn't. He got POd about that but then settled down.
quote:

On the night of Aug. 3, Jenkins lost it during practice and started screaming obscenities at the top of his lungs. The next day, during a meeting with coach Mike McCarthy, Jenkins expressed his frustrations about the contract.

"They called me up to talk," said Jenkins. "I made him aware that I would like to get a deal done. But I guess he's not the one that. . .

"I'm at the point now where I'm not bringing up anything and I'm not pressing anything. I don't care to talk about it anymore. Obviously, it's something that I'm going to think about. I mean, that's your future."

His hissy fit in TC, while under contract, may not have helped his case after the season.
There could actually be a X4 college. Some class examples:

1. How to Discuss in a Condescending Manner
2. How to Hang on a Message Board without Ever Contributing any Information
3. Nickname Creation
4. Bunting for Idiots
5. How to Defend When Up by Three Points
6. Classic Movie History
7. What Does Suicide Really Mean
8. How to Determine a Team's Focus Watching on TV
9. Tim Tebow 101

One could go on and on...

Might I add "leading a seminar on passive aggressive behavior" (check) to that list?

naturally, chicky would teach this class.

Here is a perfect example of why you PO people:

You flitter in here in the morning and prance around different threads leaving behind your fairy dust of derp. You know it's like throwing chum into the water for the non-idiots on the board. And you do it all in less than 10 minutes, you're the fastest derp in the west. You know why you do it, I know why you do it, you do it to get the attention you desperately, desperately, desperately, crave. Did I mention desperately?

I probably should leave the chum alone, but it's the offseason and you're such a passive-aggressive douchebag.

I admit I offer very little in way of football nawlidge, but at least I don't go around spreading derpchum just to get attention.

Saw this today. Comments on what the last remark might mean?

A personnel man for one team with some interest in Woodson said expectations could help decide if and when he resumes his career.

"You're dealing with egos," the scout said. "It's what they've been all these years. Are they willing to accept where they are right now? Are you willing to be a role player, or do you have to be a starter?

"To me, he's got another year or two left in the tank, probably in a situational playing capacity as an inside player. I think he could start at safety, but you'd be worried a little bit. Safety is the last line of defense.

"The more people I talk to, he's a veteran presence, yes. But that leadership element? Maybe not."
I'll take Rick Spielman quotes for $800 Alex!

From John Dorsey:
quote:
"From a business standpoint, it shows you the type of leader Ted Thompson is. I thought it was a hell of a thing to do.

It was fair to the organization and fair to the player, and that's all you can ask for. If he really wants to pursue the game it gives him more time. I can't speak where his mind-set is.

Charles is one of those players you're around once every 20 years. He's as instinctive as any player I've ever been around. I would be shocked if he doesn't get in the Pro Football Hall of Fame."

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
@Gil_Brandt
Charles Woodson said he thought "there would be a little more interest" in free agency. Sad to say I saw that coming”

Would Woody come back for a small 1-yr deal? Would GB want him back for a small 1-yr deal?
For Woodson I doubt it's about the money, it's about the opportunity. It was the same in 2006 when they signed him, he went where he could play the position he wanted to play. Tampa offered more money, but wanted to move him to Safety. If he signed in GB, would he see the field? It was hard to justify keeping him off the field last season with his salary, but if you sign him to a smaller deal it's easy to justify making him a back up. Woodson surely realizes that. He's a competitor and he wants to play. Whoever will put him on the field is who he will sign with.
Tough call. Ed Reed reportedly turned down $4 million per from Houston, even though that's probably as good as he's going to see. It sounds like Reed "expects" $6 million to $7 million per. Prideful guy. I would expect Charles to be thinking along the same lines.

Would not surprise me to see either of them retire and resurface mid season after an injury or two.
Gotta be tough for someone who was on top for so long.

@NFLNetwork
Charles Woodson: "Looking back, this is my second time in free agency and I’ve kind of been shunned both times."
Based on the new CBA 2013 and 14 are not great years to be 2nd tier FA's. Flat cap, market dried up almost as fast as it started. 1 year deals are already starting.

If it was 2015 when the cap is suppose to bump, guy's like Charles would probably have deals.

But you're right. He's been good for so long it sucks to see him go through this again.

If TT get's to a place where he decides Huff is too expensive, and you see how the draft plays out, maybe you ask Charles about a 1yr deal.

Man, CJ, you are getting my hopes up. Got the Packer jersey today with Huff on the back. Just waiting for the digits...
Love to see him in GB. But you look at the available cap space, the dollars needed for AR and Clay. Need to sign the draft picks. Baltimore is apparently interested in Elvis, which effectively removes them from the Huff conversation... Still a longshot.
What Tdog said.
It's a romantic ideal to think of Woodson giving us one more year, and returning to his old form, recapturing the glory of the past.
Sadly, I think that's highly unlikely to happen. Never say never, and I pray we wouldn't need him for injury replacement; otherwise, he's done.
And it's not only cap implications, it's opportunities and development that won't come for another year for our young guys.
Time to let go and move on.

Some things don't change.

Death, taxes, and derp.
