A legitimate question to ask:

Was Smith’s performance one of the greatest performances by a defensive player in Packer history?

It was a rival game, a game deciding the division championship with wide reaching playoff implications, so the stakes were high.

I don’t know how it ranks- Reggie’s 3 sacks in the Super Bowl jumps out, considering the game and the fact that it was pretty much clinching a championship. There are others I’m not remembering- maybe a Tim Harris game in ‘89, maybe a couple Woodson games in his DPOY season, the Matthews predator game against the Bills in 2010, some Lombardi era games I never witnessed- Adderley, Willie Davis, or Nitschke.

Zadarius Smith’s performance on the biggest stage and the biggest game this season goes down as one of, possibly the greatest, ever for this franchise.

It was a phenomenal performance without question... but you'd be jumping into some awfully deep waters talking about "all time" with this franchise.

Sure, the first thought is to say there’s too much history. But here’s the issue- can you come up with one? I have been thinking about this all week, and I can’t other than Reggie in the Super Bowl. Which individual performance is on the same level/better?

Scary question for 2019 playoff teams to Christian Ponder. What if Za’Darius Smith was still a Raven?
Technically his production this year is slightly behind his last year In Baltimore.
There’s been a lot of hand wringing over losing Cook and Cobb to FA. And watching Cobb almost single handedly keep Dallas in a must win game last Sunday was hard to watch while Cooper and Elliott continued to tap out. (Cobb in this offense this year would have been insane)

I just can’t understand how the Ravens let Smith walk as a FA.

Back on topic. It’s not reflected in the stats. But Kenny Clark has once again become a one man powder keg in December. GB blitzed one time vs Minny. Once! Pettine went genius and utilized a 3 man rush with 5 on the line disguising the rush with Clark and the Two Smiths and Clark ate up double teams the way all of us would knock down a couple chicken wings. Clark was a monster Monday night.

Well Nitschke was the MVP of either the 1961 or '62 Championship Game.  I think it was 1962.   And in 1965 he ran step for step with Jim Brown and tipped away what would have been a sure TD pass.  Packers won that game 23-12.  But his biggest contribution may have been in the Ice Bowl when walking off the field when the D stopped the Cowboys with 5 minutes left and told the offense, "DON"T LET ME DOWN!!!"   We all know how that turned out.

Think you have to add the game and what was at stake to the equation.  Reggie's performance in the Super Bowl against NE was ridiculous... if memory serves, didn't he also have a hamstring injury that would've kept most people out of the game?  That would have to be at the top of my list.

What about Al Harris in the playoff game against Seattle with the pick 6?

Tramon's pick 6 in the playoff game against Atlanta in 2010?

BJ Raji's pick 6 in the NFC championship game at Chicago?

Nick Collins' pick 6 in the Super Bowl?

Those are just a few from the era of Packer football I'm familiar with.  I'm certain some older guys in here that were around for the Lombardi years have plenty more.

Pakrz,

I am inclined to believe there cannot be a better performance than Z Smith by any player for a single play.

3.5 sacks and 5 tackles behind the LoS.  That's 9 plays right there.

Truly a dominant performance... that just MIGHT be the best single game performance ever.  I'm just saying, that's a pretty damn big statement to make considering the history of the franchise.

A favorite of mine was Bryce Paup vs Chitcago Halloween/Monsoon game.
2 INTs and 1 sack in those conditions was a great performance.

Another is George Teague's 101 yard INT return for TD vs Detoilet in the '94 Wild Card game. Probably not a dominating performance, but a helluva play!
