This is Jennings though

He plays to the level of the competition

I looked up the 6 games they've played against Detroit and Cleveland - the Bucks were 2-4 in those games. Jennings shot 29% from 3pt range in those games.

His season average is about 37% from 3pt range so he's probably shooting closer to 40% against other (better) teams I would guess
In an already weak EC, Rajon Rondo blows his ACL. The Celtics are officially cooked, now- no late season push for them.

So if you're Hammond, do you make a deal to strengthen your wing or interior scoring? There are guys available, including Josh Smith who wants a max deal after this season. Or Gasol, who might be had one for one with Ellis. Other possibilities?

Kinda looks like a year the Bucks could get past the first round.
Gasol is signed this year and next year for 19MM

Not really sure I would be interested in taking on that salary unless they could package Gooden with Ellis. Gooden has 3 years left on his deal while Ellis has one more- albeit a player option for 11MM next season. He might take that to play for a team like LA.

The problem is that now Milwaukee is thin in the backcourt and I am not sure Ellis fits well with Kobe and Nash there now but he would help that team IMO. He brings some defensive toughness to the table.

The Bucks have several guys coming off the books this year like Pryz and Dalembert and Udrih so in theory they could make a move to shore up the backcourt just in case an Ellis bails or they don't extend Jennings. Some teams are looking to dump salaries.
The Bbucks should dangle Ellis because he gives an old slow team some speed and playmaking ability. He would be the replacement for what they lost when Shannon Brown left, but he's better than Brown, more complete.

And yes, add Gooden to that mix as well. He's a serviceable bench player on a team that isn't very deep in the frontcourt. The salaries match up, and Gooden can knock down a jumper (something D'Antoni does need to run his open attack).

It probably isn't enough. They may want more for Gasol. I don't give LA and draft picks in any deal. And assuming they're going to at least try to extend Jennings, and knowing that they probably aren't keeping Ellis, I would try to make a deal without affecting the core of yong players they already have.

I know he is a slug from the past, but the Bucks team could really use Dalembert to post on offense. IMO, he is the only true offensive post guy they have.
I know its a long shot, but if they could get some production out of Sam in the middle, Larry would be free to roam the weakside and we would have 2 capable towers on D to start a game. Luc-Ric could come off the bench pronto if needed or he could start if you need a defensive 3 to start the game. IMO, Ilyasova could play the 3 on O(he'd be kind of a tough matchup really) for sure and stay in front on D.

It would only make us better and deeper on the bench.
Yup- another BAD loss. The little boost most teams get from a coaching change has subsided. Teams know what to do to make the Bucks offense stall- make Jennings and Ellis shoot from the perimeter. Doesn't always work, like when they're making them, but more often than not it opens the game up and makes the Bucks defense look bad. Minus Sanders and its really bad.

Hammond, dump this roster and don't waste your time trying to be he tallest midget. Trade them both and make a run at the lottery. Keep building through the draft- but you gotta keep hitting on pick, too. This year is the kind of year you get a sleeper that turns out to be a star.
I'm starting to think that they both need to go, particularly after I read the following two quotes.

"It's just going to take a team effort. From here on out I'm going to be aggressive. If I've got to take 20, 30 shots to win the game then that's what I'm going to do right now."

Nothing like saying we need a team effort and then saying I'm going to be a one-man team. Boylan needs to reign this kid in.

Brandon Jennings finished with a game-high 26 points but needed 27 shots to do it, while backcourt mate Monta Ellis took just nine shots in 38 minutes. Ellis finished with eight points and three turnovers. Asked about the shot discrepancy, Boylan said, "I don't know. You'd have to ask Monta that."

Jennings now feels like he has a green light to shoot regardless of the outcome. Monta starting to mail it in, knowing that he won't be on this team beyond this year, if that long. OTOH, Calderone joins the Pistons and immediately starts making the people around him better while shooting for a high percentage. This team has talent but they need to play like a team to get anywhere.
Jennings is a talented player, but his problem's in his head. He doesn't think he's limited. He's Nate Robinson. You don't give big 8 figure contracts to Nate Robinson.

It's time to just admit that he's not going to even be an All Star. Not the kind you build around.

This is the kind of weak draft that you pick up a couple extra picks and out-scout everyone. You save 20-some million and you don't invest in Nate Robinson.
What is the most frustrating is that this team always falls apart the same way. Lack of energy, terrible shot selection, poor rebounding, and poor defense. It doesnt matter who the coach is or who the players are. God know Hammond has ripped apart this team over and over again the last few years. Tremendous turnover. Its just a bad culture. Time to blow it up again and rebuild again??? When does it end?? All I know is having two chuckers and nothing elese doesn't work
Report: Mavericks interested in Brandon Jennings. If Bucks move him.

The Milwaukee Bucks have tested the trade waters for Brandon Jennings β€” he’s a restricted free agent this summer they think is going to potentially get offers larger than they want to match. So do you trade him now and get something for him? The Bucks will listen.

The Mavericks are interested if Milwaukee is serious, tweeted Marc Stein of ESPN.

For the Mavericks this makes sense β€” they want a point guard of the future and Jennings could be that guy. Cuban has regretted on giving up on Steve Nash too quickly and would love to have someone that can play fast and lead his team. Look what Cuban said Monday, as reported by ESPNDallas.com.

β€œI’ll analogize it to Steve Nash,” Cuban said Monday, speaking in generalities about the type of player the Mavs would target. β€œWhatever we saw in Nash and [Michael] Finley with Donnie [Nelson] back then, same type of thing. There’s been lots of players we picked up over time that weren’t All-Stars that turned into cornerstones. We’d take those.

β€œThey don’t have to be proven. They’d have to be someone we think it’s just a question of time or system or coaching or whatever.”

If the Bucks try to foist Drew Gooden as part of this deal, it likely does right there.

Even if it is just Jennings, the challenge is what would go back to the Bucks, who would want another point guard or a big man. Darren Collison or Brandan Wright are not going to get it done, so Dallas is going to have to find a way to send actual quality back.

All that said, keep your eye on Jennings for the next week, and Dallas as well.
I like Darren Collison. I think he could become very good with the right coaching. That coach isn't in MKE, but thats another discussion.

I don't want another big. The Bucks have their young bigs. Getting rid of Gooden would be great. Getting Collison would be great. But that's not enough. The Bucks would need a first rounder, not lottery protected. Most are down on this draft anyway. If Collison and a first round pick is offered, the Bucks dodge a few bullets- they don't have to pay Jennings, they have a young PG that easily has as much potential, and they get rid of Gooden and pick up an extra 1st rounder.

I make that deal, I think...
The draft pick would be nice but I would make that move if it means they can also dump Gooden.

The reality is that nobody is going to give away the farm for Jennings because he isn't signed long term and he isn't a sure thing.

For the Bucks they are going to clear a lot of salary this offseason and that is even more the case if Ellis opts out of his deal after this season. They can still build around Henson and Sanders and Harris - all promising young guys. Ersan and Moute are also pieces to the puzzle but they need a legit backcourt that wants to be there.
