One of the great mysteries of the world is how Eberfloss is still a head coach. Five games over 90% and you lose them all? Yikes. (And I think the Commanders game should have been 99%.)
Methinks Eberflus will be toast at seasons end, if not sooner.
Lotta speculation in CHI media about Eberflus's future with the Bears. There was one report from an undisclosed "close friend" of Poles that he was going to stick with him through his contract. I'm not sure that would be in the best interest of his own career but it's hard to make a case for a guy who's decisions have very possibly lost them at least two games so far this season.
I still say it's lucky they have him because that roster has more than enough talent to win more games. If they don't f him up, CW is going to be very good. He and their O did enough to win that game, especially some of the passes on that last drive. If they had run another play or two to get a few more yards, or if Santos wasn't such a low trajectory kicker, it would have been enough.
I think they had too much on CW's plate earlier and then got caught with starters missing time on an already suspect OL, along with an OC out of his depth. It looks like they simplified the game plan for him, gave him more quick rhythm throws and let him use his legs more and it was a noticeable improvement over the last several games.
They have a murderer's row for the rest of their schedule but if they can get to 9-8 or maybe even 8-9, they might just keep their HC. Makes it hard to root against them!
I'm rooting for Everlose lifetime Bear contract.
Bears fan dad whimpering and stunned leaving the stadium after their last second loss to "The Mighty Green Bay Packers" answering his crying 10 year old daughter who while crying incoherently "daddy why can't we have nice things like beating the cheese heads"? And he responds, tears welling in his eyes at his daughters discomfort "well dear we suck and the Packers own us."

They can have all the nice things they want from Carol House Furniture in StL MO. There advertisements proclaiming "Carol House - because you like nice things" have been on TV for years.
Who needs football to have "nice things"? They should forget football and focus on furniture - they both start with the letter "F". Besides, a new stadium for 100 fans has to be cheaper to build than one for 65000 fans. There are benefits for losing if you know where to look.

The Packers were absolutely terrible through the 70s and 80s. Lambeau was never empty. Just hold the L kid. https://t.co/qtQf7JKp3s

Fake news. They weren't terrible through the 80's. They were competitive and had some real excitement on offense in half of those years. The other half sucked.
They made the playoffs like once in the 80's but they were competitive. I think they were the first team to miss the playoffs with 10 wins in 1989.
You guys make it seem like the 80’s were the good old days. One winning season, a strike shortened season at that. In what world is winning one playoff game in a decade deemed competitive.
Im a tough grader.
@Pikes Peak posted:... a strike shortened season at that.
And the only season with no Packer/Bear game.
Two winning seasons, four losing seasons, four at 8-8.
To say they sucked, from today's 30 year run of success is revisionist. I remember the 80's teams or at least 81-89. They fielded competitive teams with top ten offenses in 82,83,84,89. Anyone who watched them will remember how fun those teams were, especially 89. The most painful years were the four 8-8 seasons because they always showed enough promise to get your hopes up then fall short in the last couple games of the season, missing WC opportunities. They'd beat some top team they weren't supposed to then lose to someone they shouldn't have.
I'd call them average or mediocre but not terrible. Look at the current factories of sadness around the league if you want terrible. Hell, look at the bears' last ten years.

The 8-8 seasons I remember most.
Remember starting 1-7 then going 7-1 under Forrest Fire! As HC?
I don't recall that run specifically but I will bet the one loss in the 7-1 happened in the last two weeks OR some team we needed help from in tie breakers to get WC didn't come through.
Those 8-8 teams really scarred me. I remember thinking at some point, as a kid, that the Packers were in a tier of the nfl that simply wasn't allowed to be in the playoffs. That was reserved for "other" teams and was an unattainable alternate reality for a fan. I remember watching the playoffs and SBs and thinking I was just watching a different league. After the excitement of 89 and then the collapse in 90 I was resigned to the fact I'd never see a SB win in my lifetime.
It did seem like we'd never get there given the market size and limited free agents willing to come. Bringing in Bert and Reggie was a ceiling breaker. We've never looked back. Except AR's 6-10 season. Hash tag blessed.
If they had never hired Dan Devine it would have been an entirely different era. The trade for Hadl screwed us for at least a dozen years.
We all should.
Since Chris Berman was mentioned in another thread, I remember him calling the Packers "the mark of mediocrity" (or something very similar) after the third or last 8-8 season.
Fat bastard.

That’s really all you needed.

They sucked in the 80's.
Fun to watch? Hell yeah.
Good? Hell no. Guys, we have seen what success looks like. We don't have to pretend that the 80's were anything but a failure.
