More shocking than surprising. Wonder what that's all about?
I would guess that 3 RBs will be the case. We also have Monty and Cobb that have done work out of the backfield, so in a way you could look at RBs + WRs for roster spots. Generally that's around 10. So if that's the plan we could keep 7 receivers, or 6 and an extra QB.
Whoa... That's crazy, must think Tretter can take over when Corey comes back? What kind of pick would they be looking at 2nd?
Ummm insanity? WTF? I didn't notice Sitton having problems...
Huge WTF...
I'm guessing they asked him to take a salary cut and he refused.
Rusty posted:This is a surprise: #Packers are planning to cut long-time starting guard Josh Sitton, sources say,
â Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) September 3, 2016All-Pro guard Josh Sitton will be released if the Packers are unable to trade him, per a source. https://t.co/TBgAyu2ztM
â Rob Demovsky (@RobDemovsky) September 3, 2016
If it happens this deserves its own thread
unfuggingbelievable
I would think most teams would say, we'll wait till you cut him and take our chances on the waiver wire?
I'm going to call BS on this one until it gets confirmed.
1.) There's no depth behind him, unless another starter gets picked up/traded for.
1a.) Seriously's who up next? Lane Taylor? Don Barclay? A not-ready-for-primetime Jason Spriggs?
2.) Linsley is still on PUP, no idea if and when he'll ever come off.
3.) Contract expires at the end of the season, why take cap hit for a few thousand grand?
Rapaport and Demovsky have good sources, but I really have a hard time buying this one.
Why cut him? No immediate cap issues. Keep him on the 53 and deal.
Getting something in return is better than nothing (would a comp pick come GB's way? Don't think that applies to players who were cut vice FAs not resigned)
I don't think BS, Silverstein reporting as well.
Why would someone set this rumor up?
He can still play, and he appears healthy. They'd only cut him if he's become a problem in the locker room, or there are injury issues we don't know about.
@josinaanderson
#Packers G Josh Sitton's agent Jack Reale just told me team called this morning and informed him that they were considering releasing Sitton
Reale told me that Josh Sitton was very surprised to hear that news this morning, but appreciated the courtesy call. #Packers
WTF, did he pull a Chris Jacke ? Doesn't make sense.
OMFG. Why....
Packer Report is going to have an article about how Sitton's year last year wasn't good.
If this is true I'm finally going to be in the fire Ted camp. Who in the hell is going to play left guard? Lane Taylor? Barclay?
Spriggs?
http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/...h-sitton-trade-found
It's a surprising move given Sitton's longevity -- he has started 110 of 112 possible regular-season games since 2009 -- but he has battled back issues the last couple of seasons. In fact, this offseason, he said he lost weight in an effort to take some of the stress off his back.
Some random Twitter guy with a response to this Tweet on Sitton
https://twitter.com/RadioJoeSp...141827138916353?s=09
All hearsay. I've heard/read nothing about this. You would think the reporters would know if that happened.
I don't get this at all. I mean, how could they not be able to find a trade partner? He's still a very good Guard. The starting OL was looking great this preseason to....didn't want to break that up as we enter the season
The revenge of Micah Hyde?
@RadioJoeSports nope he called a teammate a N word In a locker room argument
â Hesterly (@NHesterly) September 3, 2016
He wasn't even on the PUP (like TJ lang, Linsley was). So I really don't get it. To my knowledge, I don't believe he missed a single practice in TC.
A lot of things about this doesn't make sense.
Why?
Who will take his place?
What about the continuity the coaches want each and every year?
Why would they all of a sudden start switching players/positions along the OL?
Rusty's article by Demovsky also talks about options on the line.
I think they want to move Tretter there when Linsey comes back. Then extend Lang, and Tretter with Linsley and the interior is set for the 3-4 years? Just a thought
No shi*...
Options for week 1 - Taylor at LG. Barclay at LG. Bulaga at LG; Spriggs at RT. Tretter at LG; Barclay at C. Yuck, yuck, yuck and yuck.
Barclay at OC and Tretter at OG?
e-rock posted:Barclay at OC and Tretter at OG?
so they still downgrade the line for no real clear reason. Barclay isn't a starter.
Funy how this has taken all attention from Geronimo, Janis, Abby, the lbs and other cuts.
In TT I trust!!!
Imminent failed drug test coming up?
I'm not trying to start rumors but honestly aside from that or an upcoming criminal matter, I cannot fathom why the hell he'd be released.
He hasn't played well, FA after the end of the season, back issues?
Figured it was a Marco Rivera situation. He's dealt with some injuries the last couple years and he's hitting the 30 threshold. A year too early than a year too late situation.
Wow Packers cutting Sam Barrington now too
A source close to ILB Sam Barrington said the #Packers have told Barrington he is being released. Team has made no announcement.
â Bob McGinn (@BobMcGinn) September 3, 2016
That's not as surprising really. I thought they would keep him to find out what they had, but the emergence of Martinez and Thomas has made him expendable.
Bad bob reports barrington cut, joe Thomas makes the team
If there's no trade, it should tell you what's up. Lots of teams need an all-pro on their line. If no team wants to trade, that silence is a bit deafening.
