why would he start defending the middle of the field on 3rd down now? his history says that's not on his radar.
They definitely have the discombobulated play down. Can they just work on being on the field when they need to be.

I think he's more likely to design some calls to confuse his own players as to whether they playing man or zone or whether they should be on the field or not.

He was a Pro Bowler in 2015 playing middle linebacker, which is not his natural position. I'd say he earned his money taking one for the team, and performing at a high level. Just my opinion.
He was a probowler based on his name more than his performance
Funny, because during the season, I distinctly remember the guys calling games, guys that had played in the NFL, talking about what a high level Matthews was playing at. That wasn't his name, but his on field performance.
And Pro Football Reference gives his 2015 season a 12 AV grade, the same he had in 2014 when he was an outside linebacker, and a Pro Bowler.
I thought he did well. And, again, that he took one for the team making that adjustment also earns points, imho.
