Re: Positives and negatives
From Peter King today..... Stat of the Week In their past 20 games, Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are: a. 9-11. b. 4-5 at Lambeau Field. c. Two wins worse than the Oakland Raiders. d. Three wins worse than the Detroit Lions. e. Owners of the same number of 300-yard passing games (three) as Cleveland.

Re: Playoffs
Elite defense and mediocre offense. CC is a pretty damn good player. Peavy and 9 fingers are nice players, Ram is the only elite player on offence. Line and rest of WR crew is pretty pedestrian. If the defense could play with a lead early on (and the special teams win a few battles like they did on Sat) this team belongs in the playoffs. If the D has a bad day...

This weeks rankings just came out: 1. Bama 2. O$U 3. Michigan 4. Clemson 5 Washington 6. Bucky 7. PSU 8 Oklahoma 9. Colorado 10. Oklahoma St. So it kind of shakes out like this I guess. OSU or Michigan will have 2 losses after their game but will the committee drop down either of them if the game is close? I kind of wonder if they will? Bama has Auburn but it is at Bama so I don't expect an upset Clemson has a so so South Carolina team Washington has the apple cup with Wash St. If Bucky...

Re: Since No One Else Has The Stomach For It....Pos/Neg
You are right man, that just goes to show how bad our division is right now. If they can take care of business in division (win all 3 at the end of season) and win 3 of the next 4 games. They finish 10-6 and that would be good enough. 9-7 might be cutting it.. so 2-2 coupled with winning the last 3 might be good enough too... but they need to win those division games for certain.

Re: Since No One Else Has The Stomach For It....Pos/Neg
I agree with you, and yet I'm not sure if that's a positive or a negative. I will say that Seattle made the playoffs as a 7-9 division champ in 2010, then won a Super Bowl 3 years later. That said, if the Pack were to win this division at 7-9, I don't feel like that would be a springboard to anything other than a quiet whimpering of a quick and dirty playoff exit.

Re: The Ugly, The Bad ...and the Good?
The Ugly: The NFC North overall. The Vikings won today, but wow, with that offensive line, I don't know if they have more than a couple more wins in them it is that bad. The Lions are the Lions and I think at best that is a 9-7 team, maybe an 8-8 team. One thing that does help both teams... one of them will automatically be 7-4 after Thanksgiving since they play eachother. Having 7 wins going into December might be enough for the winner of that Vikings/Lions game to barely limp to a division...

Re: The Ugly, The Bad ...and the Good?
I agree with the draft and develop philosophy and have been a big TT fan historically but now, we're getting key injuries every year that basically take us out of contention and it's frustrating to see. Additionally, I think the leadership necessary to propel a team over the top is just not there with Rodgers and McC. Do you guys think there's a chance they can win the division with 10-6 or 9-7? Would be cool to see them pull together and scrap out a playoff berth.

Re: The Ugly, The Bad ...and the Good?
I do think this division could be won at 9-7 or even 8-8. The Vikings are floundering a bit and their OL is a disaster and the Lions? well you just never know they are the Lions. I for one never ever blame injuries but this team is just absolutely devastated right now. On offense Cook has missed almost the whole year, the OL is banged up, they had to start a WR at RB, Phat Eddie has been gone for what 4-5 weeks now? Shields has missed the whole season, Starks missed quite a few games, Jordy...

Re: I am starting to get excited about our top 10 draft pick next spring
I hate to say it, but they have to draft BPA. This team needs a significant talent infusion, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and it's not going to be a one year process. It's likely the last year for Shields (10 million), Peppers (9 million), Lacy (1 million), Starks (3 million), Datone Jones (million) and Lang (6 million) and they'll have to make big money decisions about Perry (5 million) and Cook (3 million). That's 39 million of cap money, most of which will become...

There are actually a few players who need to have their 2017 cap hit adjusted based on their production...Matthews will hit us for 15.2 million, Cobb for 12.75, Shields for 12.125, and Nelson for 11.55. All should be candidates for restructure as that is an absurd list of cap hits for the production. -Clay's glorious return to OLB has him on-track for a dominating 25 tackles and 5 sacks. Do we want to be on the hook for 15 mil this time if his hamstring flares up again for weeks at a time.

While Treadwell continues to get nothing accomplished Jason Spriggs is learning how to play guard. Might have been a good selection for Minny Rick has free wheeled his way to 9 first round picks over the last 5 years. His team sucks. He has no first rounder next year. I hope Rick gets a nice extension. Its also important to note the Vikings have never won a Super Bowl.

Re: Rodger wants Thursday Night Playoffs
This is a review in terrible coaching. Del Rio style. Oakland is down 8 with 2:40 left in the 4th facing 2nd and 10 on the KC 23 with two time outs remaining. Oakland runs for 9 yards setting up 3rd and 1 with 2:28 left and the clock running. There are only two options in play here. You run the ball to pick up the 1st down before the two minute warning or you let the clock run down to the two minute warning and then run the ball to pick up the first down. Again. Those are the options. Those...

Re: The Great Sit/Play debate
Agree on this one. There are probably kids in Memphis who idolize LeBron and picked this game out for their parents to take them to months ago as it's the one time this year LeBron played in Memphis. They obviously weren't shelling out the money to see LeBron sit on the bench as a healthy scratch and see 36 year old James Jones play 25 minutes. As big a problem is competitive balance. The team Cleveland put on the floor last night (minus LeBron, Irving, and Love) would be lucky to win 8-10...

Christine Michael could be on a 6 game try-out. He was picked 1 spot behind Lacy and has similar production (ypc wise) with less wear and tear. Playing behind Lynch initially he saw little opportunity. Hell, bring them both back. Neither should command significant FA $$, unless Michael goes nuts over the next 6 games. Re: The Ugly, The Bad ...and the Good?
I like your analogy there. Winning the division at 7-9 or 8-8 might be a temporary "feel good" story, but it might actually be a detriment in terms of re-building this team to reach World Championship caliber. In 2014 when the Pack was borderline World Championship caliber, the strength of the team was Jordy Nelson, Aaron Rodgers, Randall Cobb, Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers, and Eddie Lacy. Since that time Nelson has hit age 30 and had a significant injury. Cobb also received a big contract,...

Re: Texan's Week
Packers had the right gameplan for the Eagles D. Rodgers was getting the ball out lightning fast, not giving those wide 9 Ends time to get home. Similar to the Giants game, the gameplan was focused on controlling the clock and keeping the D off the field. I expect the same thing with the Texans as they have the deep threats on O to force a shootout.

Re: Tougher season than expected.
6 of last year's 8 division winners will not only fail to repeat, they will likely not even make the tournament. Houston could make it 7 as they will probably have to win in Ten to beat out the Titans in week 17 and I don't think 9-7 will get them a wild card. I think that's an unpresidented degree of turnover at the top of the standings. I'm pretty sure New England will win the east until the corpses of Belichek and Brady have both turned to dust. Maybe even then.

Wait so a SB win won't make you stop and say "maybe this guy is good enough..."? I guess I don't understand that mindset. All I want is for GB to win as many SBs as possible, I don't care how it happens or how they get there. If they went 7-9 with the 32nd ranked defense, but they made the playoffs and won out, I would call it a successful season.

Re: Why We Won/Why the Vikings can still go ****.q themselves
Nobody disagrees with that. The problem is we've seen Capers piss away at least a couple of legit shots at the Superb Owl over the past few years. And Seattle, MM and that coaching staff will wear that tattoo till the end of time. And yes, talent supplied is part of the equation but the coaching breakdowns and the 4th quarter sit and quit are evident.

The Pack is 3-5 in the playoffs the past 5 seasons, including wins over the Joe Webb quarterbacked Vikings and the 9-7 Redskins last year. We all love the 2010 Super Bowl run, but other than the very close, very fortunate, and compelling victory over Dallas in 2014, I am having a hard time seeing how the Packers have reached another gear in the playoffs recently.

The Packers under McCarthy are 8-7 in the playoffs. 5 of those 7 losses have come on the last play of the game. Regression to the mean. The 4-0 road run in 2010 is off-set by the 5 last play losses?

In 2014 they limped into the playoffs with AR's bum calf, beat a very hot DAL team and destroyed SEA @SEA for 56:00. I'd call that another gear. Last year they looked like dog**** the whole second half of the season and were running on fumes at WR. They still beat WAS @ WAS and took a hot ARZ team to OT @ AZ. The same AZ team that trucked them a couple weeks before. I'd call that another gear. The only game where a MM team clearly fell apart in the playoffs was 2011.

One of the best stories I recall hearing RE Weather and Lambeau was at the Ice Bowl, many of the Dallas Cowboy fans there showed up in suits (linen/silk) and fodera hats with their wives showing up in high heels, short skirts and maybe a fur collar at the top of their button down short jackets. It was -15 with WC's dipping as low as -26 to -30. Apparently the Cowboy fans made it about a quarter out in the stands before bailing the hell out of there.

What we don't know with still pics, and I admit I've used pics like this to question WTF? on some plays, but we don't know the defense called or the progression dictated by the play called. Plus, it all happens in the blink of an eye. Except when they call the 9-second pass play .

Zach, via his twitter had another still pic of Cook running wide open and as FreeSafety noted, indeed other WR's we're open that Rodgers didn't throw to. It seemed, at least early on, he was reverting back to looking for the Home Run ball vs taking the underneath stuff and short curl/slants that we're open. Seeing GB plod down the field with 6-8 yard dink and dunk type passes in a 7-10 minute drive would be just what the Packers DL and secondary would need. As much as Dallas is looking to...

It also might be that the Giants were giving him defensive looks that he hadn't seen before. That might be what the slow starts are from - as you said this happens in the blink of an eye and Rodgers is trying to recognize the coverage schemes that the opposing team is using. Once he gets a read on their coverages for that game it's often lights out after that. A lot of good QBs function like this - once they figure out what a defense is designed to do they make very quick reads without...

How much better can he possibly be than the past 8 weeks? He's been positively perfect. Are we that spoiled by him that the best anyone has ever watched isn't quite good enough? I don't think it's possible to win 9 games in 8 starts but is that the expectation now?

Re: Gruden's Grunts vs McCarthyism's Kids
I would have loved to say our OL and Hundley were positives for this first half. Can't. 23 and 37 and 50. Good. 51. Better(edit...than he has been) Bad news is that 9 will get almost an entire half to show us that he's 7, but drafted in the second instead of the fifth. 8 will end up handing off to Gado for the last 1:24. Then play well next week. Then we'll keep 7 an 9 and put 8 on the practice squad and then he'll be signed to the 53 man roster by the Patriots. And then I'll be.

What we learned tonight. 1. OL depth is as bad as we thought. 2. Hundley is worse than we thought. 3. Kizer isn’t far behind Hundley. 4. The QB room isn't fine after Rodgers. 5. We learned nothing about the rookie WRs because of 1-4. Which is a complete ****ing waste of a trip out west. 6. Josh Jackson is good. 7. Opie can punt. 8. Hundley is the backup. 9. Hundley is the backup. 10. Hundley is the mother ****ing backup.
