Still some good players available including some decent O lineman.  Hope they get a couple more OLine in FA.  Holland still available, whoever wanted him so badly...maybe in FA?

Also kinda like Davin Bellamy from Georgia.  Kiper had a kid from Stony Brook with a lot of potential at OT, Timon Parris.  The OT from West Georgia with all kinds of ability but with off the field issues, Desmond Harrison.

5 of Mel Kiper's top 10 for next year's draft are DL/DE. This wasn't a deep draft for rushers of the QB, he said next year's will be.

Maybe this is in BG's thinking. Two first rounders next year. If our D steps up this year, and we stay healthy, that's a late first round pick. If not, or if the Saints flounder at all, could get one closer to the mid first, and could move up for a premier pass rusher.

Too much hand wringing about what positions weren’t drafted.  If Gute didn’t think O-linemen were graded to be picked in certain rounds, then he shouldn’t just because it’s a position of need.  And if there’s better graded players, then that’s who they should take.  After drafting a DB in round 1, it wasn’t necessarily a need in round 2.  But the best graded player was available and was a DB, so that’s who he took.  Could’ve gone OL or Edge, but he went with best player.

Sure there’s diamonds in the rough in late rounds.  But also in UDFAs.  Is a 6th or 7th rounder really that much more likely to make the team and contribute than an UDFA.  Maybe a little, but not much.

Gute can find talent tomorrow with those undrafted.  And the second FA period begins in June after teams make additional cuts.  And maybe, just maybe Gute makes a trade or two.  Maybe they can get OLine depth with dangling Ty Monty.

I’m not overly concerned in April about the Vikings playoff chances. And I’m also not overly concerned in April about the Packers depth either.

This is going to be a process. Gute has to build the roster in the manner he sees fit. It's not going to happen overnight. We're not that far away, but there are some gaps to close.

Patience folks, please.

I’m good with this draft. Opie Whizburger being the crown jewel of course.  3 WR picks and Looney seem like a couple of throw away picks but the first 4 1/3 rounds are pretty damn solid.

Neighbor is a coach at DeLasalle High School. After round 6 tonight I go next door to ask him what he thinks about the draft.

He’s a full blown 49er fan. So he tells me he can’t believe SF didn’t draft Josh Jackson in round two at 44 and instead took a WR that would have been available in round 4 (Dante Pettis)

So he goes straight to St Brown. He tells me about the time he crossed paths with St Brown and Servite in LA. How the coaches at Servite said he’s the best WR they’ve ever seen in LA but that St Brown thinks everyone needs to just relax about football. He loves playing football. But he just seems disconnected with everyone’s importance on football. But if he ever connected with football he’d be completely unstoppable.

That’s coming from Servites staff. And Servite has seen enough of Mater Dei and DeLasalle to understand who’s capable of the NFL.

Going at the end of round six might spark a connection.

PFF gives GB one of the few "Elite" draft grades...

If you rate what the Packers did & how they used the process of the draft, you cannot give them any less than a B+ / A- grade. Gute was excellent in his first draft.

Getting not 1 but TWO first round talents PLUS a first rounder next year. Yes. Gutey was great

50 Irish drunks in a bar....

I liked Chad Reuters explanation.

Grading teams on how they used the draft process, not the players.

Gute used the process properly & secured extra draft capital next year. He gets an A for 2018

It was weird, and real grades are a long way off, just initial feelings:

I absolutely loved the Burks and Madison picks. There hasn't been an ILB in Green Bay with Burks' speed/potential in coverage since Barnett. Madison comes from a fast-paced passing offense so I'm sure he'll need work on his three-point stance, but he's also the only real O-lineman they drafted.

The corners are concerning. Jackson is not known for his man skills but how do you pass on that value even if you have to run more combination coverage in the end? He should man up on guys like Mohammed Sanu who won't run away from defenders but post up guys like Alexander with aplomb. If Alexander were maybe an inch taller it would help but he's just small in a league with a lot of big receivers.

The receivers seemed like they were throwing darts at guys with physical traits but a substantial and a minor question mark.

I'm okay with the the special teamers. I wasn't thrilled originally but a bad long snapper is trouble and getting a good, long-term punter would be nice.

Looney and Donnerson feel like raw traits guy who won't see the regular season roster for a while if they develop. More UDFA types than picks, but there was obviously something about them Gutekunst didn't want to chance missing and good use of 7s in that regard.

I continue to disagree with your assessment over the CB's.  You talk about height like it's some sort of guaranteed success in the NFL while ignoring guys like Revis are under 6'.  Height helps, if you can play the game, have ball skills and a high football IQ.  Height alone doesn't equate to automatic success at this level, which is why the professionals drafted Alexander in the first place.

As for Jackson, his production was off the charts.  I don't care if he played more zone than man, his ball skills and awareness in coverage are elite.  You don't scheme your way into 27 passes defensed and 8 picks.  If that were the case, Iowa would have a guy with those stats every season.

Landing these two guys at the top of the draft, while acquiring, a 2019 1st round pick, was highway robbery.

Serious question. Who is starting at RT week 1?

Isn't Bulaga expected to be ready?

Spriggs. Guy played LT in college. They bounced him around the line and then he got injured. If they put him at RT and let him learn the position during OT's, training camp and preseason, I would think he could learn it.

Was surprised to see the Bears with a “below average” rating.  I thought they had a good first couple of rounds at least.  Vikes and Loins with “below average” as well.

vikings got the low rating partly for moving up to take a Kicker. Gary Anderson II.
