Who was going to draft a QB right before Green Bay? No one. That was a complete panic move by our General Manager. If Love was the target, there wasn’t a single team ahead of Green Bay at # 30 that was going to take him.
If another team wasn't also willing to trade up ahead of #30 to get Love.
AR having a one finger scotch about now.
Personally, I really don't give a shit what Rodgers thinks about any of this. He is paid very, very well to play very, very well. He needs to STFU and hold up his end of the bargain. Something tells me his arrogance won't handle this well though.
The ONLY thing that makes sense to me is GB got wind that NE was going to move up to take Love and Gute beat them to it. Not saying it was the right choice but I get the thought process.
Not what I wanted, but it is slowly growing on me. I think it will motivate Rodgers. Let's face it. He needs something.
They could be set for the future at QB. When was the last number one pick that actually amounted to anything for the Packers? It's a bust pick lately for them anyway. Take a chance.
There is plenty of draft left to draft a linebacker, a couple receivers, and some line help.
Still not what I wanted. Trying to make sense out of it.
@Grave Digger posted:Perspective in needed though:
1. this is the deepest WR draft we’ve ever seen and there will be options on Day 2. Don’t forget that same draft as Rodgers we took a franchise Safety in R2, took an elite WR in R2 the next year and took elite pass catchers in R2 and R3 over the next 3 seasons. We can shore up WR tomorrow.
2. Recent history says you take a run stuffer in R4. We can find a 1T hog on the DL.
3. Plenty of other quality ILBs available tomorrow like Malik Harrison and Logan Wilson.
4. There will be UFA cuts that we can pick up to shore up needs. These aren’t Ted Thompson’s Packers, Gute doesn’t ONLY rely on the draft.
I love you, man. Thanks for the perspective.
Here's my perspective. Top 5 worst draft decisions by the Packers.
Any QB is one hit away from a season ender.
I was shocked but I think I kind of get it...
12 has broken his collarbone twice. After the calf injury he looked a bit slow and even with last year he still had some passes that missed which were wtf moments.
Why not get someone you think could be a franchise guy early and let him learn? You have to figure there is NO WAY they made this pick without getting the OK from 12... no way at all. The kid seems to have a great head on his shoulders and all the abilities, he just needs to learn. 12 had to deal with an arrogant asshat who stated he wouldn't teach and I am fairly confident that he doesn't want to be that same guy.
Only time will tell with this pick and hopefully Gutensmush has a plan. There's things us as fans or owners don't know. I'm fine with this pick as long as Aaron is and I'm convinced they don't make it without him knowing they are going to...
Who said it? Don't go into the draft without already having your starting lineup? It seems the brass decided this was the BPA for the future of the team. It's not often a rookie has immeadiate impact, I will take a wait see, but hey, I'm wrong a bunch. So yeah.
What about using him like the Saints use Hill?
Pre Draft comparison: Blake Bortles.
Brian GorkenPace.
Oh well. Good luck kid.

Again... F Aaron Rodgers. He's a player, like the other 52 dudes on the roster. I'd be highly disappointed in Gute or anybody else on the Packers staff if they asked Aaron-fucking-Rodgers if it was okay to draft a QB. GTFO with that nonsense.
Let it sink in that this is a Gary Anderson QB
Even though drafting a quarterback is like getting socks and underwear for Christmas lets see how this all pans out in the end
I’ll be honest...Ive given up a lot more trying to get me some Love.

Could be Brak. I’m less thrilled with the player than the idea of taking a QB. Is Love a top 5 player that everyone was too busy grabbing up shiny skill players that they just whiffed on a franchise QB like Rodgers? I don’t think so. Totally different situation. If Tua or Herbert fell, I would be more solid on the pick. Love strikes me as more Deshone Kizer than Patrick Mahomes.
I couldn't care less about the trade up. It's picking a QB in round one...
I just cannot come to terms with a team that has MASSIVE holes at LB, at WR, at OT, at TE wasting their first round pick on a guy that won't see the field for at least 2, probably 3 years. Had you legit upgraded even one of those positions in FA, a story could be made but, they are sitting after FA and Round 1 of the draft and still have massive holes at LB, WR, OT, and TE.
Meanwhile the team that absolutely curbstomped them twice added impact players on both sides of the ball.
The good news is, you'll all be able to decide during whenever the next pre season is. No way this guy out performs Boyle.
No fucking way.
@Timpranillo posted:Not anymore.
I'm not so sure we were that close. The stars aligned in so many ways for us last year, and I didn't really think we were a 13-3 team. The Smith brothers both exceeded expectations and had career years, Aaron Jones had a career year and he and guys like Bulaga and King defied their history and stayed healthy. And we caught teams like KC without their franchise players. Clearly they didn't belong on the same field as SF. Still lots of holes to fill, and I don't like this pick, but Patrick Queen, who I thought was the sure pick, over Jordan Love IMHO would not have put us over the top.
I like Boyle. I think they will be sorry they aren’t handing him the keys! 😀

All due respect, I totally disagree. I would say that there is NO WAY they consulted with a player about a draft pick. If they did, they're in worse shape than we can imagine.
I’m more scared of Jeff Gladney in MIN than I am Justin Jefferson. Rodgers will torch him though.

I don't give two shits about motivating Rodgers, I care about the front office giving him weapons. And what if this does motivate him? "Hey guys, I'm really motivated now, now who do you want me to throw to? Jordy? Randal? Allison? Jefferson? Higgins? Lamb? Aiyuk?" OH WAIT!
So far they've done nothing but trade away his best friends and receivers without replacing them, while ignoring a WR heavy draft to go up to draft a QB who should not see a single snap for four seasons.
This will motivate Rodgers to demand a trade and get his contract bought out by a team willing to give him everything he needs. Plenty of teams would do it in a heartbeat. Shit, even the Vikings would do it after the Cousins contract expires.

I agree and honestly I feel like Rodgers is smart enough to see that kind of weakness as more alarming than not getting him skill players. He’s a realist, he knows where his career is at. He’s not a shitbag like Brady who manipulates the situation with the owner to not get pushed out the door. Rodgers will play out his contract and either retire or go to NE and win a SB with BB.

I thought we traded away our 4th round pick to move up for Love. So we don’t have a 4th round pick anymore, do we?
