If they believe Love is the future it might be time to make a trade. They could probably get Marvin Jones from Jacksonville for a four or five as he's in the final year of his contract, affordable and better than what they have. It would take some of the pressure off the rookies this year and give them a solid guy at a reasonable cost. That might mean Fredokunst  can't use that pick to move up earlier, but so be it.

It's that "or in the future" part of the quote that confirms he won't be in the starting lineup at WR until he earns his way back.  Man, what happened to this kid?

Yeah, I'm not buying it. When 12 is openly not in your corner you are fucked.

The notion that someone (or multiple people?) had that they were trying to showcase him in the KC game for a cut-down weekend trade and that he's now keeping a roster spot warm for Kylin Hill and then he's gone seems very plausible right now.

Spoon missed the whole quote. Stenavich then went on to say,

”I mean, our whole receiver crew could be wiped out by a meteor, all the free agent receivers in the league shot by assassins and the NFL could bar the Packers from trading for any receivers. If that happens, you bet your bottom dollar, Amari is going to play”.

I think the fact that they have Amari Rodgers back there returning kicks says a lot about how the organization still looks at special teams as less important than other units. They finally upgraded the coaching by paying for someone with a good track record after the utter incompetence of last years special teams arguably cost them a trip to the Super Bowl. But for a team whose special teams cost them a trip to the Super Bowl back in 2015, the fact it still took a yearlong debacle to invest in a special teams coach says a lot.

I can think of multiple guys that would likely be much better on kick returns on the team right now, or at least give you the chance for a big play: Eric Stokes, Watson, Doubs, Alexander, Savage, and R. Douglas just to name a few. The Packers are still making the calculation that the possible reward of a game-changing return just isn't worth the perceived injury risk for a frontline player. Amari Rodgers appears to be completely expendable and you could replace him on 24 hours notice with a guy off the street who had returned kicks in the NFL before.  I guess most teams do that as well. It's a far cry from when guys like Charles Woodson and Deion Sanders returned kicks all time time not that long ago.

Said it before and I'll say it again: only reason he's got a roster spot is the team's investment in him.

What investment, where he was drafted?  They cut J'mon Moore after his rookie season.  I don't buy it.

They probably (shock!) think he's the best option they have at returner.  They kept him for special teams, just like Leavitt and Nixon, who by the way both had zero snaps on D last week, but played every ST snap.

Rodgers went at 85 and Moore at 133 so I'm not sure the investment is comparable, but regardless, if Amari showed as little as Moore did he'd likely be gone too. That's more an indication of how badly Gutey missed on Moore than anything.

BTW, Gutey believes in his scouting and it's completely understandable that he's willing to give draft picks more leeway. Only is really a bad thing when they hang onto a clear bust way too long (not the case with Amari but his time is getting short).

The thing that I did not understand after he was drafted was reading his his RAS. It seemed low for a third rounder. I live is SC and even the Clemson fans thought he was just ok. Even after his stated commitment to improving his body he still looks slow. My hope is that it is just a mental thing and the light eventually comes on and he becomes adequate.

I think his time is basically up as a WR.  Basically proven by the fact that Winfree is coming off the PS to get snaps on the Offense over him.

He's only here to return, like a couple other ST-only players, and if he doesn't wow anyone there they'll find a new returner next year and he'll be cut.  But I don't see him being a WR on this team anymore.

"Horrific" is a little strong...aside from his one muff OOB. Rodgers is ranked 16th of 39 punt returners through 2 games

That’s cherry picking.  We got all the data from last year too.  On top of that, the one good return this year, wasn’t anything he did.   It was blocked well and he got the yards in front of him and nothing more.

5 offensive snaps in 5 games as a supposed WR on a team with not very good and oft-injured WRs (Lazard game 1, Watson game 3, Watkins games 3-5).

Lost his kickoff return duties in week 5.

Fumbled for a 2nd time as a punt returner in week 5.

Offers nothing in the return game.

Head coach frustration with him as a returner becoming more evident, if more subtle than that expressed by the QB regarding his receiving abilities.

How long does Gutey keep Amari Rodgers, the guy he traded up into the 3rd round to select just 17 months ago (in the 2021 draft), on the roster?

Gutey gave his 2019 3rd round bust Jace Sternberger 2 full seasons to prove his worth, does Amari even get that?

3rd Round picks under Gute and even going back to Ted, just a nightmare. I have no ill will towards this kid at all, but he also came into his rookie year out of shape and a couple of reports /rumors were that he was behind in grasping the playbook as well.

it’s just kind of stunning when you look at his college tape vs now. It’s like viewing 2 completely different players. Luckily, Cobb has been drinking from the fountain of youth because he’s doing pretty much what we thought Rodgers would do in the slot.

I don’t foresee him being cut now, but why not give one of the practice squad WRs a chance ? They can’t do any worse production-wise vs what Amari is doing.

I had a strange conversation with an Amari Rodgers fan. He loved him at Clemson. He remarked how lucky GB was to have him. We were at a head table so my reply was muted. I said that Rodgers has been a disappointment. He assured me that once Amari settled down the Packers would discover what a great player he can become. I gave him a wan smile and changed the subject.
