If their over/under on Love is about right, then odds are the over/under on Watson is fair. That doesn’t mean statistical anomalies don’t happen, like last year, but it also doesn’t make predictions unfair or improbable.

So, when you are wrong it is an anomaly? Embarrassing.

I was not wrong about Jamal Reynolds. It was an anomaly that he busted.

Most of what he did as a rookie was, yes, just using his speed.  That's one trick that defenses can easily adjust to.  Now it's up to him to develop his route running skills.  What is sure to benefit him is the fact the offense has other WR's and RB's who look like they'll be adept at working the shorter and intermediate depths of the route trees.  If nothing else, if those guys are effective, it will open up more "go" opportunities for Watson.  At best, Watson will develop the ability to do more than that.

But that speed is incredible.  When he caught that slant and just ran away from the secondary last year, that was an eye-opener.  And if he didn't drop that pass against the Vikings...he had that corner beat badly.  If he can work on his hands and continue to get better on his route running, wow (and stay healthy).  He's only just now into his second year.

That 3rd touchdown against Dallas where he was so wide open that some on this board started some dum dum stuff about how easy it was? Watson was TRIPLE TEAMED on that play, but none of the Cowboys DBs could keep up. Crazy shit!

4 touchdowns sounds about right…if he’s lucky!

“One of my biggest goals was just to not let ‘12’ down,” Watson said referring to Rodgers, “not let the vets in the room down. Just got my head spinning thinking about stuff too much. When I [dropped] a ball, first thing I’m thinking of is, ‘I just let everyone down’ and I’m thinking about the next time and [thinking] ‘Oh, I can’t let them down the next time’ instead of the opposite of thinking, ‘I’ve got to make it next time and I’ve got to get this thing rolling.’

And I’m sure the rolling eyes and pouting by the QB who never bothered to show up to support him did wonders for his confidence.🙄

The speed difference is clearly noticeable in the Avg per reception. Gage is a Clydesdale compared to Watson.

Can't wait to see Watsons next 4-5 years

These are about the most-likely outcomes and they're pretty good at it.  And yes, Watson's rookie numbers were an anomaly, just like Robert Tonyan isn't an elite TE even though he had ten TDs a couple of years ago.

Athleticism is great, but everyone in the league is a great athlete. Watson is still very raw and has a number of holes in his game, and Love will be a first-time starter. That likely means modest numbers, but it's not like they're Super Bowl contenders right now. If they put up modest numbers and appear to be progressing that's what's important. The offense is in rebuilding mode and the defense still has Joe Barry in charge.

Watson is 6'5" - 210

Calvin Johnson is 6'5" - 237

Watson is a pretty tall dude.

I'll go out on a limb and say Watson has more than 4TDs this season barring injury.

Ok so he high pointed a 50/50 ball at end of game. That was a nice play.

Of course he hurt himself but hopefully he works through it & can play next Sunday

More of that please!!

Watson appeared okay in the locker room after the game according to reporters... though he didn't speak to any of them as he was technically in the concussion protocol. He did land awkwardly.

He landed awkwardly and the defender landed on Watson's head to top it off. It was a nice play by Watson, but a bad play by Love as Watson was wide open for several yards earlier but Love got the ball off late and to the wrong side (if I recall). So, rather than hitting Watson in stride, Watson had to slow down and make the difficult catch.

It's a 50-50 ball, something an NFL WR is frequently called on to do. Yes, Watson is his job. Yes, Love did his job by putting the ball where Watson had the advantage. The score was 20-3 at the time and I think most were happy converting a 3rd and 13, even the fact that MLF went for it. I don't see anything wrong with that throw.

MLF said in his presser that although Watson was being evaluated, they didn't think he had a concussion.

Yes, 50-50 balls happen. No problem. Love made it more of a difficult play than it had to be. If you watch Watson's entire route, he comes wide open shortly after the three receivers break apart, but Love doesn't see it/hit him then. Love could have made that a much easier catch if he hit Watson when he came open with a flatter, harder pass. It's what I do criticize Love for: he's late reading when guys are coming open and hasn't thrown receivers open. If he learns that, he will help his receivers a lot by making their catches easier, and Love will become an excellent QB.

Was it last week when Love threw the ball almost behind Watson in the middle of the field?  I don’t remember if Watson caught it or not but he went down with what looked like a significant leg injury….at least by the way he was acting.  He managed to get off the field but the cameras showed him on the sidelines rolling on the ground in pain.  The next day everybody wondered how bad the injury was. By Wednesday he was fine and all tests were negative.

Lots of drama with that guy.

I do remember that play and thinking it was possibly a knee injury.

He did a lot more blocking than catching at NDSU as they were a predominantly running offense.

I said on another thread, if he puts a little weight on and becomes a more reliable receiver, in whatever role that is, that together with being able to wall off an edge defender would make him a supercharged Lazard.  Turbo-lizzard.  That skill set would seem to have a lot of value in MLF's offense.

Perhaps drafted a bit high in that case, but having a turbo lizzard would come in handy. Especially if dooby-doo and Reed can continue developing their skills. Hoping Wick comes along too. Watson needs a few more touchdowns. He didn't even think to attempt a leap. You wanna group celebrate? Send the entire core into the stands.

I don't see Love holding that ball at all. That ball was put about in the only place it could to be caught according to the route Watson ran. Look where the other 2 WRs are. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZXaDYHCu9k

In the preseason and the first 2 games Love was getting rid of that ball and throwing receivers open. Too many examples of him failing to throw on time since then, this play included.

The kid is definitely not soft like so many of you think. He is just indecisive. That’s what happens when you are learning to play the game at this level.

Yup, Indecisive. Not just Watson.

Like MiLF said, just let it rip.

No longer rookies. 8 games in, trust your lifetime of training and playing football.
