This is why I think fans want the proven player vs the draft pick. They see what the Rams did and rather take their chances with potential for success now and deal with the cap repercussions later. I get both sides of the argument .

Bobby Beathard, when he was with Washington back in the 70s and 80s was a proponent of trading picks for proven players. And it worked out pretty well for the β€˜skins.  He traded away eight of the team’s eleven 1st Round picks over the course of his tenure.  Obviously skyrocketing contracts, a salary cap and free agency alter the landscape from the 70s and 80s.  But I am not opposed to trading draft capital for known entities, assuming it’s a fair deal.

Interestingly , from 1969 to 1990 the Redskins did not have a 1st Round pick in 19 of 22 seasons. Crazy to think of given how prized First Rounders are nowadays.

And then Adams wanted out, so we slapped the franchise tag on him and traded him for a decent haul but now we have an average receiver room (yes, there's still time, I get it, but you don't replace Adams).  You're right, Chongo, a REALLY good running game and "good" receivers could get it done, but receivers take time to develop unless you happen to land a Justin Jefferson, but I don't see any of those in this year's draft. Adams was a HUGE reason for our success on offense, he's the best receiver in the game.  "Good" receivers aren't going to replace his production, or his chemistry with AR. the next 4 years, giving us a chance to build a monster team that will win the SB.

My opinion remains that we should

Justin Jefferson was hardly a sure bet to be an immediate star.  He was the fifth WR taken in the first round. And guess what pick he was - #22.  Who has pick #22 in this year’s draft? There is plenty of opportunity to get a guy just like JJ in this years draft.

I hope we strike gold with at least one receiver.  There's plenty of opportunity, I agree, but like you said, there's no sure bet in a draft.

Just like there was no sure bet any team would have given the Packers what Denver gave Seattle.  In fact there have not been any rumors even that any team wanted AR after the Denver Seattle deal went down.

True.  All we know is that several teams were interested according to sources other than the Packers.  I bet it would have been a decent haul, however.  You can't tell me that teams who needed a QB and settled for a Matt Ryan or a Davis Mills or a Mason Rudolph or a Taysom Hill or a Daniel Jones, etc. wouldn't have paid through the nose to get AR.

It happens.

I didn't say they wouldn't, but yeah, somebody will pay them.  The Packers won't, apparently.  Adams is worth a lot more than those guys though.  So pay through the nose?  I dunno, depends on what that means for a team.  It wouldn't be an Adams offer, unless they're stupid.

I would bet everyone in the league knew rodgers was coming back to green bay since the end of the season. No need to chase something they had no chance at.

The speculation surrounding the Green Bay Packers acquiring another pass catcher via trade, at least publicly, has mostly centered around veteran wide receivers such as DK Metcalf or Deebo Samuel.

According to a pair of league sources, however, the Packers are targeting a veteran tight end. Specifically, Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller. The Packers and Raiders have engaged in talks regarding a trade of Waller with an eye toward a deal getting done during this week’s NFL draft.

Waller is also apparently the player the Packers were trying to pry away from the Raiders during the negotiations around the trade of Davante Adams, a move that was nixed when both sides were reminded that league rules prohibit players being part of compensation for a trade of a player on an unsigned franchise tag.

Waller will turn 30 in September and still has two years remaining on his deal, one which features no more guaranteed money remaining on it.

No word yet on what kind of compensation is being discussed or offered by the Packers.

Last season, Waller missed five games due to a combination of a knee injury, a back injury and time on the COVID list. In the 11 games he appeared in, he caught 55 balls for 665 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 12.1 yards per reception.

Waller was selected as a wide receiver in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. After his rookie season, the Ravens converted him to tight end.

The Raiders signed Waller off the Ravens’ practice squad in 2018. He made the Pro Bowl in 2020 with 107 catches for 1,196 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Our best chance at a top 5 defense was by trading AR which would have been a better haul than trading Adams.  Knowing what we know now about Adams, we could have had a monster haul by trading both. That's water under the bridge.  Now, it should be BAP at every pick which could involve a WR in the first and second rounds.

Call me crazy but I think this defense has a chance to be top 5.

I hope so, that would be awesome.  It would be nice to finally have all three of our top corners playing at the same time.  Jarran Reed will provide depth on the D-line, Slayton should be improved.  There are some nice options available in the draft at edge, maybe linebacker.  It's certainly possible.
