Some snippets from MM presser, just concluded:

Edit: summary below, from the JSO:

Green Bay β€” The following is a summary of Packers coach Mike McCarthy's news conference on Tuesday afternoon:

  • (On Andrew Quarless) Andrew was in here this morning. Just had a chance to visit with him. He will definitely be challenged this week. He has a knee sprain.
  • (On Davante Adams) All the guys were in there today getting treatment. It was part of the game. We've just got to get healthy.
  • (On young players) Our young players, there's a reason why they're on the 53. There's a reason why we have 10 on the practice squad. ... Our team develops into 63. A lot of credit to the players. ... The coaching staff does an incredible job with these guys. ... Guys are stepping up and taking advantage of their opportunity.
  • (On a short week) Short week, long trip, it's going to be hot.
  • (On traveling on Friday instead of Saturday) We've always talked about it. I think it depends where you are as a football team. ... Everything gets evaluated. We have a schedule laid out for a whole season, but it does adjust.
  • (On Aaron Rodgers dealing with changing parts) Aaron is playing great football. He does a great job in the preparation phase of getting guys acclimated, getting guys on the same page with the offense. ... A lot of player interaction, a lot of player-to-coach interaction.
  • (On mistakes against Kansas City) A lot of it is what I saw live. I think we're doing a lot more good things than things that need to be correcting. We have not graded the tape yet. We came in this morning and focused on the 49ers. We'll grade the Chiefs tape later in the week.
  • (On the fourth quarter surge by the Chiefs) We were in the situation a number of times last year in four or five home games. You have to grade the tape the same way regardless of the scoreboard. You definitely evaluate it the same.
  • (On Letroy Guion) We have the whole week to do something. Our history will tell you that we will take the whole week.
  • (On Kennard Backman) Ready to go. He will get more opportunities this week. We'll see how the week of preparation goes and what his role will be.
  • (On Joe Thomas' path to the defense) It's tough for every team when you get down to cutting to 53. This year was probably the biggest challenge that I think I've ever been a part of with that. There's a lot of conversation the last couple days, and this is how it worked out. I'm just glad Joe's back.

Few snips of Whiner goings on:

Report: CB Wright wants out of San Francisco

Shareece Wright, one of San Francisco's more high-profile offseason acquisitions, is reportedly angling for a trade or to be released after being inactive for the Niners' first three games.

Vernon Davis left the San Francisco 49ers' 47-7 loss on Sunday with a strained knee and the former Pro Bowl tight end did not return, though coach Jim Tomsula said the injury did not seem "too bad" a day later.

"But we will keep getting it checked," Tomsula said.

Other Niners to get dinged up included inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who admitted after the game he took a hit on his reconstructed left knee.

Seems they have to make some sort of move. They requested and were given a roster exemption, but only until Friday.

The 49ers are going to try and pound the Packers with the run game.  What else can they try to do? Their QB can only throw inside the numbers but they do have a very good RB and the QB can run.

If Crappyneck throws more than 20 times then the Packers have a big lead and all is well. If he throws 18 times then  the game will probably be closer than many expect, but I think GB still wins by 10 or more.

Green Bay β€” The following is a summary of Packers coach Mike McCarthy's pre-practice news conference on Wednesday morning:

  • (On Davante Adams) He won't go through the practice structure today. He will be part of the rehab group.
  • (On Jeff Janis) Jeff Janis is doing a heck of a job. He's definitely making the leap you want to see in the second year. ... He's also done a very good job on special teams. ... As a receiver, he goes right in there. We don't have to change anything when he's in there.
  • (On Randall Cobb in the red zone) Randall is just a heck of a football player. It's important for us to continue to find ways to get him the football regardless of where we are on the football field.
  • (On Aaron Rodgers running read option) That's a scheme question. I don't want to answer scheme questions. He makes too much money to run the option.
  • (On calling a timeout on a punt) It was a formation issue that we were having.
  • (On whether he would have noticed that as a play caller) Good question. I don't know. ... There's times at the end of a series where you're involved in something, so you may not catch something that quick.
  • (On the 49ers defense) It's really two things. They've had a lot of personnel changes since the last time we played them two years ago. And it's also a different coordinator. ... Lots of different scheme there.
  • (On Jim Tomsula) I knew Jim. I would say he's a good four years younger than I was. I remember when he was coming up through grade school and I was in high school. ... He was a good player in college. He had some injuries and so forth. Then he went into the coaching profession. ... He's obviously worked his way up this profession.
  • (On Kaepernick) He's a dynamic player. Obviously we've had some issues with him in the past. They've gone back to more of their read option. He can make all the throws. He's a big, athletic guy. He's a different type of quarterback.
  • (On current run defense against Kaepernick) I think the reality is both teams are a little different than the last time we played them. We have a good plan.
  • (On Quarless' injury) Trying to get away from the helmet-to-helmet hits. I think you see the progress being made to abide by the rules.
  • (On starting fast) A win at San Francisco and I would say we complete the fast start. The first quarter of the season is the focus. To get to 4-0 would accomplish that.
  • (On defensive improvement) A little of what we had last year. You get to the point in the game where you have a sizable lead, and the opposing offense has their most production in the fourth quarter. We discussed it in the offseason, we need to do a better job finishing games.
  • (On Morgan Burnett's health) I'll have a better sense of that tomorrow. Today's practice is we've got a lot of walk-through stuff. ... Everything is teaching speed. ... We've had two really physical football games. We need to be smart.
