May be just me, but I think this is significant.

I think this is great news for our DL, and our secondary. Datone Jones is really playing well, and it will be good for him to keep the momentum going. That was one hell of a hit he took from Thomas. Glad he is OK.

Some roster moves.

@jasonjwilde: With Andrew Quarless out with a knee injury, #Packers sign TE Blake Annen to practice squad, put LB James Vaughters on PS injured list.

@jasonjwilde: #Packers now have two healthy TEs on 53 (R.Rodgers, K.Backman), two TEs on practice squad (Annen, Justin Perillo). Perillo was on 53 in '14.

And more. Q using the one spot.

@jasonjwilde: #Packers announce that they've placed TE Andrew Quarless on injured reserve with the designation to return.

@jasonjwilde: NFL's IR/DTR rules say a player can practice after 6 weeks, play after 8. Can only use that destination one time, so #Packers' now used up.

Tom Silverstein of the JSO sees it the same way. As do I. Shows how roster spots are being stretched with the Datone, Guion suspensions. Now watch Quarless get suspended when he comes back.

@TomSilverstein: Hard to believe #Packers wasted that designation on Quarless. What if a starter gets hurt? Cobb was hurt in Week 6 when they used it in '13.

@TomSilverstein: IR/DTR can be used up until mid-season with the possibility of getting someone back for the playoffs. It's a gamble.

@TomSilverstein: Quarless is eligible to practice after 6 weeks and play after 8, assuming he's healthy at that time. Eight weeks would be before Bears game.

@RobDemovsky: #Packers used IR/DTR tag on Quarless cuz his knee will take the full 6 weeks to recover. Gives him 2 weeks to practice. No surgery needed.

Yes, but none of the "Did Not Participate" guys played much of / or any of the game Monday night & Jones and Guion could be available the entire game. Not as bad as it l;looks.

They'd rather use the return-tag on Quarless than cut one of them

Or they could have just IR'ed him. Period. In 3 games. 1 target. 1 catch.

Maybe it say's something about the quality of TE's GB has available to them rather than the other 52.

I'm surprised they used it on him, a little. They are probably figuring anyone else they might have wanted to use it for they would just keep on the roster anyway. No real harm. Plus, Quarless may yet become a factor late in the season and playoffs.

Gotta say, this team is about as committed and loyal to their players as a team can be. They've really had Quarless' back.

After giving it some thought I can see why they used it. Like Satori said, don't want to let a young prospect go. It is the thinnest spot on the roster and they clearly don't want to let him go or put him down for the season. Rodgers has always spoken highly of Q as has MM. Lots of young blood at that position and they also probably want his vet voice to be heard in the room and on the sidelines.

Not as high on his blocking as others have expressed although next to RichRod he's Mark Bavaro. They used Josh Walker as the 2nd tight end on running downs after Q went down and I can see him and/or JC Tretter being deployed there.

It is super smart roster management. And I agree with you. This may be the best team they have assembled top to bottom.

Floridarob.....

If he's a douche-bag (which he is) for doing what he (allegedly) did, are you such a homer that you hope that what happens is what you describe?

Shame on you.

i dont know much about what he did other than he shot a gun up in the air and acted like a big bad ass. But I did figure the league would impose a suspension at some point this season. I figured it would have been settled by now similar to Guions.

my question was more generic about the suspension and if it could run at the same time as the IR designation.

And yes, I am a very big homer.

Agree with Satori on the balance of the roster and where they could take a hit. They likely need the spot for for ST 'cause Backman will be in the O game plan now.

Also, another factor the family-focused Packers might be considering is Q recently lost his daughter. Full IR would almost be like exile. I know IR'd players are around the facilities, but they aren't in the team plans for the season. He will be healthy enough in 6 weeks so he is still very much in their plans. Being around the team is significant right now.

I remember this one time after my wife miscarried, I went to a club and fired a gun after some women didn't like my advances.

Can you tell I ain't feeling it for Quarless?

Every time I see a roster and/or a PS move, it makes me think of TT's quote of the roster is always fluid (paraphrased).

Using the IR-DTR on Quarless is a gamble, but it's a calculated one. I see it as making maximum use of roster rules and allowing flexibility as the season progresses.

Agreed. And Rodgers himself made some pro-Quarless comments this summer too

Wilde:  "You have a history of seeing talent in your young guys maybe before the rest of us do. I feel like the first one was James Starks in 2010, if I remember correctly. Not to put undue pressure on any of them, but are there a few young guys who’ve caught your eye during the offseason that have you intrigued/excited?"

Rodgers:  "I’d say the two guys who’ve jumped out to me just in the workouts, and one of them is not a young guy – I mean, he’s still younger than I am – but Andrew Quarless has had a great offseason. I think he’s really, something clicked in for him at the end of last year and he’s been taking the jump."

Kiel, I agree with your anti-turd comments 100 % as far as who they bring in.

BUT, the Packers have taken chances on guys who they deemed redeemable, including the ones they were right about ( Jolly) and the ones they were rong about ( Koren Robinson)

These players aren't choir boys but when it comes to a street fight, Max McGee favored the whiskey drinkers. Can't say I disagree.

We don't come from their backgrounds, so its kinda tough to cast aspersions

Dum ? surely. But if Aaron is in his corner, I'll take his word for it 'cause that dude won't tolerate any BS on this team

OK, this joke is having the same impact on me as a Floridarob joke. Just call me politically correct and move on.

Correct. My issue with Q's decision making was being in Miami hitting up women with a loaded handgun with a very pregnant wife at home.

Over the top point was when he hid the gun in a potted plant.

I admire GB for taking care of their own but the guy is a complete moron.
