My final thought on Kaepernick and Frisco, I think what we saw clearly yesterday is that both Alex Smith and Kaepernick were playing behind the best offensive line in football in 2011-2013. That line has lost some major pieces and now Kaepernick is finding out what life is like behind a mediocre line.  They lost 3 Pro Bowl level players in the O-Line alone from the "glory days", and it definitely showed yesterday.

One thing I always felt during the games the Pack lost to Kaepernick from 2012-2013 was that he just wasn't getting much pressure from the Pack at all during those losses.  Even when he did, he was so fast that the Pack just couldn't deal with his scrambling.

I don't think Kaepernick is a terrible player, but he definitely isn't a great player either.  He was a product of a great system, similar to the Washington Redskins of 1983-1992 who won 3 Super Bowls with 3 different QBs and had journeyman QBs like Jay Schroeder and Mark Rypien look like world beaters at times.  The 49ers system wasn't quite at that level, but the combination of an awesome offensive line and great scheme by Harbaugh and Co. maximized their talent for that 3 year period.  Harbaugh and that great offensive line are just a memory now, and Kaepernick is going to see that he had it pretty easy during those years, and it's going to be much harder for him from this point forward.

Yesterday, in just 1 game, the Pack probably had more combined pressures/sacks on Kaepernick than they had in the 3 losses to Kap combined.

I’d like to see the offense bring back the quick hitting stuff with Barclay and Bakhtiari’s struggles, especially against St. Louis.  With Jordy and Adams out, seems like their receivers are better at the short stuff anyway.  Makes sense to me to relieve some pressure on the OL by running Jones deep, with Cobb, Montgomery and Rodgers short.

Also, kind of a random thought I heard on Denver sports radio last week but thought it might be applicable to Green Bay.  They’re saying the Broncos aren’t using the RB screen game b/c on a RB screen, you let the pass rush through and likely let your QB get hit before releasing the ball.  Well the Broncos can’t let Manning get hit, so they aren’t running it with RB’s and running that WR bubble screen instead.  I wonder if that’s a similar thought for Green Bay with their lack of RB screen game.

Quarterback: Aaron Rodgers, Packers (+4.9)

This isn’t his first winning of this award, and most likely not his last. He had just five off-target balls (of his 10 incompletions, two were dropped and three were throwaways) all game as he waltzed the Packers past the 49ers.

Right, especially since he played his "worst" game of the year yesterday & still has a 99.2 passer rating.

Give the Niners credit. Their defense came to play yesterday.

I expect to get every teams best shot the rest of the way. We're at the top of the mountain now & everyone wants a piece.

Here's the rest of them. No idea how the hell PFF pulls a plus 4.9 out of their ass for this week. Is this like a make up call Refs do?

Green Bay Packers

– With the grade everyone wants to check this week, QB Aaron Rodgers (+4.9) made a series of big time throws and kept the errors to a minimum. Only downgraded on two of his 32 attempts, Rodgers pushed his game grade well above the average with a handful of jaw-dropping throws. His TD was one of those—on the move, and threaded to an adjusted route in the back of the end zone—as was his perfectly placed, but dropped, stutter-go to open the game.

– OLB Nick Perry (+1.1) has posted significant positives as a pass rusher in back-to-back games. He hasn’t shown consistency, so keep an eye out to see if he can carry this momentum through next week. Highlighting his day’s work was a second-quarter sack in which he swatted Joe Staley’s hands and burst around the edge to reach Colin Kaepernick.

— The struggles of RT Don Barclay (-2.2) have been well documented, but after a Week 2 performance that saw him equally bad in the pass and run games, and a Week 3 showing that magnified his run game troubles, it was back to the pass protection issues in Week 4. Barclay entered the game with 15 hurries allowed, but hadn’t let anyone get to the QB. That changed this week as he was charged with three sacks and a hit to go along with one more hurry to add to his pile.

Top Performers:

QB Aaron Rodgers (+4.9)

RG T.J. Lang (+3.3)

HB Eddie Lacy (+2.5)

CB Sam Shields (+2.1)

WR James Jones (+2.5)

The 49ers defense took these away yesterday. Many times AR looked to get rid of it quickly, but the quick routes were covered. Smart DCs are playing two deep safties, & press coverage  on our wideouts. They are daring us to run the ball, which we did for 162 yards. However, by not giving us the big play in the passing game, the defense is taking their chances that we will not score TDs in the Red Zone. I think this is why we saw Monty & Cobb in the backfield some yesterday, an attempt to get them in the open field, which we could not do via the passing game.

The majority of Rodgers passes yesterday were between the numbers. I believe two were just off center. Not counting the ones he threw directly at Micah Hyde when Micah was trying to talk to Masthay.

The receivers had to expand their catch zone +/- 3.75" last week on several errant throws.

Hard to believe people think stats tell the entire story.

49ers cut Shareece Wright today.

SF signed Wright to a 1 year FA deal in March. $850k. But. They also gave him a $1.5 million dollar signing bonus along with a $25k per game active roster bonus. 49ers didn't active Wright to the roster once through the first 4 weeks.

So. The 49ers gave Wright $1.5 million to do absolutely nothing then cut him 1 month into the season after he asked to be cut over playing time.

Trent Baalke everyone!
