I think if TT and MM interview him and he's willing to try a fresh start away from the bright lights after his NFL suspension, it could be a possibility because he can play the game. As long as there's no draft picks exchanged and he signs a low-ball contract at first.

But I just don't see him passing the TT/MM test.

I would not.  If you draft a turd, you get to deal with the consequences.  If that means stashing him on your roster simply to keep him away from someone else, then that's the price you pay for drafting said turd in the first place.  Not to mention, I'm not sure how you could possibly put objective criteria together to apply the Turd Compensatory Clause fairly.

The draft is all about projection as we know.  That includes projecting how a guy is going to play on the field, how he's going to fit into an organization's culture and of course how he's going to handle himself away from work.  If you're willing to roll the dice on a piece of crap, then you have to be ready to pay the price if/when the poop hits the fan.

Interesting conversation and makes me appreciate Harlan even more. He put football guys in place who try to put an emphasis on "good guys" and locker room chemistry.

Conversely, makes me wonder what deal Murphy made (and with whom) that he keeps pushing the #4 jersey retirement when: a) the fans seem mostly apathetic about it and; b) the principal seems disinterested or is still the jilted 15 yo bitch.

Agree with JJSD.

I would NOT be okay with allowing teams a do over for drafting a head case. If we allow that, then why not allow for a do over for a pick who ends up chronically injured (see Jamal Reynolds)? Or a re-do for a guy a team took who doesn't practice and is a lazy turd? I mean really, where does it end then?

Aldon Smith is a very talented player when his heads on straight. Well worth his draft position. Now he's got substance issues and mental health problems. Perhaps those were apparent all along. And if they were, then that's a risk SF took and that risk is entirely on them.

I'll admit the compensatory draft pick for suspending turds may not be the best option. But the NFL has to take a stronger stance on taking out the trash. Philly wanted no part of DeSean Jackson any longer. 5-6 teams had visits set up in 24 hours. Yes he's going to be someone else's headache but he's still an NFL image headache. There's plenty of crappy GMs willing to give guys like DeSean a contract. Aldon would be no different if SF cut him loose (I don't think they will)

Maybe a better direction is to take away a draft pick in the round a player was chosen if the NFL tosses that player out of the league?

Some really good points raised though after my initial post though.

It really makes you wonder if Smith has some type of mental imbalance issue going on because his collective behavior has been a little odd.  I'm not suggesting he's Demetrius Underwood but his actions seem to be out of character even for your typical spoiled turd athlete.

Don't worry though the NFL will figure it all out.  After they get done addressing the height of goalposts and post TD celebrations and those important issues

For the record, I wanted Jolly gone, but I am glad TT and MM showed more patience than what I had.

We give our Turds multiple chances.....

Using purple drank may betray a shocking lack of taste, but it doesn't make one a turd.

It never ceased to amaze me how many people wanted Jolly to be locked up for years because he wanted to alter his brain chemistry in a way they didn't approve of.
