@BadgerFootball: Statement on #Badgers head coach http://t.co/lA9MgvP66F
Here's more:
Interesting. Kind of ironic that after a 59-0 defeat, a firing/resignation would be in order at just about any top program...but this is an interesting twist.
If this job offer didn't materialize in the last couple days--and was in the works for the last couple weeks, say--maybe THIS helps to partially explain the (apparent) TOTAL LACK OF PREPARATION for the Big Ten title game?
Not sure if I like(ed) the guy, but the instability of two coaches in 3 years has gotta hurt.
Muschamp anyone? :-)
Can we keep Aranda?
What about Paul Chryst?
Yep. Bump up Aranda. Or call Mr. Chryst.
Geez. How is this a step up unless they're dumping piles of cash on the guy?
Two coaches in three years could **** up the program, especially if they start changing systems again or recruits start to decommit.
Bevell with gunslinger at his side.
Barry will discuss tonight.
@McMurphyESPN: Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez will hold a 6:15 p.m ET news conference to discuss coaching situation

Same here, OSU is not a better job, he must have felt real uncomfortabe in Madtown. Chyst would look good to me, I saw were Michigan may be interested in him. Got to get some stability back in Badgerland.
is Barry coaching the bowl game
@BobbyBigWheel: Gary Andersen was frustrated with Wisconsin's admissions policies, just like most University of Minnesota students.
Bret Bielema II?
I know folks who work in the UW Athletic Dept., and each of them have told me in unguarded moments (usually after a bunch of drinks) that Alvy is about as pompous and bombastic as they come. I'm wondering if as a boss he's just a total dick.
Many would be O.K. with Bevell but with as many as 10 NFL head coaches could be fired at the end of this season I think Bevell may wait to see what happens on that front. IIRC he already has had a couple of NFL interviews so he may think he is closer to the NFL than the BigTen. Paul Chryst would be outstanding. Chryst + Aranda = BigTen Championship.
I am surprised too, good point about the similarities to a 'firing'.
Barry had to know this was coming, wouldn't he?
I was trying to warm up to Gary, but too many times he made what I would consider bush-league mistakes. I love Aranda and hope he stays, his defense was a ton of fun to watch. Through the talk after the loss, one that I heard brought up a few times was that UW didn't have the personel to play his defense. Also, the talking heads brought up the possibility that UW's restrictions for admission were a part of the problem with getting atheletes ala the $EC and Ohio Slate.
Chryst would be cool, I liked his offense... who else? Could we get a big enough name in that would tolerate having Barry hover over him?
The whole recruiting thing worries me too. Two coaches in 3 years isn't a good thing. Will we have kids de-commit? What about consistency in the athelete you want/need for a system?
Lots of questions here.
Also, I hope Barry coaches the club for the bowl game, but he hasn't indicated anything... yet.
Chryst + Aranda + better players = Championships
I don't want UW to cough up another $184k for a one-game loss. I'm actually starting to wonder about Alvy as much as I am anyone else. Generally speaking, when people start to show a pattern of leaving, you need to look at who is hiring them and managing them.
Yup. I had the same thought...
GO GET DAN COMPERS!
Harbaugh......
WTF has Al Golden ever done? I remember his name from the last round, and I think he sucks.
Here's my guy:
Doesn't Anderson have a history of bolting after short tenures? Seems he left his last gig very unexpectedly as well.

No way that is a better job. No way.

"I'm not surprised," a source close to the UW program said of Andersen's sudden departure. "Not surprised at all.
"He is a west coast guy and he didn't adjust to Wisconsin."
One potential candidate that is sure to draw attention is former UW offensive coordinator Paul Chryst, who is in his third season as head coach at Pittsburgh.
âI thought Paul would surface here or Nebraska,â the source said. âWhat did you think when he didnât take the Nebraska job?
âI think Paul knew this was in play.â
Local Milwaukee sports radio wondering if they'd go... Can you just imagine?
From the news conference---
more coming....
Barry looked pretty stunned/annoyed. Pretty obvious he had no idea this was coming.

Once again the Milwaukee media scoops the Madison media...
IMHO, as an outsider, Chryst seems like a solid replacement. I say this based solely on the fact that John Settle, a guy who I regard as one of the finest RB coaches and human beings I've ever known, speaks highly of him.
Also, again as an outsider, I think you can do better than GA.
Barry does seem a bit miffed. At the questions or situation, unclear.
End of news conference.
Three things have come up the last three years (some mentioned already)
1) Tighter enrollment restrictions
B) Assistant pay
& Barry
I'm thinking GA didn't love it in Madison, and some combination of these three things were involved. I'm suspicious Barry might be a backseat driver, but that is nothing by speculation.
Higher the North Dakota State guy, he is used to the cold, recruits pretty damn good with limited resources, seems like a pretty good coach.

Same here.
People that talk on their cell phones while flying are full of themselves.
Barry said this "will be my last hire" to fill this HC. Whether that means he wants some sort of assurance whomever he hires is in this for the long haul or whether that means Barry ain't staying much longer...
But regardless, this program needs stability.

No! No no no no no no no no!!!
