Dating back to 2014, Green Bay has outscored its opponents, 134-24, in the first quarter at Lambeau Field, and has held double-digit leads in eight of 11 games. The Packers have held their opponents scoreless in the first quarter in eight of 11 contests.

  • The Packers’ 20 sacks this season are their most through five games since 21 in 2010. The 20 are also tied with 1970 for fourth most by Green Bay since team sacks began to be recorded in 1963 behind only 1978 (23), 2001 (21) and 2010.
  • Green Bay has registered a sack in 40 consecutive regular-season games, a franchise record and the longest current streak in the league.
  • The Packers look to allow 10 or fewer points for the third game in a row. It would be the first time they accomplished the feat since 2010 (0 at NYJ, / 7 vs. DAL,  / 3 at MIN, ).

The Green Bay Packers have signed TE Justin Perillo to the active roster from the practice squad, placed S Sean Richardson on injured reserve and signed DB Kyle Sebetic to the practice squad. The transactions were announced Wednesday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.

Perillo (puh-RILL-oh), a 6-foot-3, 250-pound second-year player out of the University of Maine, was originally signed by the Packers as a non-drafted free agent on May 12, 2014. He began the 2014 season on Green Bay’s practice squad before being elevated to the active roster on Nov. 15, where he spent the rest of the season, appearing in two games. Perillo has spent the first five weeks of the 2015 season on the Packers’ practice squad. He will wear No. 80 for Green Bay.

Sebetic (suh-BET-ick), a 6-foot, 197-pound first-year player out of the University of Dayton, was originally signed by the New York Giants as a non-drafted free agent on June 3, 2014. He was released by the Giants on Aug. 26, 2014, and spent a week on their practice squad in November. Sebetic signed with Green Bay on March 25, 2015, but was released on Sept. 1. The Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, native was a captain at Tremper High School in Kenosha, Wis. He will wear No. 41 for the Packers

The big thing that worries me about the offense is the lack of speed right now. There is no one getting any snaps that will scare anyone deep. Neither Lacy or Starks is a burner and watching Richard Rodgers play TE is like watching a slower version of Bubba Franks (without the blocking ability). Richard Rodgers is a good #2 TE, but he's not even in the same galaxy as the league's top TEs.

James Jones never was fast and has lost a step and Cobb and Montgomery are both slot guys - quick but not deep threats. Adams isn't a burner either.

Other than scheming to get Cobb or Montgomery favorable matchups in the slot, there isn't much separation by the WRs and TEs. If they don't establish some kind of deep threat, teams are going to continue to do what the Rams did and make the receivers win matchups. Jordy got separation on guys, maybe Adams will, but no other outside receiver does. Not every team has the DL the Rams do, but those that do may be our playoff opponents.

You can maybe get away without a deep threat at WR if your TE can stretch the field down the middle and vice versa. But if you don't have either it's likely going to eventually bite you.

While on paper I would agree with you 100% we just keep seeing Mother****er Jones making amazing deep ball catches.

It's nice to have the deep threat but this offense is so multi-faceted it isn't necessary and still Jones leads the league on deep plays.

I also think you severely overstating the greatness of Gurley in comparison to the Packers running game without assessing the style of players the injuries on both sides of the line that made Gurley the next AP, all stats and no rings.

Dikrod slower than Bubba?  That's just ****ing stupid.

Henry -

1. I agree Jones makes deep catches, but several of them have been off of free plays (at least two of his TDs) and several of the others, including the TD on Sunday, required a perfect throw into a window with very little separation. Jones is a great guy to have and his chemistry with Rodgers is outstanding, but he's not going to stretch a defense deep.

2. Gurley is a better all around player than AP. Gurley actually was very effective picking up the blitz. AP has been on the bench on 3rd down throughout his career because of his unwillingness/inability to block. An offense with AP has to be centered almost exclusively on AP running. Gurley can continue to contribute even if he doesn't get the ball every play.

3. I had to look this up, but Bubba Franks ran about a 4.8 before he was drafted (his fastest run was timed at 4.66). Richard Rodgers ran a 4.87. Here's a profile immediately after Franks was drafted and a short blurb from jsonline about Richard Rodgers.

"Franks was timed at a 4.66 in the all-important 40-yard dash recently, and GM Ron Wolf said he ran a 4.8 40 for the Packers. Wolf also liked Franks' exposure to serious competition with the Hurricanes, where he was named a first-team All-American by The Sporting News and Football News."

"Because this was the Packers' calculated gamble. In the midst of adding weight, Rodgers ran a 4.87 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine. He's no burner. Projecting a new-wave tight end is not easy, as Fontenot has said."

Oh, yeah???? You might be right. Rivers will get the ball out quickly to the guys in Dark Blue & Gold... I call 7 and 5.

Too funny.

Really, I think SD's OL is so bad that Rivers is going to get completely pummeled. He'll be forcing throws, and has been known to throw some ducks. You know our front 7 is going to be licking their chops to pad stats. Also long as we play solid run D we ought to be good. Thinking this is going to be a pick party for our secondary Sunday afternoon.

I think we will hit him a lot. Just not sure we will sack him that many times. He will throw some picks, but I doubt he will throw it up 5 times. Rives is not Nick Foles.

Speaking of Foles, remember the year he had only 2 picks. He threw the same kind of passes he was throwing on Sunday, but DBs around the league kept dropping picks. It was bizarre.

Who the **** put the words, Large Antenna under my handle.

NT B.J. Raji (groin) not practicing but must be doing OK, as he was dancing a bit during warmups.

Trying to prove to the ladies that he is ready for "action".

"Hey Ladies, nothing wrong with my groin".

I guess Rivers isn't getting rid of the ball all that quickly. Just pretend my posts are a Fedya blog on 375 year old movies.

Me!

Let me know if you want it changed.

Yes. I was the instigator

Rivers might be the best QB they have faced but that OL is bad - really bad.  Their defense isn't anything to write home about either but they do play more man coverage and GB struggled with that against the Rams

Expect Rodgers to bounce back this week and something like 30-17 GB
