@BrianCarriveau

MM on James Starks: He's picked it up. That's what competition does. ... Our running back competition top to bottom has never been this good

@BrianCarriveau

MM on Greg Van Roten: I think he's really come on in last week. I'm happy in his development.

@BrianCarriveau

MM on Bryan Bulaga: I don't see him playing this year.

@BrianCarriveau

MM on fights at practice: Not very smart. Punching a guy when he's wearing a helmet, that's not a smart thing.

@BrianCarriveau

MM on Randall Cobb being limited at practice: Just being cautious with his bicep.

@BrianCarriveau

MM on Vince Young: He's on Day 2 in a new offense. One of the reasons why we signed him is because he knows how to play quarterback.

@BrianCarriveau

MM on Mike Neal: He passed his physical, so we worked him in a limited fashion. Mike is a defensive lineman.

@BrianCarriveau

MM on Eddie Lacy: Hamstring. I have no reason to be concerned, long-term.

For those thinking it's just GB that's cursed with injuries thus far:

Saints lose Joe Morgan, Kenyon Coleman for season

Carolina v New Orleans

The Saints need to change their gris-gris or something.

According to Katherine Terrell of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, an already injury plagued team got more bad news Wednesday, as wide receiver Joe Morgan and defensive end Kenyon Coleman will be lost for the season.

Coleman has a pectoral tear, and Morgan has a torn meniscus and a partially torn ACL, and will undergo surgery today.

Coleman’s loss is tough for a front seven that wasn’t deep to begin with, as he was brought in to help stabilize things during the transition to coordinator Rob Ryan’s 3-4.

Yeah, at some point the WR conversation has to switch to Myles White, Tyrone Walker, and Hines.

The media, Rodgers, and the coaches have all been slathering complements on the play of Tyrone Walker, and also of White, but to a lesser degree.

And Hines has already passed the most important media test. He really really really really BIIIIG. Lol.

Indeed

Its pretty easy to freak -out the small-brains, and since the Packers= Ratings, they'll happily run with it

The Sky is Falling !!!  Film at 11 !!!

But Vegas isn't stupid, GB already moved from 12-1 to 8-1 on winning the Super Bowl, apparently those wise guys don't watch TV

Bulaga out, Nelson hurt, Cobb hurt, Lacy hurt. AR falling in fantasy drafts. "Major cause for concern in GB"

I swear the network goes months without mentioning the Packers and then this is the kind of coverage we get.

They must have read this thread and figured this is what appealed to the kids.

They've run the Cooper story dry and need to fill time.

______
Well, I have to admit, given our injury problem the past few seasons, I'm nervous about it.  I'm starting to wonder if we can EVER count on the following guys to

be healthy for the long-run:

-James Starks (granted he's good now and looked good on family night.  And I'm excited about Lacy, so we have that going for us, which is good)

-Mike Neal

-Jordy (which REALLY makes me nervous)

-DuJuan Harris

I hope I'm wrong.  I have been before. Twice.

MM: T.J. Lang's back is bothering him today. He had a pretty good collision yesterday at practice.

Andrew Datko has a concussion. First documented one of camp for team I believe

MM: My goal with Vince is to play him in the game tomorrow.

Returning to Practice

Running back Eddie Lacy, hamstring

Commentary: Take the fact that Lacy returned to practice with a grain of salt. According to any number of reports, he took part in Thursday’s warm-up but nothing else. It’s a positive that Lacy returned in any capacity, but the Packers may choose to err on the side of caution with a player they expect to play a large role in the regular season.

Dropping Out of Practice

Offensive lineman T.J. Lang, back

Commentary: McCarthy said Lang β€œhad a pretty good collision yesterday at practice.” Don Barclay took Lang’s reps as the starting right guard on Thursday at practice and will likely play in his place on Friday if Lang misses the game.

Offensive lineman Andrew Datko, concussion

Commentary: In what would appear to be the first documented concussion suffered during Packers training camp this year, Datko missed practice on Thursday. Considering the NFL’s stringent guidelines for returning from a concussion, it’s highly doubtful he’ll play in the game Friday night.

Offensive lineman Lane Taylor, personal reasons

Commentary: Taylor indicated on Twitter that his wife was going into labor. That bodes well that his absence is only temporary and he’ll be able to play on Friday night.

Still Out

The following players’ status hasn’t changed (anticipated return in parentheses):

  • Wide receiver Jordy Nelson, knee (regular-season opener)
  • Cornerback Casey Hayward, hamstring (a couple weeks, as of 7/26)
  • Cornerback Tramon Williams, knee (a couple weeks, as of 7/30)
  • Running back DuJuan Harris, knee (two or three weeks, as of 7/30)
  • Offensive lineman Derek Sherrod, leg (undetermined, on his β€œlast hurdle,” according to McCarthy)
  • Wide receiver Charles Johnson, knee (undetermined)
  • Wide receiver Kevin Dorsey (undetermined)
  • Tight end Andrew Quarless, quad (undetermined)
  • Tight end Ryan Taylor, knee (week to week, as of 8/6)
  • Safety Sean Richardson, neck (undetermined)
  • Defensive lineman Jerel Worthy, knee (undetermined)
  • Offensive lineman J.C. Tretter, ankle (regular season at the earliest)
