Heard from a friend on the training staff that he may have torn his ACL.  I didn't watch the scrimmage myself and haven't seen it on any blogs, twitter, or media outlets. If true, we may need Bahktiari to really step it up.

In all my years of watching football, I've only seen one guy walk off the field unassisted after blowing his ACL, that was Mark Tauscher back in 2002. That, combined with the fact that it's been almost 24 hours without any news leads me to dismiss this.

There have been internet articles about one person or another getting a major injury.  None of which were true.  This could be another of those - although the origin would appear to be different in this case.

Oh sh*t.

LT Bryan Bulaga suffered knee injury Saturday night. According to sources, team hoping for best, fearing the worst.

EDIT:  McGinn has a blog post up now with more info, http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/218310911.html

Sources said Bulaga was hurt at some point during the intra-squad scrimmage Saturday night at Lambeau Field.

He was walking afterward and was seen in the middle of the team’s huddle after the scrimmage.

However, Bulaga reported a problem with one of his knees while in the locker room and received treatment. The players were off Sunday, when the medical staff continued to run tests in an attempt to determine the extent of the damage.

Sources said the Packers had concern that the injury was a torn ligament and would turn out to be season-ending.

Bulaga played 30 snaps from scrimmage during the full-contact practice. He took a nasty fall on the first series and got up slowly, and he appeared to be a bit gimpy and limped to a degree at various other times.

Still, Bulaga didn’t miss a turn with the No. 1 offensive line. ...

I guess next year we need to draft 23 offensive linemen. This is getting goddamm ridiculous.  I swear to god our guys can get hurt getting off the bus. You would think that at least ONE year we could get lucky...

Wow, I was trying to find reasons to dismiss this, and then the bad news finally came. Great scoop, Wisconsin Johnson. I'm not about to allow myself to be remotely positive about the diagnosis. We all know the way this works by now, he's going to injured reserve.

The Packers would be fools if they expect Bulaga to be anything other than a plan B in 2014. The guy has a lot of talent, but it's pretty obvious by now that he's made out of glass. 4 missed games in 2011, 9 last year and now all of this season. If David Bakhtiari or someone else doesn't step up this year, they're going to have to target a left tackle next year.

Losing him creates such a domino effect across the entire OL. First of all, their depth takes a hit a bit more and now they could be looking at having Newhouse back at LT(ugh) with a rookie at RT

Let's face it everyone. We knew this was going to happen to someone at some point. There isn't one team in the NFL that won't lose a starter to a season ending injury, so we're not the only ones. Let's just hope we don't have to go down to our 3rd or 4th stringers.

Yeah, guys are going to be lost, but this one is one of the worst that could have happened. Only Rodgers or Matthews going down would have been worse. 51 sacks is unacceptable, and his switch to LT was supposed to be the the first step in getting that turned around. It's not all hopeless now, but it was a big blow.

On family night, a scrimmage, yes the team is snake bit,

While  Newhouse is not the best Left Tackle around at least the Packers have someone who has played the position. Having Newhouse as an experience LT at least gives the Packers time to develop Bakhtiar or time for Sherrod to return.

But this news still sucks.

Agreed.  Just put Bakhtiari there and take your lumps that you're going to take with turnstile Newhouse over there anyway.  At least there's more upside and he can run block.  It's also time to quit screwing around with Barclay at C and put him at RT where it's known that he can function well.  Make Newhouse the swing T and hope he doesn't see the field.

Then, with Tretter already being on the shelf, it's probably time for Ted to watch the waiver wire or perhaps swing a trade for a backup interior OL.

You know that's not going to happen though and we're going to see stoolpot Newhouse whiffing on the Smith boys in game one because they won't want to start a rookie at LT in that game.

Just a devastating injury.  Again.

From Packer Update:

With Bryan Bulaga likely done for the season, here are the top five available offensive tackles: Jammal Brown (ex-Redskins), Jared Gaither (ex-Chargers), Winston Justice (ex-Colts), Sean Locklear (ex-Giants) and Wayne Hunter (ex-Rams). Gaither is probably the best player of that group, but he’d bring some serious baggage. The 27-year-old former Maryland star was accused of faking an injury early last season. “I can’t even look him in the eye,” said one angry teammate after Gaither sat out three games with a back issue that no one could clearly diagnose. He functions pretty well in the running game; passing, not so much. I see Newhouse as a better option and fully expect him to start, the only question is where.

Earlier this week, as I was reading through some of the 'major' injuries that some teams have had, I was thinking that, once again, their new practice rules negotiated during the last CBA was doing nothing in preventing these injuries.

Now that it has hit home, I'm not so snarky about it, but the point is still the same.

I don't know that I can call it a "devastating" injury, but if it's not, it's awful close.

Personally, I hope we try to replace the LT and not abandon the changes implemented during the offseason. Easier said than done, of course, but let's pray this next month yields some positive results.

The easisest wish to make is Daktari steps up. I can't imagine Sherrod all of a sudden being ready to play, and agree that Newhouse is no better than a stop-gap measure. I doubt Barclay could produce at LT, but I bet he would take on the challenge. And I can't see Datko suddenly turning into a stud, so there's no easy answer.

Whatever happens better happen PDQ, though.

It's the Curse of The 1st Rounders. Bulaga, Sherrod, Perry...I guess Jones is as good as gone. Dead Man Walking. Makes me sick. Last year the LB's get devastated. Guess this year it'll be the OL. Wonder what Ken Ruettgers is doing this year?
