You know, with all of the focus on head injuries, I wonder why the league hasn't made knee braces mandatory for linemen. There's so many that get rolled up on, you would think that even if the league didn't make it mandatory, that some teams would just to help prevent this kind of BS. It's not like they're running 40 yards sprints.
Seems like right now Bakhtiari is our best option. Saw some reports saying they thought he was close to overtaking Newhouse at RT, so I don't see our staff thinking Newhouse is a better option at LT. Bakhtiari or sign a veteran, which is just not our philosophy.
It really makes you think of the blessing we had with Cliffy and Tausch in the same draft and being our bookends for all those years.

+1 Don't think I've seen a Badger OL without knee braces for a decade or more. Getting rolled on or crack backed must average 2 times a week if you're a OL. (Probably more if it's your week to play the broncos.)
Wonder what Ken Ruettgers is doing this year?
It is still early into training camp so we know where not to find him.
hahahaha super one CHEEZE.
Yeah, at this point I'd rather see the Pack roll the dice with the rookie at LT. Newhouse is not the answer. It would be a pleasant surprise if Sherrod is ready to contribute at some point and helps the team down the stretch. His injury continues to hurt the team, especially when injuries like this are happening to other guys across the line
In any case, please no Newhouse at LT
Good point Cheeze. Maybe we can put Bacteria at LT and call Tootie Robbins to play RT.

Because linemen are expendable and not the face of the franchise. And there's no political points for folks on Capitol Hill to gain grandstanding over knee braces.
Sucks about Bulaga for sure, but if an injury like this was going to happen better now than 6 weeks into the season. They still have a month to get ready and it's next man up- whether that's Newhouse and then move Barclay to RT or let the rookie Bahktari try to win the spot.
Well, this sucks. I'm sure there will be some decent OLinemen released by other teams after training camp but not sure any will be starting quality.
49ers have already been hit hard by injuries this year too so let's hope ours are kept to a minimum.
It's not the Packers style to go with some outside option at this point with camp underway. LT will either be Newhouse or Bakhtiari at this point. They could bring in an OL for depth, though
Here's hoping that Bak can rise to the challenge and take the LT job by the end of preseason
Next man up.
Well this definitely sucks out loud.
Since he was able to keep playing and able to walk around, it was probably a partial tear of the ACL. But since the ACL does not repair itself from partial tears it still requires re-constructive surgery same as a full tear.
For sure it makes the road ahead much more difficult, but gotta have faith MM and crew will find someway to get at least a satisfactory replacement for LT and decent OL play in general.
The team obviously feels Newhouse isn't the answer at LT or they wouldn't have made the change. I'm fine if they'e forced to move him back there, but Bakhtiari needs to be given every opportunity to prove he's not up to the task before that happens.
It makes me wonder if they don't flip the line back to what it was. IIRC a big part of the flip had to do with getting their best OL playing LT. If Newhouse is back at LT, is the OL stronger this year flipped or in its original state? If they try Bahktiari at LT...same question.

that is exactly what the radio guys were saying this morning.
I agree, next man up, but MAAAAN, is that disappointing.
some day, some year, I want to see what Ted's team is like with ALL his #1 picks playing and healthy for the year...
This is brutal, and there's definitely an argument that he's the biggest blow to the team after #12 and #52. For the sake of trying to stay positive, I guess I'll say it's better to lose him with five weeks before the first game as opposed to first quarter of the SF game. They've got time for things to shake out.
And Newhouse probably has a ceiling of "serviceable" LT, but the team did win 28 games with him at LT over the last two years. A timespan that saw Bulaga miss 13 games. It doesn't end the season before it starts, but it's maddening since it felt like they might have finally turned the corner with the OL.
Time to cue up one of our "extra" DB's and RB's for a trade for an OL.
In 5 years we'll all look back and trade comments about the events that led to Bakhtiari becoming a solid starter at LT for the Packers. Opportunity is a funny thing.
I would expect MM will spend considerable time over the next two weeks looking at Bakhtiari at LT and ask CM3 to unleash hell on him. Dealing with elite edge rushers was really his only knock in the draft. 6'4" 305 that graded out as a 2nd or 3rd in most draft profiles. He's got the measurable to play LT.
I think LT is Bakhtiari's job to win. Next man up.
Depth, man. They're running thin on the OL.
Depth, man. They're running thin
You called it, DH:
@BobMcGinn: The Packers just called off practice scheduled for this afternoon. Have had a run of injuries. Next one is 8:20 a.m. Tuesday in pads.
@RobDemovsky: Packers have just cancelled today's practice and announced there will be no media availability today.
The way things are going, I'm beginning to think the Packers should forfeit their preseason games and not practice again all summer.

Cripes, that makes things sound even worse!
look at it this way guys, at worst, the OL will be as bad as it was last year....
...which was the worst in the NFL...
Well you know a trade or FA signing is extremely unlikely.... So like others have said, it's either Newhouse or the rookie (Bakwhateverthe****). Wonderful...
Wait... Maybe Lang can swing out?
Is it wrong to be just a little upset with Sherrod right about now?
What really is going on with Sherrod? He is either going to retire or be another Flanagan.
Here we go again. This is so frustrating. Bulaga is an injury prone bust. The guy can't stay on the field, but Newhouse just keeps rolling along. So frustrating.
What really is going on with Sherrod? He is either going to retire or be another Flanagan.
Has Sherrod even practiced? I hope he can get back in there.

Has Sherrod ever practiced is the better question.

That's probably because they asked Coach Super-Geenyous to come up with a plan to overcome all of this.
After reading all night about shaving goats' asses and wondering why the 'report' had balloons taped to it from Shakey's, management decided to circle the wagons and make sure that the only people who actually try to map out the next steps are those who put their pants on right-side out and over their underwear.
I don't like the word "exercise" in "team building exercise". Looks like another DL on the way.
As bad as this is, I wouldn't jump off any cliffs yet. The Packers have always managed to score points even with a cobbled-together offensive line (kudos to McCarthy for making chicken salad out chicken sh*t the last couple years). Shift your concern back to defense. If they haven't fixed that, then this doesn't matter.
"The Green Bay Packers spent today crocheting as part of team building activities however reports have surfaced that Mike Neal has punctured his left lung"
C'mon Dr Andrews!!! Tell us it's nothing more than a strain you ACL wizard you!
Let's say there's a partial tear. Bulaga says he feels fine. Does it automatically have to be a season ending surgery? Would some sort of a brace suffice?
