Well, MM made it pretty clear that Sam Shields is likely not coming back, so assuming MM believes Dom was just shorthanded due to injury, that means MM must believe that TT needs to get Dom another CB of Shields' caliber, right?

He is. He has been an NFL head coach twice and a well-renowned defensive coordinator. Still want him %^&#-canned for another 'outstanding football coach.'
Could be that McCarthy doesn't see another coordinator out there that he thinks is an upgrade or that he could work with. The rumor going around is that Wade Phillips was dividing the lockerroom Buddy Ryan style, perhaps McCarthy wants a DC he knows is capable and will maintain the culture. Capable for Capers is arguable right now, but McCarthy seems to think he's the best coordinator available. Hard to argue with a highly successful coach.
MM once again going for the "Welp, let's hope Aaron Rodgers plays perfectly come playoffs and can overcome the incompetence of my buddy Dom" strategy.

He probably is an outstanding coach.....too bad he is a coordinator.
How do we know he hasn't talked to them?
I'm not going to 'read' too much into that statement for now.
I don't consider it a ' vote of confidence' or that his departure is imminent.
If he's still employed by the end of next week, however....

You and I must have the same inside sources. My guy told me Dom's headset isn't even turned on, the players are just out their calling their own defense. When we see him talking he's on the headset he's ordering pizza.

Of course he talks to players....why just last week he told the DB's to get kind of close to Julio Jones.

1st or 2nd year players who saw significant defensive snaps this year: Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry, Jake Ryan, Blake Martinez, Damarious Randall, Quitnon Rollins, LaDarius Gunter.
My crystal ball says Thompson maybe goes after a top flight CB in FA or the draft, but I'm more inclined to believe he goes after front 7 players in the 1st and 2nd rounds.
How about we trade for Eric Berry, that would probably make Dom look like a genus again.

I can't remember when it happened, but there is a link out there about Dom realizing that there is power in talking to his players. Woodson bitched about refusal to make adjustments. Dom told Kevin Greene he didn't have a place for him on his staff. There is a "fire Dom Capers" thread for nearly every year he's been here after the superbowl. He has failed over and over again.

Except Kevin Greene left on his own and obviously wasn't too sore at Dom as Big D was his presenter at his HOF induction. Woodson bitching about adjustments isn't the same as not communicating. You have valid complaints with Dom, these here are not among them.

Then TT is a worse evaluator of defensive talent than Sherman. Guh.
Maybe he is. Some GMs are better at finding some positions than other. John Schneider can't find a quality OL to save his soul. Same for Ozzie Newsome. Kevin Colbert also struggled with that for a long time.
I am resigned to the fact that every season will come down to how well AR plays, and remains healthy, and the defense being what it is. And maybe we can get into a year when the offense does not misfire in post season, as they did in the 2011 and 2016 seasons, and we win shootouts all the way to winning the SB. That's about the only shot at it, unless TT spends on defense in FA this off season. Yeah, right.
Too early to drawn any conclusions about Dom's status. MM saying all the proper things at this stage. I doubt that all the conversation's have happened yet. Even so I'm not sure MM has the stones to cut Capers loose. More likely would create a new position and promote him, Defensive Czar or Master of Defensive Wizardry. This only if TT puts a gun to his head.
