They'll tag him for a year, and give him a chance to play consistently to his potential. Ryan Taylor, DJ Williams and Crabtree are not an improvement. We have far too many needs on defense to spend a draft pick on a pass catching tight end.
Drops, mental mistakes, lack of blocking ability. This was the year of the TE and he wasn't even in the conversation. He's still better than the rest of the guys we have, but we already won a title without him so...

This. His market value will have taken a dive this year, especially after seeing what Graham, Gronk and Hernandez have done in comparison. On top of being injured for two years, his dropsies this year and lack of focus have cost him major bucks. I think TT opens negotiations soon, points out all the downsides, Finley takes a two-year deal at less than franchise tag so he can still prove himself and get the big payday down the road when he's still relatively young.

Either that or TT lets the door hit him in the a** on the way out -- especially after today. And Rodgers may be swinging that door.
Finley was no better than a middle-of-pack TE this year. His game was no where close to the top guys. His concentration lapses all year were inexcusable. And he was supposedly one of the hungry guys after last season.
To be honest, let DJ Williams and Finley battle it out in camp. Because right now, Finley is not the player we have all expected him to be. Good, great at times, and maddeningly bad at times. He drops too many passes, and you don't see Jimmy Graham, or Rob Gronkowski, dropping passes like that.

Williams was raved about during the draft. He's supposedly got the great hands. Well, let's see what he can do. Franchise Finley, or give him an incentive based contract. But by all means, do NOT give up on him.

Remember, Vernon Davis sulked when Singletary rode his ass, and look what he did yesterday.

J Fin is still one of the most impressive, physical tight ends in the league. It would be unwise to give up on him, because as inconsistent as he is right now, guys with his skill set just don't come around too often.
You gotta franchise Flynn and not Finley.

Some team will give us a few 2nds for Flynn.. Finley wont bring back a haul. We should just go into FA with him and make a sensible bid. If someone over pays him.. then that is that.
DJ Williams was inactive more than he was active this year, and it the reason given was because he didn't know the playbook.

Finley this year forced teams to cover us differently and that worked in our favor. If he just shuts his mouth, and plays to his talent, he is worth a franchise tag.

Flynn is not worth 14.5 million, either to us or any other team. He doesn't get franchised for that reason.
Finley's productivity is about right for any tight end on a team that passes 75% of the time. His speed maybe gets him a few more yards (but not after the catch) but TDs and catches are where I'd expect them to be. I would let him walk.
I was disappointed in Finley as well, but not sure if it was his routes or what?

I don't like the QB blaming it on routes all the time. It may be, but reminds me of bert.

Finley, needs to swallow some humble pie and re-dedicate himself to the TEAM.

Yeah, Rodgers may get the blamed for that last incomplete to #88. But if you watch the replay, Finley comes out of his break and stutter steps (for a blink of an eye) and then the pass is catchable but a little out of reach.

Twice it seemed Rodgers threw lasers when he didn't have to: the one to Finley, although if Finley continues running he catches that ball; and the one to Jennings. Rodgers threw it to the wrong side of Jennings, and Jennings was so wide open there was no need to zing it as hard as Rodgers did.

And I agree with whoever said they didn't like to see Rodgers blaming every route on Finley. It does remind me of Favre, and I hope Rodgers is a better leader than that.
At this point I'd like to see him back with a very short term incentive laden contract. If another team offers better, then adios, Senor Finley.

This is coming from a guy that was ready to make him a top paid TE 5 short months ago. Physically he has it all. Mentally, it's just not all there right now.
I'm not sure Finely isn't stopping in the hole in the zone (you see Packer receivers do it all the time, Driver has mastered it) because he was so incredibly uncovered. Or maybe he stopped short. Our QB needs to deliver a better pass than what he did.
I think whether the Packers keep Finley has less to do with Finley's age, ability, potential and production and more to do with whether or not the Packers have an adequate replacement.

If TT and MM think that any combination of Q, Crabby, DJ and Taylor can do it, then he won't be re-signed. At least not for top dollar.

This.
I'm not sure how much Quarless should be in the mix next year. His knee injury could set him back a year. I'm still po'd at the Giant player who jumped on him from the back and collapsed Q's knee.
My guess is he does a tag and trade with Finley, possibly using him as a means to move up in round 1. Finley is a tease and always will be. He will always show just enough to make you think someday he will get it and become dominant, but he will always under achieve.

I think our offense would function much more efficiently with a Jason Witten/Heath Miller type rather than Finley type WR/TE hybrid. A guy that may not be a huge mismatch, but he is reliable.

I think he is...he seems pretty pissed at the press conference when the reporter asked if he felt the team let him down.
Pablo, ,
Classic.
Good riddance Finley!! Way too inconsistent, but I'm with others, a few of those passes were lasers, that would have been GREAT catches. Finley makes some plays, but I have yet to see him really make GREAT plays.
