I have come to appreciate Thompson's approach to building this team, specifically through the draft. But I think even the biggest TT supporter has to concede that TT hesitates when it comes to pulling the trigger in the free agency and trading markets. I'm not saying that he needs to spend money like a drunk sailor (read: Cowboys, Redskins, etc.), but I am a firm believer that championship teams are built through the free agency, trades, AND the draft.

For evidence within the Packer franchise, look no further than the last great Packer GM, Ron Wolf. We never win the '96 Super Bowl if Wolf doesn't pull the trigger on some big moves: signing White and Rison, trading for Favre and Jackson, etc.

I don't understand why TT doesn't pull the trigger more often. When he has made moves in the past, they have frequently worked out: Woodson, Chillar, Pickett, Grant, etc. It's not like TT has been burned that much in those markets.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: this is a good team without any additions, but if we want to become a GREAT team (read: Super Bowl caliber), I think we're going to have to make a move.

I hope TT knows what he is doing.
This line cracked me up..

"With the Packers, part of Schneider's duties was to find and work on potential trades. He would work on deals, similar to the Lynch trade, and then submit them to Thompson. He then often passed."

It's hard to argue against TT as his performance in free agency / trades has been spectacular. Still, as a fan, I see us having a legitimate shot at the Super Bowl this year and would have loved to see him break character for once and take a risk.

The NFC is weak, we are on the cusp, throw your balls on the table and see what happens!
Can't compare Wolf and thompson, different era's. Wolf has said that he could not work in todays NFL.

I think this statement actually supports his approach more than counters it. Trust in Ted and get off the ledge Packer fans.
I don't care what ghetto he came from. If he is willing to come here, be a good citizen & teammate, and produce on the football field, I would welcome him on the Packers.

Rison was a punk when Wolf signed him, but he was a necessary addition to stay in contention. Wolf knew that injuries left us short at a key position, so he made a move. I hope TT does the same. We still have a couple weeks to make it happen.

Seattle has shown a propensity to trade anything for anyone. They've traded picks for Leon Washington, Lendale White and now Marshawn Lynch. Seems like the old Redskins way of doing things, leaving them with just a few picks each draft. I guess we'll see if it works.

They threw a lot of cash at TJ Whosyourmamma, too.

And don't forget the great move they made with the poison pill contract and Nate Burleson to get even with the Vikings. Man, they sure showed them!

And they made the big splash of acquiring Deion Branch. He's the Jordy Nelson of the West!

When pigs fly.

No GM in this league is more tight lipped about this team then TT.

You'd have a better chance winning Powerball tomorrow.
What if that conditional pick is a 3rd, 2nd or even 1st, regardless of the springs in the contingencies? Would a 1st and a 4th be thrilling? How about a 2 and a 4? 3 and a 4? None of those would have 'thrilled' me in the least. The guy was worth a decent draft pick, but not two, but again that depends on what the actual additional pick is. If it's a 5th or lower, then yeah, that would've been worthwhile.

How about we see that actual terms of this trade before forming an opinion?

i'm waiting to see what the conditional pick is, but regardless if lynch goes off for 1750 yards and the pack win a SB do you really care if they had to give up the 32nd pick or 64th in exchange?

Isn't that the point? It's just guessing right now. What if it's totally contingent on production, so Lynch gets huge yards but is a locker room turd and GB craps out at 8-8? We could toss imaginary scenarios out there all day. I'm anxious to see what was actually given up.

Remember that Rodgers wanted them to add Lynch.

Kind of.

Rodgers was specifically asked if we would want Marshawn and his response was "why not?" then went onto to say how they played together and he'd welcome a guy like him on the team. That's a far cry from Favre who out and out campaigned to get Moss and drolled onto any reporter would listen, texted Moss, etc.

Rodgers never brought up Lynch on his own.

As for the trade, no ones even brought up Marshawn wanting to be here. For all we know, TT makes the same offer to Buffalo. Lynch's agent now has two offers to present to Lynch.

Seattle's a big city. Much larger then GB and has clubs, nightlife, and warmer weather then we do. It might have been a factor we just don't know.

None of which TT has much control over. Playing and living in Seattle in January is a far cry from playing in Green Bay, WI.

And Lynch doesn't need to worry about what happens when GB's franchise RB comes back in 2011. Another factor he might have considered if the teams offers were indeed similar.

Ummm, what if Lynch goes off for 1,750 yards and Packers don't win the Super Bowl? Now they are down one premium pick in trying to short up the secondary, o-line and linebacker. Then yes, I would care. This move was hardly a guaranteed Super Bowl win.

I wanted it to happen too but it didn't. I've learned a long time ago not to get to invested in personnel moves b/c what I want rarely happens. I flipped when they took Carroll over Gamble and I was right. I also flipped when they took Barnett instead of Boss Bailey and I was wrong. After those two first round picks I quit investing myself in who the Packers drafted and traded for. Too much frustration.

the favre trade had the jets going to or winning the SB to trigger the 1st.

packers don't win the SB without rison IMO. if the conditional was a 4-5th then TT screwed up here. and lynch has stated he wouldn't mind playing in GB.
