He definitely has an attitude. Rumors were that he did in GB as well and that’s why he wasn’t voted as a captain by his peers last year. F that guy.

Tonyan and Rodgers were on Will Compton's show and Bobby said "When someone comes in here with an ego and is loud and obnoxious they either aren't here for long or stick out like a sore thumb in a bad way".  Rodgers responded with "I can think of a few of those guys that definitely haven't stuck around because of that".

Did feel a bit like they were referencing Z without naming names.

His act wore thin. Tried to be a leader but the more he talked, the more it became obvious that he wasn't very smart.

Mike Daniels?

Wouldn't surprise me. When he was producing and his walk matched his talk, that was one thing. Then he kept yapping and couldn't stay on the field or just plain sucked. That got old fast.

A lot of Vikings observers rather surprised by this move.

Considering his injury was not viewed to be serious, this is a puzzling move for the Vikings. McGill had played extremely well. The idea with the injury settlement without paying him for a single week says that they didn’t see a future for him with the team at all.

I say we vote him as our Captain this year posthumously.

Who knows what the real story is, but assuming Z was being an ass, that would be the exact opposite of how he was the first couple of years or so.
Remember how generous he was to his defensive teammates?
Dinners at restaurants and at his house and buying Preston an $80K Jeep, among other things.

Smith’s final year in Green Bay saw him play in two games — the opener and the playoff loss to the 49ers — because he had back surgery that he believes soured his relationship with the Packers. Smith told Tyler Dunne of Go Long that it “felt like shit went south” when he went for a second medical opinion that led to the decision to have surgery and that he became “a nobody” to the team, which helped inspire him to join up with Green Bay’s divisional rival.

“Walking past me not saying nothing. ‘Z, how’s your back doing?’ — there was none of that,” Smith said. “As you can see, that adds on to why I’m on the other side. So, I can go back. I get to go back two times a year. . . . I put my back on the fucking line. I put everything. And that Year Three, I was treated bad. That’s why I’m here now. So, I can play them twice a year.”

Interesting. Obviously there are two sides to the story but I feel it's telling that his own teammates didn't vote for him to be a captain when he was a captain the year before. Oh and I would be ok with sitting on IR for a year and making millions. Just sayin....

I believe things took a turn when the Packers restructured his deal prior to the beginning of last season.   Instead of being a candidate for extension, it opened the door for them to cut him after the 2021 season.

Somehow, he magically developed a back problem and basically quit on the team until he showed up in the playoffs to showcase his skills for other teams in 2022.

I said it then and I’ll say it again he wasn’t 100% invested last season so good riddance.  He wasn’t happy with how GB handled his contract so he checked out ala Ben Simmons.

Agree that it's telling, and he was a captain the previous two years.

Yup..  I tend to lean toward sympathizing with the player in most org / player disputes but in this case, I'm assuming Z was a diva / ass.

His schtick was cool for a bit, then it got old and I can see more mature players being tired of his mouth.

Pack's reconfigured receiving corps about to be unleashed on a Vikes team whose greatest vulnerability defensively may be its middling at best secondary featuring past his prime Patrick Peterson, not very good Cam Dantzler, (former Packer's weak link) Chandon Sullivan, a second-year first-time starter in Camryn Bynum, and a wily old vet who has lost a step or two in Harrison Smith.

I try to be a fair person. And I have major back problems. I get it. I saw him in many games lay on his back looking injured only to get back up and play. I have respect for players who play through injuries. I think that his back problems were real and understand his sensitivity to any perceived slight. Yet I also agree that he was not a true leader and his contract was not affordable when so many other players were needed for the roster.

@TomSilverstein:  #Packers coach Matt LaFleur said that WR Allen Lazard won't practice today. He said he got stepped on last week. Did not say what his status would be for Sunday. He was doing some running in rehab on Monday.

@TomSilverstein:  LaFleur said that he knows what the starting O-line will be against the #Vikings. Said the five best will be out there, but he still hasn't said whether Bakhtiari and/or Jenkins will start or play.

Word was the Packers wanted Z to get his back fixed in the offseason but he refused, worried he'd be cut if he did.  Instead he waited until the season started, and missed the entire year.

Not being voted captain (also telling) and then buying a big "C" chain to wear in retaliation...well I'm not sure I'm all that surprised he was a bit ostracized from the club.  In a "team first" org like the Pack that kind of stuff just isn't going to fly.
