Sure, why not.

Staley is MLF connected and perfected the now obsolete Fangio system back when he had Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey in their prime.

Add in that Staley was in charge of some of the worst performing defenses in the NFL the past couple of seasons and his defense had one of the all-time choke jobs in last yearโ€™s playoffs and Brandon seems like the ideal candidate to succeed Joe Barry and continue the proud tradition of defense in GB.

No doubt he had success with the Rams. However, an * should be placed for also having Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey as wll. Arguably, 2 future HOF'ers. Having those 2 game wreckers would make pretty much any DC look pretty damn good.

This is the Fritz Shurmur argument. People loved him, but he had at least 4 star level guys on defense when he won the Super Bowl as the Packers DC. This doesn't include very good players like Santana Dotson and Gilbert Brown.

Two Hall of Famers (Reggie and Butler) along with two other guys that were not that far from Hall of Fame material (Sean Jones with 113 career sacks and Eugene Robinson with 57 career interceptions).

If you replaced any DL the Packers had this year with prime Reggie White or Aaron Donald, Joe Barry probably looks like a genius too.

This is a solid take from Andy ... ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

Zimmer is a 4-3 guy, so I don't know how he'd fit in GB with the current personnel.

Pete Dougherty laid out a compelling argument why GB's personnel would fit better in a 4-3.  For example, he suggests LVN and Gary would be better DE's as both have played with their hand on the ground, also that Walker could then be used in the role Parsons has in DAL.

Gute has embraced being new the last couple years.  We'll see how far that goes and if MLF is up for the same.  Another angle is that you don't hire the scheme, you hire the coach.

I agree you hire the coach and not the scheme. I'm just saying that there might be a big lack of depth for at least a year if we go LVN and Gary as DEs as the roster is currently set up for a 3-4. Who would be behind them? Quay might be great in the Parsons role; I could see that, and he did have success rushing when Barry let him.

Another issue was that many players in MN had well-documented issues with Zimmer in that he was old-school, unbending, caustic, didn't listen, etc. Here's what Cam Dantzler said: โ€œ'I donโ€™t talk to guys who are hurt.' Dantzler recalled Zimmer telling him, according to Dunne.

โ€œIโ€™m like, โ€˜Whoa. OK.โ€™ Those words came out of his mouth,' Dantzler continued, per Dunne. 'Iโ€™m an outgoing person. People like my personality. I bring joy to the room. I donโ€™t know. Heโ€™s an old school type of guy. He wasnโ€™t feeling it.'"

And from the same short article: "...the anonymous former Vikings assistant who referred to Zimmer as 'Satan' in a previous interview with Dunne." story

It was well known how much players did not like Zimmer as another player said in the later years guys dreaded going to work. No thanks, I'll pass.
