THAT is the extent of his involvement....aka TOO much to do over the course of an entire season.

MLF needs a DC that will challenge him during practice.

Halla Fing lujah.

Now, get someone as innovative and aggressive on the defensive side of the ball to coordinate the D as MLF is on offense.

Big challenge coming for MLF as his coordinator hirings of Pettine, Barry, Mennenga, Drayton, and Bisaccia have not gone well to date.

The improvement of the D stems from the players gelling with time, much like the offense did.  We have weakness at ILB and safety but overall with the right coach the D could be very good next year.  In my opinion, in the playoffs, Green Bay's D out performed both Dallas and SF.  42 points on Dallas and in SF Green Bay was in the Red Zone 5 straight times.  (not counting the end of the half)

If true, not only am I glad they finally hit the delete button, but also quick enough to jump on the potential hot DC candidates.

Big task figuring out who the next guy is.  It seems even the best DC's still employed in the league have had their bad games, some in the worst situations.  How fast did the shine come off of Quinn after the wildcard loss?  There is no perfect candidate available and I hope MLF/1265 know WTF they are doing in the selection process.

Exciting times!!!

For anyone fooled by the smoke and mirrors of Barry's improvement  at the end of the season, reminder:

**Saints miss a 45 yard field goal with a minute to go, otherwise Saints win that game.

**Chargers Donald Parnham drops a WIDE open pass on a blown coverage, otherwise Chargers win that game.

**Baker Mayfield has a literal career day at Lambeau, his only perfect QB rating in career history.

**The Panthers score a season high points and are a failed 1 second spike at the end of the game from kicking a likely game winning FG.

**The Packers beat a Vikings team on the road facing a 4th string QB

Thank you MLF for not being fooled by the trees and looking at the whole forest that was Dingle Barry.

The league is designed to be an offensive league.   Can't tackle in practice.  Can't tackle the QB high or low, you got to Goldielocks tackle him just right, and then the PI calls.

We just need a guy that instills aggression with philosophy.   We need the Dan Campbell type to be ying to MLF's yang.

Assuming MLF gets this next hire right, and he absolutely must, it will be fascinating to watch what a new DC does with what is likely to be 8 first round picks (I think the Packers once again go defense in the 1st).

Rashan Gary.

LVN.

Davonte Wyatt.

Quay Walker.

Eric Stokes.

Jaire Alexander.

Kenny Clark.

2024 1st round pick (Safety/Corner).

It's a lot of draft capital spent by Gute.

Someone better make some pretty damn good chicken salad out of this...

I want a young DC that meshes well and understands the young 20 something players that gets the most out of each of them.

Is that asking too much?

This.

The Pack has gone with older coordinators who preferred a passive approach to playing defense for most of this century, and had underwhelming defenses to show for it most years (other than 2009 and 2010).

How about a young, innovative, aggressive DC who is not afraid to show some fire?

If the D could come close to matching the O this team could be really exciting.

One thing to keep an eye on is if the rest of the D staff is also let go.  If it's not then you're just continuing the majority of the problem.  Barry inherited Pettine's staff.  Will the next DC inherit the same?

According to Florio: Belichick avoiding 'major media markets'.

BB has only spoke with ATL. Come lead the GB D with this growing offense, and he could get that elusive 3-peat.

Exciting for us....pretty damn scary for the entire NFC....especially Detoilet, Minnesota and Chicago

I don't want Jim Leonard. Give me a guy who thinks that not only the job of the defense is to hold the other team from scoring, but also to create TURNOVERS and 3 and outs to give the ball back to our offense in good field position and win the TOP.

It may be we give up a few more big plays, but the risk will be far worth the reward. I'm so done watching teams convert 3rd downs because we sit back and HOPE the other team makes a mistake.

Also, Special Teams needs a re-evaluation and let's find a kicker who can make routine kicks.

He'd be the ONE old guy I'd be ok with and I'll bet the players would be ok with it too

Anyone high on Brandon Staley?Who was fired this year by the Chargers.

Please no.

If you have an Aaron Donald at DT and Jalen Ramsey at CB and add a Von Miller at OLB for a stretch run, Staley might be OK.

Otherwise, get used to more of the bend, bend, break passivity of the Joe Barry era.

MLF announcement, from packers.com:

Joe Barry will not return as defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers. Head Coach Matt LaFleur made the announcement Wednesday.

Barry has worked as an NFL coach for 22 seasons, including the last three years as the defensive coordinator for the Packers.

"We want to thank Joe for his commitment and contributions to our success the past three seasons," said LaFleur. "These decisions are extremely difficult and Joe is one of the best men I've had the opportunity to work with in this league."

This certainly sounds like Joe Blow will not be retained in any from.   Also interesting that MLF called him "one of the best men I have ever worked with", not one of the best coaches I've worked with.

I see it this way.  A lot of organizations have good guys that get along with everyone well.  They are good at some things but really bad at others.  You kind of want them to succeed so you find yourself covering for them more and more.  To your own detriment even.

Joe Barry is probably that guy for the NFL.  This is the only explanation for why he keeps getting more chances.

Rex Ryan is a talking head now not a coach. Why is everyone so insistent on retreads?

In any case I assume it will be someone that MLF actually knows and has a good rapport with. So I would start looking at guys who have a connection to him in some way.
