Defensive end Johnny Jolly was not present for the first day of the Packers' off-season conditioning program, but he is expected to be there soon, an NFL source familiar with his situation said Tuesday.
At the time of McCarthy's comments, Jolly was working with the Houston court system to allow him to leave the state and remain in compliance with his probation. The source said it's possible he could arrive as early as today in Green Bay. Workouts began on Monday.continue
If he can be half of what he was...
Which half? ![Wink](http://timesfour.com/x4graemlins/icon_wink.gif)

Might need more than half...just saying. He wasn't Reggie White so maybe 90% or more.
Bassackward Houston court... Let's keep him in Houston where gets into trouble instead of letting him go to Green Bay where he would have people wanting to help him.
Hopefully resolved quickly.

We may not want half as good - but if he can be just as good for half as many plays, I'd take that.
Justin Harrell could come back and be just as good for half as many plays as he was the first go-round. ![](https://packers.timesfour.com/fileSendAction/fcType/12/fcOid/330620847532898761/fodoid/330620847532898762/imageType/THUMBNAIL/inlineImage/true/608104819avatar)

Jolly's on formal probation for a felony though, which carries restrictions on traveling across state lines. Obviously they'll work something out (and moving at the speed of mud) but it's not surprising.

βI think I have a great shot at going back to those guys,β Jolly told the NFP last summer. βTheyβre a great organization. The coaches are very good, the players are good. I know they have supported me 100 percent.
βI want to say that would be a dream come true, but I made it in the NFL before. So, I would say it would be like another dream. It would be a journey and going back to do the things I love and showing everybody you can make mistakes but itβs the way you correct the things youβve done wrong. I want to make the Packers look good.β

What employer isn't excited to get that information from the Houston D.A. in an email when they're waiting for a new employee to start?
Goodell loves that stuff. I hope it works out!
He should be in GB this week - any local sightings ?
MAYBE....Good fortune smiles on the Packers this year
Then GB adds back all these guys in addition to another draft class:
Nick Perry
Bryan Bulaga
Derek Sherrod
Desmond Bishop
Johnny Jolly
Andrew Quarless
Brandon Saine
DJ Smith...oops !
A fully recovered Alex Green
A better prepared DuJuan Harris
A fully recovered Davon House

Yeah.
Until they all get hurt again.

The promising thing is that I think everyone on Satori's list besides Bishop and Jolly is 25 or younger.

βI donβt know anyone who sat out three years and was able to go back to the same team,β Jolly acknowledged. βI met with the Packers a couple of weeks ago. They understand my situation and they are willing to be there for me, so Iβm just doing everything I can to be in shape and do everything I need to do for my team.
βThey have been there, and Iβm going up there to do my best to show them what they want to see this year. So Iβll be doing everything in my power to get ready.β
Could coach players to play both offense and defense.
Potentially huge.
Sweet. I realize Johnny is a long shot, but I can't help but have fond memories for the 2007 and 2009 versions of Jolly in particular.
In 2006, I just don't remember Jolly showing a whole lot as a rookie. Then came training camp in 2007. I remember during camp Bob McGinn detailing who beat who in different drills, etc. and I recall Jolly had one of the best camps of any D-Linemen he had ever seen.
He was a major influence on the defense really being very solid on the way to an 8-1 start in '07. Once he got hurt, the defense was still pretty good, but it definitely lost a bit of its edge which among other things came back to bite the team in the cold vs. the Giants.
In 2008 he wasn't as good as he got hurt early and never really played well all year.
2009, I know there were some that thought Jolly was the best D-Lineman on the team, better than Cullen Jenkins.
The Pack certainly has survived without Jolly, but without question, when he was playing and playing well, they were much much tougher up front, particularly against the run. It would be a nice surprise if Jolly still has something left of what he once was.

I didn't even think it was a particularly close call.
I'm a bit skeptical after three years out of the league, but anything is possible and hopefully he'll manage to at least get his life back on track.
Come back...play the run and swat down passes = dream from heaven
Good luck to Johnny.
Can he play center??
I'm excited about Jolly's return. He was a good player and I still think the Packers need more d-line help. I'm rooting for him.
Johnny tweeted that he'll be in GB tomorrow
IF he is bulked up, is Jolly a candidate to play NT and back-up Pickett on the nose ?

I think he's just too well suited for end to move him to NT. Jolly has(had?) a knack for swatting the ball and It is(was?) one of his special qualities. He did it 10 times his last season here. There's nothing more frustrating for a QB than to have a pass batted down. They have to start messing with the loft on the ball and that creates time and angles for interceptions. That's a lot harder to pull off from NT.

Rooting for him, but I wouldn't bet on it.
If he wasn't smart enough to comply with multiple chances on probation, there is little hope he was smart enough to stay in shape.
I'd give him a snowball's chance.

I had some hope for him if he could have been in Green Bay 3 months ago doing nothing but working off the rust of 3 years of inactivity. Starting now might be too late. Even had he started out 3 months ago he was a long shot. Now it's an even longer shot.
in Hunter S. Thompson fashion, ho ho ho.
Christmas in June with the Jolly ol' fellow.

I am actually optimistic. I think he is blessed with a lot of talent, his particular position does not require a ton of recent activity, and he has plenty of miles left on his treads.
I think he's gonna be a contributor.
