Pickett is starting to drop off? Do you base that off the calendar or off his play on the field. He had a great season last year and was GBs best D Lineman and is the only guy who can consistently hold up against double teams, a rare commodity and one you must have to play the 3-4.
There is no way that Pickett doesn't make the team.
Johnny Jolly takes a step on road to redemption

He turned 30 in February, a man who abused his body for years and let his weight balloon so high during his dark times that he wouldn't say what he weighed then or what he weighs now.
Other than that, Jolly didn't duck any of the approximately 50 questions that were machine-gunned his way.
"The team's happy with my weight and I'm happy with it," said Jolly, who weighed 326 late in the '09 season and seems to be within 10 pounds of that now. "I'm moving good. I'm here today in good shape."
Fearing an early-use muscle pull or fatigue injury, McCarthy has instructed his defensive line coach, Mike Trgovac, to limit Jolly's repetitions for the time being. Jolly was withheld from the one-on-one pass-rushing drill Friday and Saturday before taking three turns Sunday.
Whatever Jolly could provide as a rusher other than resume his uncanny batting down of passes would be gravy. Jolly is here mainly for the Packers to determine if he can still stand firm as a defensive end in their 3-4 base defense.
There's a fine but critical line between being a stuffer and a punching bag.
The Packers need somebody to read a blocking combination, execute proper steps and technique, get off a block and not buckle against a double-team.
"What impressed me most was his football savvy," Robert Nunn, then the Packers' defensive tackles coach, said before Jolly's first training camp in 2006. "You give him something, he's got it.
Jolly played by far his finest season in 2009 as the left end in Dom Capers' new 3-4. Leading the line in snaps (835) after resisting Trgovac's efforts to curb his playing time, he was far more disciplined in his approach and, at times, almost impossible to move.
The Packers led the league in run defense, and one NFC North scout said Jolly was even more valuable than Cullen Jenkins. He used a spin move excessively and wore down late as a rusher, but his 11 batted-down passes were a club record and he took the ball away four times.
Remembered fondly by quarterback Aaron Rodgers a few years ago as a world-class trash talker, Jolly was in the middle of most practice-field fights. One night at Nitschke, he was in the process of unbuckling his shoulder pads and taking on the entire offensive line before sanity prevailed.
Jolly was back at it again Sunday... continue
Lots more past the click
It's early, but Jolly is looking like a surprise addition to the defense. If he and Jones come through and Daniels makes the customary leap between his rookie and second season, a lot of our defensive issues could be fixed.
Mcginn in his podcast doesn't think Jolly has much of a chance.

It'll be tough. To keep Jolly would mean getting rid of a much younger player. If it's even close, you know Ted will go with youth.
The one thing about Jolly is he is pretty young in football years, and has (possibly) a skill set that most of our DL don't. I don't remember him getting hurt much when he was on the team a few years back. Plus, he's making the league min., should give him incentive to play well for another contract.
If it were close between JJ and a young player, it's a tough call, but I would bet on it being JJ.

Gomer Pyle says "Suprise! Surprise! Surprise!"
big bad bob being pessimistic - tell me it ain't so.
Looking into my crystal ball, I see a minor injury for Jolly that lands him on the PUP....thus giving the Pack a couple more months to evaluate.
Jolly has a chance because Worthy is out until probably Nov., he knows the system, and while serviceable Wilson is not dominant (JJ can be), and who really knows about the rook's.
Sometimes it seems McGinn is a like a smarter Bayless with his only intent in stirring sh!t up.

Nope. The PUP list is already set. You can't add people once TC starts.
It can be a tough call between new guys with little to no experience and older guys with game experience. My opinion doesn't matter, of course, but I'll take the experience 90% of the time.
Another point is Jolly could afford us the "luxury" of letting a rookie develop behind him or one of the other starters on O-line.
In any case, it's way too early to start roster predictions. We need to start going through the cut-downs during pre-season before we can see how the roster may shape up.
But there is a new short term IR that can only be used on one player at a time.
Is it one player at a time? I was under the impression that it was a one time thing each year. you designate one player and that's it for the year.
Jolly adds one more piece to the puzzle for this year and next
Raji is in a contract year along with Pickett and the Packers drafted a wide body in Boyd, brought in a UDFA in Pena and added Jolly to compete as well
The camp updates suggest Jolly is getting snaps at NT and DT and if he works out, he'd be insurance in case GB can't sign Raji or Pickett gets too old
One way to stash him is to cut him with the understanding that he'd be brought back later in the season. Not sure if another team would want him or if he would even consider playing for another squad after the Packers stood by him during his escapades
Nah, I'm sure Jolly's finances were shot all to hell by his legal defense, not to mention him blowing a wad on his (then) lifestyle choices and posse.
If he were to get cut, and another team offered him a contract, he'd likely jump on it.
JMHO.
Here's a note on Jolly's weight loss from Jack Bechta at NFP
"Client DT Johnny Jolly of the Packers is down to 325 pounds for the first time since his rookie year, seven years ago. Johnny is not drinking any alcohol and told me the biggest thing that has help him shed the pounds (he was about 350 in June) is that he quit eating after 7pm. He told me he sleeps better and wakes up with a ton of energy."
