I also had high hopes when MLF was hired. I thought the offense would be modernized with lots of motion and trick plays. Lots of splash plays.

I think Gute made a big mistake by not investing high draft picks in the OL. Without an OL a team really has nothing and that's why we play plenty of teams that might have as many as 3 #1 picks on their line. He really whiffed taking Myers over Humphreys.

Yep. We lost Bakh, Jenkins has been in and out, Myers hasn't progressed and has that journeyman look, Runyan is just Ok, and we thought we were so strong at RT that Yosh would battle it out with Tom. Yosh got $4.3 mil and hasn't hardly been heard from. As a unit they are only as strong as their weakest link and Walker has been atrocious. Caleb Jones was supposed to be this up and comer but if he can't beat out Walker that can't be true.

Just listened to MLF presser. Again he said something to the effect of making a bad call because he thought Denver was going to be in a different defense based on down / distance tendency from their previous games. I really think his not wanting to give Love the ability to change plays at the LOS is a factor in the offenses struggles, especially in the First Half, when you don't have as much info as to how the defense is playing you. It sounds like DC's, knowing the play won't be changed, have a big advantage in the "cat and mouse" game.

I don't think it's so much Love can't change a play, it's more like they have a pre-determined play called if Love decides he needs to change it.
IOW, he can't call a play that he thinks will work against a particular defense if he changes the original call. The 'check' play has already been determined for him.

A bad call?  Or was it that Love didn’t see Reed running free in the middle of the field or Thunder Thighs wide open on the left?

"Said he called a play expecting them to be in nickel, but they were in base defense"

it baffles me that ANY  nfl team has an issue switching out of a play called against the wrong defense.  it's called 'professional' football

That was when we thought Bakhtiari would play LT. Now LT is just a training position for Rasheed Walker. At least Newman isn't out there. Runyan playing on that injured ankle and Yosh being benched, did not help matters. Tom is solid at RT but I think he is better at C. I cheered, (sorry about that) when Myers got injured and they moved Tom to C and brought Yosh in at RT. Minus Bakh, I felt those were our best 5 players on the OL. BTW, where is Rhyan, or Caleb Jones??

The fact that guys like Newman are benched but still on the team speaks volumes. The guy is either good enough to be on the field or he isn't and he didn't get benched because someone else is such a great player. He played his way to the sidelines and will always be a weak link if he's on the field. Gute just has to go after premier linemen instead of hoping to get it done with mid round draft picks and UDFAs. They got lucky with Bakh in the 4th round and got to thinking that was the norm.

It's really death by 1,000 paper cuts.  We haven't drafted any players that teams need to scheme around (Gary might be the only one), and the rotational guys are not guys you can count on.

The coaches aren't getting the team ready to play, you can see this in the game plan, play calling and execution (every week there's a play where it's obvious the WR's are running the wrong routes for example).

The players are young and lack experience.  But it's almost impossible to know if they just need more time to get better like many young players or they are just bad.  Especially on offense there are very few vets to lean on, and the ones that are have been injured.

$61m in dead cap + $21m for Bahk is $82m in cap doing nothing.  That's enough money for 4 or 5 all-pro's.

While Rodgers may have covered up some warts on this offense, he was on the team last year and we only won 8 games.  At this point in the season last year we were 3-4.  Love has not played well but I think the Packers problems are across the board issues.

Games are won and lost in the trenches. Watch Mark Wahle's show. No push from the center of the defensive line. Qb' s can step up with a clear lane. Lineman don't hold their gaps on running plays. Offensive lineman with lousy foot work getting turned off off the play. Same thing week after week.

They cited this stat during game Sunday, thought I heard it wrong but just checked for myself ....The Packers are dead last in points scored in the First half ...but First in points scored in the second half! Now some of it may be that our opponents have ben ahead at half and played us soft, but that happens in many other NFL games each week. I think it has more to do with MLF "scripting " his first 15 plays and practicing them vs. the defense they expect to see ....only to have the Opponent change the defense expected for the distance / down tendencies. He can say all he wants that it is a problem with execution, but it doesn't make sense that we are making more mistakes on plays we've practiced more (the first 15) than others (used in second half to combat the defense se they are seeing). It just seems like something else is going on to confuse our offensive players more in the First Half.

Butkus sucks. That offensive line is so poorly coached. Another shitty MLF hire.

I know I am being Capt Obvious but one thing about football regardless of what level it is you win if win in the trenches especially the OL.  Everything feeds off of that.  You run the ball better, that leads to play action, the defense is on its heals, and in turn your defense plays out in front and can get after things.  Well maybe not with a Barry defense but you get my point.

A long tweet thread to read but Benkert is basically absolving Love over most of the issues on offense. It's largely WR's having no idea WTF they are doing, running the same route and bunched together, OL blocking is hot garbage.

He's not saying anything different than most of us.

The Packers have issues. Jordan Love is way down the list of those issues.

I will say....Jordan Love hasn't been the solution either. He needs to play better but some help would be nice.

Hey....at least we haven't had (2) Packer Offensive linemen blocking each other like the Bears. 😉

Agree. When shit like this is happening, this is coaching (or lack there of). Not enough talk about Jason Vrable or Stenovich. They aren't getting the job done either..

Jordan Love is a C- QB playing with

D+ level WRs/TEs and a

D- level offensive line

The fact that almost all facets of the offense are playing poorly suggests the main problem is the coaching staff on that side of the ball.

They can’t even run the basic stuff correctly, how is making it more complex going to help?

Or an incredible lack of talent.

That’s what happens when you give up premium draft capital for an athletic guy who has no clue how to actually play WR. He’s an even more raw version of Cordarelle Patterson.

What baffles me is that on WR sweeps, screens, they always seem to run to the short side of the field, so the individual doesn't have enough room to take advantage of their speed.

Man I miss the days of the Holmgren era when they would run screens with Levens and Bennett. It was a thing of beauty.

100% this.

Linebackers are faster now than then. But so are O-linemen and TEs.probably my favorite type of play in the Favre years and maybe over the lady 30+ (aside from the kneel down in the 4th quarter).
