I agree with Music City on capitalism being the best economic system to advance society, but I'm an FDR capitalist, meaning regulation to check the excesses is as necessary as a referee in a basketball game. Do the refs make mistakes? Yes, just like government bureaucrats, but when unions were around to check management we had a stronger middle class rather than the oligarchy we have today. And Hillary would've been a decent president despite the propaganda against her. Probably more hawkish than liberals would have liked, but sensible in policy.

Limited government is essential- but it needs be there to enact and enforce laws that ensure the opportunity of the American dream. I believe in clean air, clean water, quality education, and the protection of its citizens against the evils that exist.

But like everything, the Devil’s in the details. Power corrupts, and the leftist ideology believes that government control of the economy and means of production can be above corruption. It cannot. Limited government is the only way we have been able to prosper, and the only way we can continue.

Lebron’s school will hopefully teach kids this. Teach them that they control their destiny- because they do. No political indoctrination, just truth.

Doesn't that go for the captains of industry as well?  I'm not a socialist, but I would rather have gov being the watchdog (votes matter) than lay bets on the  ethics and greed of corporate America being the voice of reason.

Just look at the CEO to worker compensation ratios in the last 50 years....

Very good article on voucher program in Wisconsin.  A few excerpts:

First, this idea that money should follow the student is based on flawed logic.

Second, voucher schools do not take every student.   Voucher schools do not have to offer the services that public schools are legally required to offer, so many parents simply will not send their children there.

Third, vouchers drain needed funding from public schools. Gov. Walker said that the money was insignificant, less than 1 percent of the budget, but $260 million statewide is significant.

Finally, voucher schools do not do better than neighborhood public schools. At best, they do about the same, and they usually do worse.

But, this paper doesn’t only address private schools, it states specifically about the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (voucher program), that it β€œconsistently failed to demonstrate that vouchers are effective in empowering low-income families, improving public schools, increasing student achievement, or saving money.”

In Milwaukee, the Wisconsin State Journal reports data from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction showing that, after 25 years of this failed experiment, students receiving vouchers did not score as high on reading and math tests as their public-school counterparts.

Lots more in the full article.
