What It Takes to be Number One

"Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do things right once in a while; you do them right all of the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

There is no room for second place. There is only one place in my game, and that's first place. I have finished second twice in my time at Green Bay, and I don't ever want to finish second again. There is a second place bowl game, but it is a game for losers played by losers. It is and always has been an American zeal to be first in anything we do, and to win, and to win, and to win.

I just looked at the teams the Cowboys have beaten and it really isn't too impressive.  Sure,  they had a great record,  but I think they had the benefit of a pretty easy schedule. They beat 3 playoff teams.  The Packers beat 4.

Yeah, but the Cowboys beat the Packers.

About that little push. Some idiot talking head the other day said that was bad for the league because that basically gives WRs a free pass for committing OPI on Hail Mary plays. One of the other guys blasted him about this as it was so subtle, and the defender did not end up on the ground. No one mentioned the blatant OPI from the fail mary, where Taint put Shields on the turf.

Yeah it was boom boom, I saw that too, it was on inside the NFL.   The thing he didn't mention is that no one pushed off at all on the other 2 hail Mary's, both were clean catches with no push offs whatsoever.  Fn Ridiculous statement from a ridiculous analyst trying to start a ridiculous controversy, RIDICULOUS!

EDIT -  Phil Simms went on to say that Omar IS the greatest football thrower of all time.   a very non-ridiculous statement

New nickname for Rodgers? OMAR!!!

No mention of Jordy here.

3. His surreal ability to extend football plays by four to five seconds breaks defenses, swings football games (like we witnessed with that first score against the Giants on Sunday) and makes it impossible to tell if his receivers are good. I mean, is Randall Cobb good? Is Davante Adams good? Was Greg Jennings good? How the **** would we know? Has anyone created more unexpected fantasy starters and fantasy sleepers than Aaron Rodgers? Remember that time you bid $10 for Jarrett Boykin? Or James Jones, who led the 2015 Packers with 890 yards and eight touchdowns, then never played football again?

So,  the Packers beat the Giants twice who beat the Cowboys twice.  Just pointing out the Cowboys soft schedule.

And those two cherry picked statements amount to what?

Cherry picked statements? Those were Troys color commentary following both plays. You know what's a ****ing riot? Green Bay did exactly what Troy accused of NY of doing wrong.

Troy is an NFC East guy and I think he does a pretty decent job of putting his bias on ice. But when he's off base there's nothing wrong with calling him on it

The whole Troy/Buck hate the Packers and talks up the other team/NFC East is pretty old to me. He/they talks everyone up. They also get down on teams equally. Obviously my opinion.

I can see what you are saying but what I mean by cherry picked is that one quote from an entire games worth of comments is not quite the entire story. Did he not give the Packers any credit for that play? Not in that statement. When I read it, that fact (the irony) was not apparent to me. Thanks for the clarification.

People say the same thing about Buck in baseball and the funny thing is that it appears to be equally on both sides. In the last WS Cubs and Indians fans were both irate over his unfairness to their teams.

Everybody listens to their home town broadcast and thinks the national broadcast will be a more polished version of the homers.

As for Omar, Patriot fans revere Brady.  No. Matter. What.  Brady could shoot someone on Newbury Str. and no one would care.

Packer fans are spoiled.  We totally are.  We expect HOF QBing like it is an easy thing to achieve.  We are so incredibly lucky to have Rodgers to watch.

Now, we should have more than 2 superbowl rings to show for those QB's, but that is primarily Dom Capers fault.

From Blecher Report:

As such, on Sunday, Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys rushing attack will be the team's key to victory. In Dallas' first meeting with Green Bay, Elliott rushed for 157 yards on 28 carries. But it's not just Elliott who has found success against Dom Capers' defense. In Dallas' last four games against the Packers, it's run the ball 99 times for 641 yards. This Packers defense has had no answers for the Cowboys running game, no matter who is carrying the ball for Dallas.

Green Bay's biggest defensive weaknesses are its two inside linebackers. Both Jake Ryan and Blake Martinez finished outside of the top 32 inside linebackers in Bleacher Report's NFL1000.

In the first matchup, Dallas gashed these linebackers on the ground with misdirection and outside runs. There is a massive gap in terms of athleticism between Elliott and the two inside linebackers. If those linebackers don't play better than in Week 6, Elliott should match his rushing total from the first victory.

anyone hear Dan Patrick today??  Oh, he didn't see the leading with the helmet.  Ugh.....loved my boyfriend on his program but, DP is NOT a fan of the Packers.

I saw that hit and saw him leading with the crown of his helmet. Dan Patrick is a brown stain on the name of Patrick

So many plots and subplots and Simmons summed it up perfectly.  I'm less concerned about the offense scoring and moving the ball but am concerned about the Dallas O playing small ball ala the Lovie Smith Bears thus limiting possessions and shortening the game.

The wild card is Jason Garrett.  He's been prone in the past to get sucked in to trying to look good (like throwing the ball 45 times a game) versus playing to their strength which is let that big OL and Elliott wear down the defense and hit you with the occasional play action.

The best scenario for GB is for them to jump on Dallass early and make Garrett go Mike Martz and try to force a shootout.  Given our crappy pass D he may try to go there anyway but the Cowboys would be fools to not lean on their power run game and play Barry ball.

This is why I like GBs chances

Which in turn is primarily Mike McCarthys fault.   Welcome to the correct side of the argument,

Just watched nfl replay of WK06.

Things from WK06 we shouldn't expect to see again in NFCD:

AR with a really bad decision on an INT, in DAL territory.

AR coughing up the ball inside the DAL 5.

AR being a bit off on a bunch of throws.

Demitri Goodson getting a lot of reps.

Gunter having a bad game, often vs. DAL rookie #19.

GB DB's fell down twice on big DAL pass plays.

Things from WK06 we could expect to see again in NFCD:

AR having lots of time to throw and finding open receivers, passing success.

GB O being able to move the ball down the field.

GB D getting pressure on Dak.

DAL O has some nifty pass plays with picks and screens.

Zeke being Zeke.

Other notes:

It was an even game until AR coughed up that ball inside DAL 5.  Then the flood gates opened on our D.  Lacy had some big runs so our running game should find some success.  Jordy coughed the ball up at mid field - he really struggled with drops and ball security until about WK11.  Monty was having a really good game catching balls out of the backfield.  Dez could be X factor.  DAL OL can wear a DL down.  We don't have a lot of depth on the DL.  I kind of expect a close game until DAL OL/Zeke takes over in 4th Q.  We jump out to big lead then all bets are off.

Mike Perrreira was on a radio show this week.  His answer to the Cobb Hail Mary was that as long as no one is thrown to the ground it's fair play and the refs will let it slide.

Last night I dreamed we dominated early, they went to Tony Romo in the second half and he led a furious comeback but we won 31-27 when Haha intercepted him in the end zone with one minute left. He went to the ground, we got it at the 20 and it was kneel down time....
