None of this adds up. This article says

quote:
Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the man who has been publicly identified as being behind the Manti Te’o girlfriend hoax, admitted to deceiving the Heisman Trophy finalist [...] Tuiasosopo told her Te’o was not involved in the hoax, and that he had concocted similar hoaxes on β€œother people.”

And yet the Deadspin article says this about Ronaiah Tuiasosopo:

quote:
"Manti and Ronaiah are family," she said, "or at least family friends."

So based on all of the info we have, what is more likely. That Ronaiah pulled a fast one (ok, slow one, this "relationship" lasted over a year) on his friend, or that Manti and Ronaiah were in cahoots and schemed the entire thing up together, and now Ronaiah is trying to be the fall guy to clear Manti's name?

My litmus test for these things is usually this: If you're accused of doing something you didn't do (in this case making up a fake girlfriend), if you were actually innocent you would be screaming on the top of the tallest building trying to find out who did this and sue them. You'd be on every TV show with rage trying to not only clear your name but to try to get to the bottom of it.

And in every case we have these people go into hiding or just shut up about it instead. And in every case they end up being complicit.
And now this story is all over the place.

quote:
Te'o admitted lying to his father, Brian, about the relationship., and confessed to embellishing details of their romance.

"I kind of catered my stories to have people think that yeah, I met her before he passed away," Te'o was quoted as saying.

Te'o said a group of women including one who claimed to be Kekua showed up at the Miami hotel where the Notre Dame team was staying leading up to the BCS Championship game. Te'o said the visit affected his play in the game.

One of the most pressing questions over the last few days was why Te'o didn't visit the supposedly ailing Kekua in the hospital. Schaap posed that to Te'o, who said, "It never really crossed my mind. I don't know. I was in school."

And yet he still says he was the one duped, he wasn't in on it.
No matter if it's with a 7th round pick, I don't want T'eo on the Packers. This situation is beyond f**ked up and I see no resolution that would make it worth the media circus to let this guy come to Green Bay. I enjoy reading articles about my team that focus in football. Drafting T'eo would turn this team into the Jets.

I wish Notre Dame, ESPN, and CNNSI would accept some blame for this. They're as culpable as anyone. We'll never see it happen, but one can hope....
We had a similar situation happen in our family about 5 years ago. My youngest brother had just arrived on campus to start his freshman year of college. He kept talking about this girl he "met online." Every time they were to actually finally met something would come up, stuff like her brother got arrested and she had to go stay with his kids. In order to call the girl he'd have to call this other girl and she would relay the message that my brother wanted to talk. About a 1 1/2 year later she tells me she has a modeling contract and is moving to New York oh and she is going to die of cancer. She says he's taking the modeling job to make some money to leave her brother/family etc but she neeed to some money to get to NY. She asked my brother. In the good news department my brother asked my folks and got a Hell No and the girl was never heard from again.

Moral of the story, yes there are bad guys out there and hopefully like in our situation there are smarter good guys.

It ain't. I'll do a DeadSpin imitation and proclaim that I am 80% sure a lot of this threads hysterics aren't coming from fans concerned about his potential effect on the Packers should they draft him as much as they despise the school he attends.

I'm 85% sure that if he had chosen say.........USC.......the fans of the school he attends would be heaping praise on DeadSpin right now and cursing ESPN.

Ray Lewis was involved in a fatal stabbing while at Miami (FL) that conspiracy theorists, with a lot more material to work with, claimed others took the rap for him. Lighten the hell up.

Yeah, I think you're exhibiting classic signs of chapped ass. It's a clown show regardless of where Te'o goes to school. I'm surprised there hasn't been any "christian persecution" whining yet.

I don't think this is a big deal as far as his draft slot goes, it's not a "red flag" so to speak. Certainly players have done worse and been drafted higher. I think, whether he was truly duped or not, it shows some immaturity...either he was pulling an immature prank/hoax or he was too immature/stupid to see he was being conned. I think his performance in the NC game will cause more concern than some internet dating hoax. I don't think he's a better prospect than Dont'a Hightower was from a year ago and I think he went in the 20's. That's not a surprise to me though, I didn't think he was a 1st round caliber LB, but there were SO many that were saying he was a top 15 pick that I assumed I was missing something.

Ah yes. Another person that shoots the messenger instead of reading the actual - you know - article. The narrative that ND knobpolishers want you to believe is that the whole story was based on a source being 80% right, and here you are, shilling for them. Never mind that the 80% source comment was a very small aspect of the whole story. Please continue with the outrage that this is all just no big deal and that ugly "BLOG" has it for those perfect boys there at Notre Dame. Let's also ignore that ND and their mouthpieces played up this BS story to try and spin the story of GREAT LB PLAYING WITH EMOTIONAL PAIN!

See, it's ND and Te'o that are the victims here, right? Hell Deadspin went to wire with only 1 source that was 80% correct. Forget that ND and Te'o confirmed the entire story themselves. Deadspin IS RECKLESS! Keep believing the guy that lied about the whole thing for at minimum a month.

If you're gonna try playing the false equivalency angle, at least get your facts correct, eh?

If I was a personnel guy, I'd be more concerned about Te'o skipping this because he was afraid of talking about it than I would about the imaginary girlfriend story itself. So what happens when things inevitably get tough for him in the NFL? He'll just avoid the situation?
Someone made a good point on Denver radio the other day, that T'eo isn't a bad guy or have any character issues at all, but he lost a ton of street cred here. You can murder someone, assault someone, do drugs, or drive drunk and as long as you can stay on the field, that helps you come off as tough in the lockerroom. I think it's stupid, but breaking the law makes you look tough and as we've discussed recently, you need toughness to win. So while we say a guy is a bad dude for breaking the law, being a bad dude helps you on the field.

The thought was that T'eo now looks weak in the locker room and thus will have a hard time gaining the respect of his teammates. For a guy who's biggest strength is his leadership ability, this may be an issue. Again, you may disagree, but the locker room culture of the NFL isn't the real world. It's not rational.
