I recall Randy Wright also played with the flu once and started the game with a record-setting consecutive completions streak (or was close to a record). I think for some players being sick makes them go on "automatic" and so thinking doesn't interfere with instincts and muscle memory. For other players, they can't afford to stop thinking.

I think it makes them focus better or makes it easier to focus. It drowns out the noise in a weird way. Some of my best races and PR's were with an ailment or other "distraction". It's almost as if you don't have the mental energy to allow anything to occupy your head but whatever it is that is most important.

The Pack went to ATL in 2010 regular season too. Hard fought game... I recall the clutch TD throw to Jordy to tie the game late. Was it a big kick return that foiled GB that day? In the playoffs they went to Georgia dome again. I expected a similarly hard fought game. Rodgers and company blew the falcons doors off. While I can't see a blowout in this rematch, I certainly believe GB will give ATL all they can handle. Losing hasn't been in their vocabulary for a good 7-8 weeks. Experience has to count for something in the playoffs, maybe that's the deciding factor on Sunday.

Atlanta was "hot" that year; they finished 13-3 and were the #1 seed. They were 8-2 coming into the Packers game, riding a 4-game winning streak (that eventually extended to 8), but were barely winning close games .
Green Bay wasn't exactly a slouch, coming into that game at 7-3 and on a streak of 4 wins also (after back-to-back OT losses). Our offense was sputtering at times; when they fired on all cylinders, they were a scoring machine (put 45 on the Cowboys and 34 on the Vikes in the 2 games prior), but when they didn't...that was the difference between #2 and #6 seed.
It was indeed a tight, back-and-forth game. The critical play (for us) was an Arod fumble at the Atlanta 1 yard line roughly midway through the 2nd quarter. It was 10-3 at the half.
It was tied at 10 after the 3rd quarter, but Atlanta had driven the ball to our 1 yard line as the time ran out, and scored 2 plays to open the 4th. Arod eventually hit Jordy for a TD with 1:06 left after running 16 plays for 90 yards in 5 minutes!
On the ensuing KO, they allowed Weems to return it the 36, and some chowderhead named Wilhelm got flagged for a facemask and Atlanta started at our 49. Of course, the defense allowed a 3rd down conversion, they drained the clock, and kicked a FG for the win with 13 seconds left.
There are enough similarities (including a horrendous injury situation!) this year that makes me think:

Atlanta only played 4 playoff teams during the regular season. They went 2-2. The Packers played 7 playoff teams and went 5-2. Everyone is on the Atlanta bandwagon due to their playoff win against Seattle. They won 36 - 20. The Packers beat Seattle 38 - 10.
So, who has more impressive wins this year and more experience against good teams? That's right. The Packers. I think Atlanta is a good team. I also think they are a little overrated due to the Seattle win. Go Packers!
Blathering's" is a good name for this thread. We really don't know the outcome. And as a fan I have my own thoughts and expectations. They have even changed over this last week.
Todays take is based on Atlanta's D-line and LB's. I have had time to digest what I saw on NFL Networks replay of the last time the teams met. I saw Atlanta's pass rush messing up Aarons timing with the WR's. I expect the same this game but perhaps a bit worse because of injuries and illness. I have talked about a shootout and this likely but we need a solid run threat too. Last time the pass protection could have used better RB support. Rip was ok, most of the others were not. If the current RB's have evolved their skills from the last game then we will be able to let Aaron do his stuff.
If Janis! and Davis play (and I think they will), I hope they know how to get open. That's not their strong suit.
I know the outcome. I'm just choosing not to share.

No Cook, Cobb, or Ty in that game. AR went 28-38 with 4 TDs and led the team in rushing. Maybe throwing to Janis and Davis screwed with Aaron's timing but I don't think Atlantas D did much to slow him down.
Its been stated enough already. If GB is healthier on offense I think they handle Atlanta fairly easily. Given the injuries I see a similar game to week seven. Aaron just needs to have a shot late in the 4th.
Man, I miss T.J.'s! Had a LOT of fun there.
I'm not sure if too many of the old timers are still around, though. The last time we went I wasn't recognizing a lot of people. But that's approaching 20 years ago...
Unfortunately, I just don't have a good feeling about this game, like I did Dallas. Believe me, I hope I'm wrong. No doubt the Packers will score(assuming the injured WR's play), but I just don't see this defense stopping ATL much. A banged up Burnett(if he even plays) doesn't help at all. Prove me wrong Pack!!!

I don't think Atlanta will let Aaron run as much as he was able to then. My hope is that the run game allows him to work his magic but I don't trust Janis! and Davis and maybe Aaron wont either. The O-line will have its hands full. I don't expect to see Nelson and Adams (at least the healthy versions). I agree, its up to Cook and Cobb to play well.

They should have lost that game by 2 or 3 TDs looking at the inactive list.
Janis, Davis, and Allison each had 4 targets, and each had a TD grab.
AR and Rip were the leading rushers.
I expect Allison and either Nelson or Adams to play. The key though, I believe, is getting either Burnett or Rollins active. Those 5 were listed as Questionable.

What it comes down to is that AR is the X factor. As evidenced by the last Falcon game, as long as we have AR we will have an opportunity. Right now he's dominating and won't let a lack of personnel stop him. It took a handful of miracles in 2014 for the Seahawks to beat him in the NFCC, Falcons won't get those same breaks.
Those non-miraculous mother fukkers in Atlanta are about to get burned.

MM said that if it was the regular season they would not play. That tells me that they will not be 100%.
Not good. But if anybody could pull it off it would be Aaron and even he has been sick. If we win it would be a game for the ages.
I am excited and nervous.

Regular ol' disappointment. Utter disappointment, sports-wise, is being a fan of a sh!t franchise like the Lions or Browns.
I just think it's damn hard to win the big one, and the success of this team over the last couple of decades is utterly phenomenal. We're truly fortunate, even if AR doesn't get his 2nd championship.
