Agreed.  IMHO going for it on the goal line was the right call - punch that in and the game is all but over.  IIRC, there was a hole big enough to drive a truck through if Green hadn't simply tripped over Wahle's leg.

To not go for it at the end of the game, with everyone on Philly's D sucking wind so badly that you thought at least one of them was about to Blair Kiel over, was mind-boggling.  Not to mention, since Bidwell was the king of the touchback you knew GB would only gain 15 yards or so of field position even before said obligatory touchback.

Ack.  I need to get away from reliving that nightmare.  I had a bunch of friends over at my place to watch it, and I was absolutely catatonic when that winning FG sailed through the uprights.

Tripping on Wahle.

Not going for it.

Freddie effing Mitchell.

Favre insanely stupid INT that in the large wing of his "Dumb playoff INTs" might be the worst of them all.

So much stupidity in one game.

And, for me at least, it doesn't come close to comparing with the Rice fumble playoff game in 98.   Hands down the absolute worst, most painful loss I ever witnessed.

Sorry, but nothing, and I mean nothing, will ever top that debacle in San Diego in early 1998.  Nothing.  The only thing the 4th and 26 game has going for it was at least that was only the second worst choke job during the previous 6 years.

Great thread.  I'm gonna go start my car in the garage and hang out for a few hours.

XXXII was by far the worst. The Packers were the superior team in every phase of the game. Overconfidence, poor preparation, bad playcalling, and Gabe Wilkins/Darius Holland cost them that game. However, it was one of those rare games where the problem can be boiled down to one soundbite, this one coming from Eugene Roboinson: "This is not better than us, they're not even good!" That quote is always the first thing I think about whenever that game comes up.

Yeah, that SB hurt bad, but if a team is consistently running roughshod, maybe the Packers weren't as good as advertised.  Davis was unstoppable and he even sat out some with the migraine.

One of the games that really hurt me was the 1995 NFC Championship.  Not a choke job, but still.  I think Gilbert Brown was injured.  One of the Cowboys o-line leg-whipped Jurkovic, taking him out (so there goes two starting interior d linemen).  And there's Emmitt Smith gashing the Packers the 4th quarter.

I also remember the BLATANT pick on the first down pass to Deion Sanders.

I was so &*^%'ing pi$$ed over that one.

Guard-tackle transition. About a month before the draft, Rams general manager Les Snead and I talked about the Ravens’ decision in 1996 to draft future left tackle Jonathan Ogden and play him at left guard as a rookie.

Snead’s in the same position now playing Greg Robinson at left guard next to left tackle Jake Long. “(The Ravens) made a long-term decision and they made it work short term,” Snead said. “At the end of the day, that may have been something that helped Jonathan because you get to go in and get your feet wet at maybe a less vulnerable position, and also in going from tackle to guard and you have to think quicker, so that can make moving to tackle smoother transition.”

The Ravens are one of the better run teams in the NFL and they did the same thing as the Packers did - drafting an LT and starting him out at guard. I know many here loathe the practice, but GB isn't alone in trying that strategic plan to develop young OTs

For me it isn't the theory, it's the execution.  That's a two fold issue.  Unfortunately, the high draft picks on the Oline have been injury causalities so you're left with scrappy mid to lower tier guys being coached up by Flounder.

makes sense and I like the switch from Paulie Walnuts to Flounder; seems a better fit. Also noted some positive comments on Sherrods' activity during OTAs- might be a real battle at LT this year. Looking forward to the 1/2 line drills during TC

Sorry.  As great as that was, this is the greatest pass I've ever seen by a GBP QB:

3rd and long.  Team is leaking oil.  Pitt is ready to overtake the game and run away with it.  You know the rest.  The stakes don't get bigger than this throw, and it had to be millimeter-perfect.  And it was.

You don't hear it much anymore, but if any idiot ever tries to trot out the 'AR isn't clutch' meme, just show them that play.

Big night for moronic memes here.

First off before Ted would trade a tackle I would think the Packers would need to get through train camp with all 4 healthy and playing well. Then consider that Bulaga and Sherrod will be free agents next year. Barclay will be some kind of restricted free agent. Again all 4 have to healthy and playing really well. What would it take for Ted to trade one of them?

With as hot as the market is for tackles if they left through free agency I think the comp pick for each would be a 3 or at worst a 4th.

Personally I think Ted would not make any reasonable trade, but if was able to really fleece someone.

Ya the impact of that throw was beyond specIal, but the throw Satan posted,  that is a throw that only one guy can make in this league.   Rolling to his left, gunning that ball on a rope, on the money.  Ridiculous!
