Just curious, but did Jerry Rice wear a brace or wrap on his knee when he returned?

BTW....didn't he  "miraculously" recover from major surgery within 6 or 7 months or something, too?

yeah, no HGH or PEDs back then, huh?

I'll never forget Warren Sapp grabbing Rice's face mask on a reverse and not letting go. Rice never had a chance. Sapp is such a prick. That was opening day 1997. Rice came back 14 weeks later. Caught a TD. landed on his kneecap and broke it I believe. And that was that for 1997. I think that might have been it for Rice in SF.

Rice trained like a mother****er. 6 days a week. If anyone would have been able to come back from an ACL tear same year it would have been him. Not saying he wasn't using something to help recover. But he's a guy I wouldn't categorize as a suspect. He put in way too much work on his own.

And **** Sapp. Can't say that enough times.

They have a hell of a lot of depth at C.  Although it sure seems like Linsley is strictly a center.   I love watching Tretter get up field on a regular basis.

Do you think his skill set is suited for guard?   When he gets healthy I'd like to see him get some snaps there.

Karma has been rather with Sapp. I'm sure Rice and Chad Clifton have some pretty good smirks on their faces when it comes to reading Sapp's latest arrest, bankruptcy filing, or ya know gettin' eaten by a shark.

Former practice-squad offensive lineman Matt Rotheram and long-snapper Jesse Schmitt both have been waived injured by the Packers. It means they've been released with injury settlements. They have a couple of open roster spots but may not add anyone because the cut to 75 is a week from tomorrow.

Linsley strikes me as a G if needed but not a T. I could see Tretter taking some snaps at T in an emergency situation. He's more athletic. If all goes right we'll never see either taking live snaps at T though.

Good call, Chilli.  I remember watching that game and rooting for the Buc's (can't stand the Niner's)...but never liked Sapp's play.  Also, in that same game, didn't Young have to go out with another concussion?

Skill position players don't wear braces because they, by definition, restrict certain movements.  They need every ounce of speed and agility they can get to beat the other guy that is at basically the same level as they are.

I think it is a real conversation.  If there were a surgery that made you heal faster, or a surgery that made you a better athlete, that would be allowed.  Why not have HGH closely monitored by a team physician to expedite healing?  Cause America likes knives more than needles?

Make weed legal as well. It's time. I could think of far worse substances including cigarettes and alcohol (both legal) with worse consequences.

A player smokin' up at his house while playing video games. Oh the horror.

ESPN:

How quickly can Jordy Nelson acclimate himself after missing nearly a year? "He's such an experienced person that one rep in he's going to be back on his feet," Packers WR coach Luke Getsy said. "I think we're on the right path. We're excited that he's going to get to do a little more each day. As long as he's progressing, I think we're on the path."

Yes, and then he commenced to destroy the knee on his first game back.

You realize that the reason guys take PED's is to work harder and longer, right? Recovery time is so much shorter and more complete that the guys can abuse their bodies with extra work. It is in the recovery that muscles are built.

Jerry Rice was a heavy user of PEDs, IMO. No doubt in my mind.

Unfortunately for him, PED's don't heal bone, and his knee cap was not fully recovered.

Agreed! Linsley lacks the length to play tackle.

Just allow HGH and be done with it.  If it helps the body heal when football does so much damage to the body, why ban it?  Besides, it must be natural.  It says "human" right in the name.

Legalize that **** and they'd all start on DGH...Donkey Growth Hormone.

IMO JC is a little light in the britches to excel at guard. Look at him isolated some time. Rather svelte for an OL.

I was referring to Linsley.  As far as I know,me has only taken snaps at C.

JC has gotten snaps at every position.  He can play tackle in a serious pinch, but like you said, think he lacks the strength for guard.   IMO if JC is the starting C and Linsley isn't IR'd they should give him snaps at Guard to see if he could be first sub there.

Once Linsley gets healthy, which hopefully is sooner rather than later, and assuming Tretter keeps the center job, can Linsley backup all line positions; center, guard and tackle?

No way.  Guard maybe but I just don't think it's in his wheelhouse.  He's pretty much a pure center.  Tackle, no way.  He isn't Flanigan.

A rookie WR like that in this offense will have numerous opportunities to make plays, especially with guys like Nelson, Cobb, Monty & Cook on the field.

Oh, BTW....a rejuvenated Lacy too. Good luck if you're a DC facing the Packers offense.

500 points / 16 games = 31.25 points per game

Barring injury, that's what I'm expecting.
