And yes I have been there.
Anyone read Bad Bob McGinn this morning? He summed it up pretty well. Laid it on MM and Capers. Pointed out that Rogers was mediocre as well. Bob described the Packers as "stale", "in repose", "fell apart like a cheap suit", "lacked inspiration and fresh ideas", failed", "outcoached and outplayed", dulling sameness" and "aimless".
Everything he said in his article was true about this team so far. And about MM.
But I disagree with the premise that this team is not as good as we expected at least talent-wise. The talent is there. It is just not getting used correctly.
It is way too early to "call out the dogs". Last season I posted a thread about MM losing his hold on the team, mainly due to longevity. MM has been there 9 seasons and history has shown that almost every coach wears out his time long before then. In MM's case he has had TOG and Rogers as his starting QBs. So in case, his longevity may be skewed.
Going back to last season's ugly losing streak (w/o Rogers) and now witnessing the poor start to this season...especially when MM told us they were going to push towards a quick start.
So I will again make the point, that we may be seeing the beginning of the end for the Mike McCarthy Era in GB?
MM is nothing if not an innovator. While other teams are playing with last yearās position-du-jour with OWās like Percy Harvin and Brandin Cooks, MM is pioneering the *UC position with Randall Cobb.
Brilliant!
*Underwhelming Cog.
I didn't like AR's press conference. The mentioned time and again how the running game didn't do its job. How the Lions were playing 2 high safety, which is why they ran it so much, IE the Lions were giving the Packers a defensive look that meant running was the better option.
The problem I have with this is if your running game is going nowhere against their line, and you know that even with 2 high safety they're still playing with a beat up secondary, you have to air it out against that.
It's the same braindead decision that was made to not throw to Richard Sherman's side of the field against Seattle. They're playing the "percentage game" and not playing to their strengths. They're letting the other team totally dictate the offense.
I don't know why they're playing scared like this but dominant teams play the game they're good at and burn you regardless. We simply are not doing any of that. MM and AR need to both pull their head out of their asses and just play football.
They HAD the ability to run the ball. MM chose to be an idiot and run it the wrong way.
They had Lacy running a lot of left and right, pitches 4 yards deep, and virtually no running north and south...you know, his strength.
They stopped feeding it to Starks which is fuc*ing mind boggling because he was so effective.
They ran NO screens.
They did zero plays with Cobb in the backfield or even doing a reverse just to mix something up.
If Im Aaron Rodgers, I'd be pissed as well.
The Lions have a great squad--now they have a good coach--they'll be trouble
You have to be joking. Did you see the Lions play in week #2 vs. the Panthers?
Something is up at 1265. There is something dramatically wrong because the talent level on this team is 100x better than they are playing. Maybe they don't care anymore? I don't know.
Henry may be right. McCarthy has taken on more this season (defense) to the detriment of his offensive genius title.
There are three types of people in the world.
Those that make things happen.
Those that watch things happen.
And those that say, "What happened?"
McCarthy was the 3rd type yesterday.
Proactive > Reactive
Food for thought:
GB is 3rd in the NFL with the most drops.
Rodgers set a career record for him with 6 under thrown passes against the Jets per PFF. He had never thrown that many going all the back to 2008.
He followed that up with 5 yesterday.
Yeah, you may be right about something amiss in Green Bay.
They have changed things up this year. Didn't McCarthy mention something about their day off not being Saturday, but Friday now? That could be something.
Rodgers also talked about how he changed his workout routine this summer. Maybe he spent more time working out and doing yoga and less time working on his mechanics and accuracy?
Just a couple differences with this team and previous teams.
Maybe AR needs to spend more time in the gym, rather than in front of the camera?
Yeah, you may be right about something amiss in Green Bay.
Looks like it could be a cretain QB's arm.......lots of under throws for a rocket armed laser thrower.
I'm not ready to get too worked up about this team yet. They started 1-2 last year with sh*tty losses to SF and CIN. They still made the playoffs despite losing #12 for nearly half the season and #52 missing a ton of time too. Lot of football yet to be played; plenty of time for adjustments.
Its still early, I cant help but remember the Houston Texan game(I was there at that game) and the Packers were 2-3. And the Texans were 5-0. Rodgers and company, destroyed the Texans at there home, then went on a 9-2 run. They still can put together.
He threw a some darts though vs Seattle and New York. Not enough sadly.
The Packers don't need Jones or Finley or Jennings. Jones was good most of the time. Finley dropped more crucial catches than he caught. And Jennings was underachieving because he was pouting too much.
They just need the coaching staff to utilize their personnel better. That means better play-calling, more imagination and better execution.
yeah, um, remember that time when like bj ravi like caught the ball and like ran it in the um end zone and like won the game and it was all so cool?
but seriously, that seems so long ago. this ain't that team. Though it seems a bit foil hatted, there are some strange coincidences with the drop off in play from AR and RC since their injuries last year. And now Eddie's no longer Money running scared.
The team has started slow and come back with a vengeance before. But IIRC, those teams had been at least showing they were capable of that, even through the losses. This team so far, nnnnnnnnnn.
Just announced by Lions...Tulloch to IR with ACL tear.

Finley dropped more than his share of passes, but he was an athletic TE in mold of Gates or Gonzalez. He was a matchup nightmare for the opposing DC. He never progressed beyond that Arizona playoff game when he was literally could not be covered and looked like a future perennial Pro Bowler, but the Packers now have no one that can scare people running up the seam. Maybe Bostick can grow into that role?
If he ever gets on the field.
This team is a dumpster fire right now. I don't see anything changing that anytime soon.
Bostick played special teams yesterday; why he didn't line up at TE is a mystery. Can Janis play TE?
Yeah, you may be right about something amiss in Green Bay.

It will be interesting to read some more takes on the game, but is AR getting gun shy about his protection and developed some jitters where he doesn't step into his throws like he should?
He made sure he didn't lose the game yesterday by throwing a pick 6, but with this current team he has to quit playing not to lose the game because they aren't good enough for him to be a game manager type. In a game like yesterday, TOG would have forced a few throws into coverage and either given up some pick 6s or gotten lucky. Maybe against supposedly inferior DBs you need to force a few throws.

I wish the defense had played a little better in the second half, but they only gave up 10 points and forced three turnovers. Pretty silly trying to pin this one on Dom and the defense.
When you watch the rest of the games, as many of us on here with Sunday ticket do, you see the brilliance of other teams playcalling and play design. Witness the way the Hawks use Percy Harvin as a misdirection decoy, flying past the qb at the snap on the off chance that he may get a reverse, then throwing a great screen the other way to Marshawn who makes a big play out of it. Why couldn't Cobb be the decoy and Eddie catch a screen in open space? You see wonderful bubble screens off bunch sets, regular screens and numerous other eye popping play designs. MM has none of that. The Pack simply line up in their completely predictable sets and run right into the teeth of the defense which isn't fooled at all. Arod scrambles back into traffic instead of out and away from it. MM should get a play caller and fast.
If not for a Jets 2nd half implosion the Packers would/should/could be 0-3.
That said, win the next two (@CHI, vs MIN) and the season looks a lot better.
This game against the Bears is going to tell a lot about our team this year.
Think Luke was tweeting some words he may have heard from Aaron?
If Rodgers was a rookie QB or even just a young QB, he might have the right to be frustrated about the coach's gameplan. Rodgers is a franchise QB with 9 years experience and an NFL MVP under his belt though, he has as much input into the gameplan as the OC. If he has brilliant ideas that he's sharing with his brothers, then he needs to push for those ideas in meetings during the week. No sympathy for a franchise QB when it comes to the gameplan.

I'm not sure about the Chicago game, but the Bears will be coming off a short week. However, I don't have a lot of confidence in our ability to stop Matt Forte running between the tackles.
If they can't beat Minnesota in Lambeau in two weeks with all that's happened in Minnesota the last two weeks, they really are done for the year. They should be no worse than 2-3 after that game. Kick away from Patterson and stay home on the end arounds. Adrian Peterson might have gone for 250 against them, but he's not there. No excuses for that game.

Yes, the defense played decent most of the game. But when they needed to make a big stop in the 4th quarter they were unable to do so. Detroit was 11 for 18 on third down conversions. Capers was at fault as well as MM.
Seriously??
Blaming the defense late in the 4th Q after they just played for 40 minutes? LOL.....ok

Sorry, but the offense needed to carry its weight and it failed completely and miserably for all four quarters. Trying to give any real or significant responsibly to Dom and the defense for the loss is a real reach, IMO.
the defense was on the field a lot, because they kept giving Detroit first downs all second half. Not flashy "deep down the middle" drives, just long, sustained drives with lots of third down conversions. Defense couldn't get off the field like the O couldn't stay on. Not laying it all on the D (65/35), but coming out of halftime, Detroit had the defense completely figured out.
Agreed. This D gets enough criticism, well warranted too, but they do not deserve blame for yesterday's bumble****. They were clearly gassed by the 4th. They created 3 turnovers and the offense did nothing with it, in fact they turned one of them into -5 points(safety, then had to punt which put Detroit around midfield to start their next drive)
The Lion defense outscored the Packer offense. Tells you just about all you need to know.

For me the biggest surprise is the running game. They really have regressed from what they were most of last year. I think going into 2014, many (including myself) thought the running game might be strong enough that teams would worry about that equally as much as Rodgers. Maybe these first 3 games were the exception as they have faced some of the better defensive fronts out there, and it will pick up in games upcoming.
The passing game certainly could get better as some of the young receivers learn the game. That said, I think 2011 is far far in the rearview mirror at this point. Just think in 2011, Cobb, Jones, Driver, and Finley were secondary options in the passing game and Jennings and Nelson were the primary. That type of depth was almost a once in a lifetime type deal. Right now, only Nelson seems to be playing at that 2011 level. Cobb still might get back to old self, but right now just doesn't look like the same guy he was his first three years.
A guy like Davante Adams will need to step it up big time. He showed some flashes versus the Jets, but didn't do much vs. the Lions. He's going to need to emerge to take some of the pressure off Nelson and Cobb. Boykin looks like a guy that either is in a slump due to a lack of confidence, or he's been figured out by other teams and has basically been a non-factor after a decent seasons last year.
My expectation bar for the defense going into yesterdays game was pretty much ground floor. I do feel they played better.
But I will add this, I think that after the 8th swing pass to Bush they said "this is too easy, let's try some other **** for a while and if needed we can circle back to this later".
I do believe they could have run that play 45 times yesterday.
