How do you know that? What? The guy is starting his 3rd season out of a small school. He is a tremendous athlete, and if the light goes on with regards to consistency, GOOD!

Janis has been pretty buried on our rosters the past two years. Maybe that changes now. Maybe he puts it together. It would help if Rodgers was open to that notion, rather than closed. I think he will be open to working with Janis to improve his game.

Give the guy a break Chil!

You're right! Only year 2. He has improved quite a bit 1-2. No? I guess I just wonder why are you so down on the guy?

Of course he needs to produce better as a WR. No question. I believe he can. If he does not, he won't stay on the roster. My point was it would be best for Rodgers to work with him as opposed to showing no confidence.

If he can still bring it, he'd still be in the league.  These pipe dreams of Moss circa '05 and Janis as the next Wes Welker are a bit overboard.  It sux that Jordy got injured, but uncle Ted and MM have a plan.  We'll be all right and Jordy might come back stronger.

It's a little later and I've tied one on, but we should wait until tomorrow before we start talking FA. There is a possibility this is not a full year and he start on IR eligible to return. We can win a lot of games, most games, without Jordy. The packers are still contenders, and boast a better Wr roster still,  than many of the legit contenders in the NFC. The packers in recent history, haven't flinched or lost a beat when their NO1 receiver goes down. Arod is still gonna go 4000, 33/10 or less picks. He's that good.
Jordy is a loss, he's our go to, he rivals Bryant, Julio, Johnson, and Odell. Also, Randall Cobb. He's also, that good.
This team perseveres injuries, beside 12, were still the most solid offense in the league in my opinion. OLine health and depth are the only wild cards

Let's hope for the best for Nelson.  If it turns out to be a season ender, that would be the 3rd straight year the Packers lost a key starter for the year before the season started (Bulaga 2013, Raji 2014).

The one thing you can say for 2014 was that after they lost Raji and to a lesser extent Tretter, they really had a pretty healthy season as a team.  Really the biggest injury problem they had last year was with #12 having all kinds of foot/leg issues, but at least he was available to play.

My biggest fear after the Pack did not take advantage of their opportunities in 2014 was that the pretty good injury luck they had last year would not carry over to 2015.  Losing Nelson now would not be the end of the world even as great as he is, but there can't be too many more key injuries after this one if indeed this turns into a season ender.

If this is a season ender for Jordy its a hugh loss no matter what. Its hard to imagine all the remaining WR's on this team all staying healthy through the rest of the season without missing some amount of playing time somewhere. Thats when things can start to really change about the way this offense can perform. Since the Pack has all sorts of weapons I feel we will be fine with what we have as of now, next man up. But lose another WR like Cobb or Adams even R.Rodgers for extended time and we can be in some trouble.

I haven't seen enough of Janis to offer an opinion, but from what I read, he sounds somewhat like James Jones. Talented, but inconsistent, and perceived as having the "dropsies".

If memory is still serving, I think the trust/distrust between ARod and Jones is similar to Janis as well.

Whether he can step up or not remains to be seen, but I want to see him try. If that means drills pre- and post practice, more film study, or anything else we can imagine, that's what I want to see him doing.

So true Timmy. Arod will make any receiver look good if that said receiver can be consistent about catching the ball. Arod has developed absolute trust in the top 3 WR's on this team which takes time to do. 1/3 of that could be out for the year which would hurt. You could see the look on Aarons face during the post game press conference, like he was living a nightmare seeing what happened to Jordy wondering who will fill those shoes ? I wish Janis, White, Abbracadabra, whoever it may be can step it up even if Jordy does return at some point this season.

Heard this tonight and thought of GB backup receivers. But mostly Janis.

Let's just hope that we are not singing "Badlands" at the end of the season!

Yes, the starters do need preseason.  4 games?  probably not but you can't trot out there opening day straight out of camp.  Everybody needs reps vs someone other than their teammates.  Everybody needs full contact to get their bodies into hitting shape.  The limited full contact practices per the cba almost necessitates preseason games.  And as much as people are moaning about the turf, Jordy made a pretty benign move when his knee folded.  If that's all it takes, it probably was going to happen at some point soon anyway.  Some guys walk around with ticking time bombs for knees.  Was it on the same side he had the procedure done on this offseason?  Opposite?

There are 3 different grades of ACL sprains, and they all make the same kind of pop sound. Stretch, partial tear (both take 2-8 weeks to recover) and the bad one that takes 6 most to a year to recover.

If he didn't have a lot of pain, and was reacting more to a pop noise, we might be in business. He seemed to walk to the locker room without pain or limitation, which is also a good sign.

Maybe he's not done.

Agreed, this is more likely than not with regards to Nelson's injury severity.

Something I find interesting though is the initial analysis by Dr. Chao yesterday was that it wasn't an ACL tear and then he changed his opinion. First video/angle he didn't see an ACL tear, then with a second video/angle he says that it is the ACL. He has a very high accuracy rate of diagnosing injuries from Vines and other clips, but he isn't 100%.

The Preseason football debate rages on. I for one think that it is necessary- guys get jobs for this. Sure, your starters may not need it, but you start the season with 80+ guys, and real game action is where you get your best evaluations. They do not predict success, but the show the coaches what they can do in live reps against guys trying win jobs. The 2 most notable guys from preseason last year- Janis and Elliot- won ions with their practices and preseason performances. Jered Boykin a couple years ago impressed the Packers enough out of Jags camp to earn a shot in Packer camp. Pen ell also won a roster spot that way. Those are just recent examples.

The live reps are essential IMO. How many games? Sure, pare them down to 3 or even 2. But up to 1/3rd of the rosters in the NFL need these games to win jobs. You cannot take that away from them or the coaches who want to see the live gave condition reps. Injuries are part of the game. It sucks, but that's why Thompson makes the big bucks- a deep enough roster to win in spite of injuries.

It is pretty remarkable, Music City, how Thompson stays true in picking his players to the best available on his board. We didn't need Adams last year, but he took him high with an R2. Then this year Montgomery with the R3. I think there are few teams in this NFL who could absorb the loss of a #1 WR as well as we might be able to, without adding another player.

Both Adams and Montgomery could figure prominently in our success this season, more than any of us could have imagined.
