This made me think that field condition may have a bigger impact on injuries than TC practices and preseason games.

While I don't think that every field can meet the same 'standard', surely there are some minimums that can be specified. If it takes a lawsuit to bring about change, so be it. And if the NFLPA was worth 2 chits, they would be taking the lead for seeking change. Their members have much more to lose than the league does.

I'm sure the NFL would have no problem financing new fields, and that's where they could be proactive. It should open another avenue for the league to maintain some 'control' over these fields, forcing certain protections from damage when other events are held.

Time for Lacy to take the step to the next level. 1100 yard seasons are nice, but it's time for a 1500+ type of season. This offense has averaged over 2000 yards rushing over the last couple years (huge improvement from where they were in 2010-2012, where they finished with ~1600 rushing yards every year), they have the capability to knock that up to the neighborhood of 2500 yards.

I don't think we'll see a big jump in Lacy's rushing numbers but he could make a significant jump in total yards.  He is becoming a well rounded 3 down back.  We saw a glimpse of his new weapons yesterday on the pass to him in the flat that got them a first down.  Ahman Green was deadly on plays like that and we could see Lacy bringing the same effectiveness.  He'll just be using his mass and momentum instead of speed.

Meanwhile, in 2013 when Rodgers was out, Jordy had 32 catches for 437 yards and 1 TD in 7 games.  When Rodgers returned for the Bears game Jordy had 161 yards on 10 catches.

He will be missed, especially when it comes to the play action bombs and big 3rd down plays, but I don't think this will prevent them from winning the division or even a Super Bowl.

Excellent post GBP.

I think back to Sterling Sharpe. Closest player we've had to him since he retired is Devante Adams. If he can take over the #1 anything close to that we will be cooking with grease.

Lacy had 1138 yards during the regular season rushing and 427 yards receiving for a total of 1565 yards.  In fact he set a Packer record in 2014 for consecutive games of 100+ yard from scrimmage with 8.  And 4.6 yds/carry.  To get more yards he will need more carries and that is a function of how the offense operates.  What more do you want?

What are Abbrederis' chances of making the 53? And if they're as slim as I think they are, do they keep 5 or 6 WR?

Also, if James Jones is cut by the Giants does TT sign him?

Just some things to ponder.

Also, this bull**** about how some 7th rounder from Saginaw Valley State should be able to come into the NFL and blow people away needs to stop.

Very good Maynard.

Indeed, the hip was an issue:

When tackle Bryan Bulaga suffered a hip injury, a sports orthopedic surgeon told us it was possible there could be a knee or ankle injury to follow. She said saw it all the time with skiers. Sure enough Bulaga next went down with a torn ACL the very next training camp. Jordy Nelson had hip surgery in the offseason. Worst fears came true for #87 today vs Steelers.

How many of you had an irregular heartbeat when Rodgers got blindsided in the endzone on that safety on Sunday?

This sh*t has got to stop.

Good on AR for speaking up and saying they should "at least cut it (the preseason) in half."   Kind of a jab at MM there too, but the truth is coaches just don't have the restraint to do it themselves, and you can't really blame them because the good ones strive for perfection and want to keep up with the Jones'.  It's got to come from above.

I'll take cutting it to 2 preseason games.  It's a start.  And I'll take some false start penalties in the first 2 games over losing a guy like Nelson for the season in a heartbeat.

Next man up.  I just doodled one scenario to make up Jordy's 90+ catches (albeit at lower YAC and YPC)

Cobb         +10 from last year

Adams      +30 from last year

Janis         +20 from last year

Montgomery  20 catches

Lacy         +20 catches from last year

Rodgers    +20 catches from last year

Quarless   = to last year

They are going to need to somehow continue to stretch the field to free up Cobb.  I don't doubt Adams will step up, but they really need Janis and Montgomery to each make 1 or two plays every game.

I think Cobb has as much end speed as Jordy.  My concern with Cobb is that he is such a tough runner - it's all out.  That's why he's so damn good.  However, that style of running has some risk with his size.

If an injury was going to happen to a starter, I guess I'm glad it happened to someone in the the WR corps. That's where we have the most depth. And I firmly believe that great quarterbacks make great receiversβ€”someone is going to step up because that's what Rodgers does. He makes great receivers. I don't know if it will be Cobb or Adams or someone else, but Rodgers will find him. Remember when Robert Brooks went down back in the 90s? That was the start of Antonio Freeman's reign. Boyd Dowler went down early in the first SB and Starr found Max McGee and made him a Super Bowl legend. Rodgers will do the same.

But as Tschmack said, Rodgers is the only player we can't afford to lose.

Very good points pduck.I recall hearing that after Sharpe went out in 1994 and was done the Packers will have trouble on offense without him. In 1995 Robert Brooks took over as the #1 and was awesome. The passing game was even better. In 1996 Brooks went out and Freeman emerged. I can see a scenario like this happening this year. Adams is expected to improve even more now which will be absolutely necessary without Jordy. Assuming TT doesn't bring in a veteran WR, Montgomery, maybe Janis could be much like the Brooks or Freeman or Adams of this year.

I think this is going to be a coming out year for Adams.  I was already worried that there weren't going to be enough balls to go around with Nelson in the lineup, but now is Adams' time to shine.

I know there's lots of talk about Janis but that's because he's a track star.  People compare him to Jordy but Jordy was not a deep ball threat burner out of college.

Personally I think Ty has the better body type and will out perform, especially since he has special team ability.  And I think Dick Rod is going to have a very good year.

Bigger key key is going to be Dick Rodgers. GB needs a TE to take a little heat off the outside guys.

Big play Jeff Janis with 6 catches 583 yards and 6 TDs.

My initial thought when it was presumed he hurt himself coming down from the catch was that it was just a total freak/fluke occurrence that could have happened at any time. Now that we know it wasn't even that knee and likely occurred when he turned up field, it's looking more and more likely that the surface at Heinz played a role.

A league that will spend millions debating the air pressure of a football to the tenth of a pound won't put in any sort standards in regards to the playing surface? To my knowledge, the only requirement in place is that all teams show the NFL logo somewhere on the field.
