And there are fans who don't like Thompson?

Damn ewe TT!

Philly & 1 other team (forget who....Miami?) tried to offer Eliot a position but Uncle Ted promoted him so he wouldn't go away.

I'm good with that

And all this time I thought he preferred to cogitate.  Who knew?

2 guys still available at free agency that I'd consider considering (if I was TT):

Nick Fairley: He had some attitude issues early in his career and more recently has had injury issues.  Last year, he was very productive in St Louis as a part time player (about 400-500 snaps).  I think the red flags are preventing him from getting big money, long-term deal but if he can be had for $3-4m per year for 1-2 years and little to no guaranteed money, I'd love to see him in the DL rotation.  He's never played in a 3-4 though, so maybe that's an issue.  But he can be very disruptive in limited snaps.  FWIW, Fairley hasn't had any run-ins with the law since 2012.....

Brandon Boykin: Was one of the best slot CBs in football in Philly but he didn't fit Chip Kelly's system/personality/whatever, so was traded to Pittsburgh in the middle of training camp.  Hard for a defender to come in that late and fit right in, so he didn't play much early in the season.  Love our CB depth with Shields, Randall and Rollins but Goodwin and Gunter are pretty raw still and with Hayward gone, I think we need a legit slot CB (I have no faith in Hyde) and I think Boykin would be cheap.  You can never have too many solid DBs......

Thoughts?

Welp...

Apparently, the visit at least went well...

Cook, who was released by the Rams before free agency began, has had a month to find a team. The fact he hasn't found one means that he is holding out for more money than teams are offering or teams are just no longer interested.

McCarthy made it seem like the Packers still had interest.

"Spent a lot of time with Jared Cook," McCarthy said. "Fine young man. I was impressed with him. We'll see what happens. It's in the business phase of it. That's about where it stands."

Asked if there was definite interest, McCarthy said that was up to Thompson.

"I couldn't even tell you," he said. "I haven't even asked for an update."

Thompson wouldn't comment on Cook when asked about him Monday.

McCarthy did say that he hoped that the Packers could re-sign free agent outside linebacker Mike Neal.

Disagree.

It's already rolled once, so the odds are now back to 1/36.  Prior to the first snake eyes, the odds of doing it twice are 1/36 x 1/36 or 1/1296.

You asked the odds of doing it 2x in a row.

He might know something about the position...

Somebody please give packers db coach Joe Whitt some love.
Incredible coach and friend. Reading this article I know exactly why that position is playing so well.. Way to get the best out of your guys Joe....

Charles must have been a bitch to coach. His football IQ was a generational thing. He was almost uncoachable given his understanding of how to disrupt an offense.

So this isn't hollow praise.

Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, but MM confirmed Datone will be making the full-time move to Elephant End.

Here's a good blog post from just a few days ago on why Datone might be in the mix at OLB, and why that might be a good thing. TLDR: He matched Neal's production in half the snaps at the position.

Datone will be a wonderful OLB.  Ted should sign him up to a 10-year deal right now.  Will be awesome to see Clay back playing OLB now that Carl Bradford is fully developed and ready to take that starting ILB spot.

I give you credit joe, being the "draft guru" didn't get you much love on this site, so you are trying something new.

Maybe some more college basketball commentary?

Rule change

@TomSilverstein: Interesting NFL bylaw change. You can now designate IR-designated to return retroactively. So any one IR person can come back after 6 weeks.

@WesHod: This is big. IR Designated to return no longer initial designation. So you can pull a guy off IR after 6 weeks now (then 2 weeks practice).

Peppers, Neal, Perry and now Jones........how many elephant ends can be on the field at once??  The elephant end didn't even exist until 2014 and now we have 4 of them.  Why can't we just draft and develop normal 3-4 OLBs and DEs??

The first sip of Punch tasted pretty good, but alas...there's the floating turd I was worried about.

When you consider starting outside linebacker Mike Neal only had 36 tackles and four sacks in over 800 snaps, Jones doesn’t look so bad.

I think the PROBABILITY would be:   1:1296     (which would be cool if it was actually 1:1265 but I digress)

I think the ODDs would be:   1:1295 for  or  1295:1 against rolling "snake-eyes" twice in a row

I thought KGB used to play the Elephant End in GB? Man I hadn't thought about KGB in a while, great Packer and a really good pass rusher! I never understood that massive padded collar thing he would wear though, it was like his neck was in traction.
