Since Thompson/Packers denied the requests for interview it seems obvious the front office guys have clauses in their contracts about going to competitors where they need the approval. So, McGinn's report is really a non-story. From the JSO article none of the group mentioned (Wolf, Gutekunst or Highsmith) have ever publicly complained about the contract they signed. Each them will move up or to another team when they are ready. When they are ready will be as much their decision as it will be their managers. Seems like the Packers have a proven process for developing their front office / personnel guys.

The question, as McGinn brought up in the article also, is are they getting promoted, or "promotions". Sure, some extra cash and even a shiny, new title are nice, but if your goal is to be "the guy" in an organization, that can sometimes ring a little hollow when you're blocked from that opportunity. Being appreciated in a solid environment only goes so far for so long. Dorsey, Schneider and McKenzie were maybe overdue for their shots and it does make one wonder if it was to the point where they were going to start making noise if they didn't get their opportunity.

I think Thompson just wants to make sure he's covered for when he loses talent. He drafts a year ahead of potential needs often times on the roster and I think he probably thinks along the same lines with his front office staff. Maybe he wanted to wait to let Dorsey, Schneider, and McKenzie go until he knew for sure he had a viable replacement in the organization. Perhaps he doesn't have that guy yet to replace Wolf, Gutekunst, or Highsmith yet. I'm sure Miami will go through another round of house cleaning in a few years and Highsmith would be on the short list for that job, that's his turf after all.

Based on how long Dorsey (1991 - 2012 w/1999 in SEA), Schneider (1993-1996, 2002-2009) and McKenzie (1994–2011) were with GB, I expect Wolf and Thompson knew exactly what kind of men they were. I don't think petulant would describe any of them.

I'm not saying they are/were. However, at some point even good guys reach their breaking point. After 10 or 15 years I can see even "good soldiers" getting a little irritated if they're continually denied their shot.

You're assuming they all wanted to leave and were denied the chance. Perhaps McKenzie was waiting for the Raiders job to open up. These are smart guys, they have seen many of their peers get power hungry and take the first job that opened up. Dorsey and Schneider waited for teams that had roster talent and talented coaches in place. Neither took over a rebuilding job which seems to be where a lot of GMs struggle.

Welp. There's another reason not to watch FS1. Who in the fu** thought it'd be a good idea to give him that coin?!

Skip Bayless is leaving ESPN. Took a reported $6 MILLION/year deal with FS1. Will you miss him? Follow him? Is he enough to get you to watch FS1? ~mw

I haven't listened to anything Skip Bayless has said in years. I've never watched his show with Stephen A. Smith once.

He's not a journalist, he's like a lot of politicians. Just say a bunch of dumb sh!t and make incendiary comments and hope it gets you noticed. It's worked for him.
