I'd be happy with something in between.

Peppers doesn't need to be an every-down player.  Packers rotate quite a bit, so he doesn't have to be on the field every play.  Saturday got old quick and needed to play every snap....not good.  Woodson was quite a bit younger when the Packers signed him.

Thanks, Lambeau!  Now I don't have to go to church tomorrow.

I think above all I like this signing because it brings in a serious veteran presence on the defense. What worries me is that Peppers is 34, but, hey here's to at least one more productive year!

Saturday was also a fat offensive lineman. Peppers is a physical specimen. I have higher hopes he's got at least one great year left in him.

EDIT: And nothing about his 2013 production indicates a decline. Yes he "only" had 7 sacks, but he's "only" had 7 in previous seasions - he even had just 2.5 in 14 games in 2007. He also doesn't get hurt (knock on wood).

agree.  If Peppers can contribute like the stud he is for AT LEAST one year, then it's a good signing.  I don't think TT  signs him thinking he'll be our starter for the next few years.  Agree with previous post, Peppers does NOT need to be an every down player.  Also, I like the leadership role: it's time to have someone give the defense a kick in the ass now that Greene has left.

As far as his stats go, keep in mind that Chitcago had no other options rushing the QB. BuShea was terrible and the next best option was Cory Wooten who has gotten few snifs in free agency. Peppers was the only real threat there so it makes sense his production would drop. With multiple talented pass rushers in GB I look for him to rebound in a big way.

Uncle Ted just rolled the whole league.  He drops scent that he is looking at every DE FA on the market, sets the bar higher by signing Shields for plenty 2 days before free agency.  As the DE's domino off the market he keeps digging up new scrubs to express interest in.  Waiting until the 2 guys he is looking at to become available (Ware and Peppers) .  Bronks blow there wad.  He scoops up Peppers.

Jeenyous!!  Be afraid NFL.  Be very afraid.

Wooten has gotten only a few sniffs in FA because he's coming off of hip surgery.  Not even close to getting medically cleared.  I think he eventually ends up back with the Bears.

But to your point, the Bears had virtually no pass rush to compliment Peppers.  Kinda like the Packers with Clay of recent years.

But we've heard of him!!! Irresponsible!!!

Not the Peppers of five years ago, and not that contract either. This is the kind of guy many of us have been talking about if he has something left in the tank.

Exactly. It is nice try at improving our D line, admittedly an area that needs an injection. It may ultimately be a failure but it could be a boon! Thanks TT for the effort!

Look at all those career sacks.

He might be great at NT!

Seriously, Have to keep his snaps down to about 25-30 per game.

Is Dom Capers happy? I mean Peppers isn't a rookie

Wasn't Woodson washed up when the Packers signed him?

You'll SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT!!

Woodson was 29 when the Packers signed him. He turned 30 during the 2006 season. He became a HOF player while in Green Bay. I wish he wasn't going to be 38 this year.

Bringing back BJ Raji is like doubling down on 20.

He's ass.. has been ass ever since we drafted him.  Bustin Harrell was more productive because he wasn't wasting a spot on the field.  Raji has been a net negative from the beginning.

Actually, it's just the opposite of doubling down on 20.  The Packers offered Raji a deal at $8 million a year, most likely a multi-year deal.  He didn't take it.  So the Packers eventually offered him half the amount of $$$ for at least half the numbers of years.

Looks like BJ was the one that gambled and lost!

I really like Starks and think he could be a good RB on the right team.  But with Lacey, Harris and Franklin in the fold, I just don't see room for Starks.  They also need a FB, so maybe Starks can add 30 lbs.

Raji was nonexistent last season... but in what world does a guy with his stature play DE?  The guy is a NT all day long and it sounds like he will play there exclusively next season.  I expect he'll perform better in that role.

EDIT: Until of course injuries decimate the defense by week 2 and Raji has another horrible year lining up at OLB.

The 49ers run the best 3-4 defense. Raji is as stout as Dorsey.

The contract is a bargain.

Dorsey makes considerably less than $4M. So what does that make his contract?

I think the Jets and Detroit were briefly been looking at JJ, other then that there is not much reported interest in him. Other then the Steelers no one seems to be interested in him.  The remaining Packers Free Agents seemed to have fallen of the earth. Finley only had a visit with the Hags, nothing happen, that strongly hints no teams wants to risk signing him. Same with Jolly both are looking like medical write offs.

I agree Raji is a NT . who then is to blame for leaving him at end all year long? Seems to me if everyone knows he is a better NT  than end then he should play there.....right?

Additionally, he is still a defensive lineman and if he were a quality player I think he should have done better than 12 tackles regardless of end or NT. I am just not totally buying the "he played out of position" line of reasoning. He played like a slug all season....a contract season nonetheless.

I don't get it with James Jones.  Three years ago he went into FA known for not being able to hang on to the ball.  But he really improved in that area, not to where he's just better.  I'd say he has fantastic hands now.  He may not be an elite receiver, but he's definitely a very solid #3 and maybe a #2 on many teams.  I can't understand why teams seem to pass on him.  I wanted him back three years ago, and I want him back (at the right price) this year, too!  He seems like a humble, quiet leader!  Packer People!

As for Raji having to play DE, he was there by default. Jolly, Pickett and Daniels were better suited to play NT/DT so it only makes sense  that the quicker more athletic Raji would play end, especially when you consider what he was being paid. Do your job, do it as best you can and shut the hell up. Raji didn't do any of those.

I like James Jones. He's a good WR in the right system under the right QB.

What stood out for me last year for him is that when Rodgers went down, he sort of disappeared. Contrast that to Jordy and even Boykin, both those guys continued to produce. Granted not at the level they would have with AR but with pretty pedestrian QB's in Wallace and Tolzien, guys like Jordy still found a way to get open and for those QB's to find them.

Jones IMO really missed Rodgers. Aaron has a way to exploit match ups and play to Jones strengths. And maybe? That's what concerns scouts/GM's who watch film on him. They may worry he's a more a product of MM, this system, and playing with a HOF QB.
